    Abstract: Provided are an anti-icing film using a broadband plasmonic metasurface produced by co-self-assembling anisotropic gold nanorods and cellulose nanocrystal, and a method for manufacturing the same. A method for manufacturing an anti-icing film including: (a) preparing an ink for an anti-icing film including a bonded body of the cellulose nanocrystal and the anisotropic gold nanorods and a binary mixed solution; (b) coating a substrate with the prepared ink; and (c) evaporating the binary mixed solution from the coated ink, and an anti-icing film manufactured therefrom may be provided. In addition, provided is an anti-icing film having anti-icing/deicing effect only with light irradiation of a visible light wavelength, by including a substrate; and a film layer including a metasurface on the substrate, wherein the metasurface includes a composite arranged in a certain direction, in which the anisotropic gold nanorods and the cellulose nanocrystal particles are co-assembled.

    Abstract: A polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) membrane with a gradient pore structure and a method for preparing the same are disclosed. A cross-section of the PTFE membrane has the gradient pore structure, and a first porous outer surface and a second porous outer surface of the PTFE membrane have fibers and nodes with different microstructures. The first porous outer surface has an island-like microstructure formed by a plurality of interconnected relatively-small nodes, and the second porous outer surface has an H-shaped ladder-like microstructure formed by a plurality of interconnected relatively-large nodes. The PTFE membrane produced by this method features low resistance and high flow rate while maintaining thickness and filtration precision. The improvement in filtration efficiency enhances the capture of contaminants. For a given transmembrane pressure drop, the high permeability or high flow capacity of the membrane reduces resistance loss, shortens filtration time, and thus reduces energy costs.

    Abstract: A method and apparatus for forming vascular-like channels involves liquid-in-liquid 3D printing utilizing two polymer solutions used as a printing ink and a matrix. Anionic polyacrylamide (APAM) is one of the polymer solutions and acts as the matrix material. Chitosan is the other polymer solution and acts as the printing ink. The chitosan printing ink is extruded through a print nozzle of a 3D printer onto the APAM matrix which covers the bottom of a petri dish while the nozzle is moved in a desired pattern for the channels. The chitosan and APAM polymer complexes self-assemble on the ink-matrix interface, locking chitosan polymers inside the matrix before they can spread and causing the formation of soft elastic membranous walls. The chitosan ink and APAM matrix can be removed after the polymer complex self-assembly. The printed chamber with membranous walls allows for liquid infusion to work as fluidic channels.
