  • Patent number: 4982145
Abstract: A digital current control arrangement for optimizing the transport time delay of a thyristor power supply used as a source of armature current for a DC motor utilizes a coarse gate angle interrupt subroutine to perform a preliminary calculation of the gate firing angle for the next thyristor to be fired. The coarse gate angle calculation is performed at a predetermined time following the firing of a previous thyristor. A finite gate angle interrupt subroutine is also provided for recalculating the gate firing angle at a second predetermined time just prior to the firing of the thyristor. The finite and coarse gate angle interrupt subroutines both perform their respective calculations using the common parameters. A flag passing arrangement is also included in the current control arrangement and is effective to insure that the finite gate firing angle is the preferred calculation used in the firing of the next thyristor.

  • Patent number: 4970964
Abstract: A single turnout rotary guideway switch is provided with an elongated structural frame member having guidebeam, electric rail and tire path structure on each of two sides of the switch compatible with the guidebeam, electric rail and tire path structure of the guideway. Switching is achieved by rotating a movable part of the switch 180 degrees about its longitudinal axis. One elongated beam acts as a principal structural member of the frame and provides a tire path on one of the switch sides for main line car routing by the switch. Another curved beam is secured between the one beam and another elongated beam that extends generally parallel to the one beam. The curved beam cross-supports the frame and provides a tire path on the other switch side for car turnout routing by the switch. In a crossover switching station in a dual lane guideway, a pair of the single turnout rotary switches are combined with an interface guideway section to provide for lane-crossover car routing by the switches.

  • Patent number: 4970962
Abstract: A double turnout rotary guideway switch is provided with an elongated structural frame member having guidebeam, electric rail and tire path structure on each of two sides of the switch compatible with the guidebeam, electric rail and tire path structure of the guideway. Two elongated beams form the sides of the frame and, with cross connected end beams, operating as the principal structural members for the frame. A curved beam extends from one of the elongated side beams inwardly and to one of the end beams. Opposite sides of the curved beam provide respective surfaces for a left turnout tire path on one of the two sides of the switch and a right turnout tire path the other side of the switch.

  • Patent number: 4970965
Abstract: A rotary switch is provided for a people mover guideway having a predetermined tire path, guidebeam and electric rail configuration. The rotary switch routes a transit car from one entry guideway path to at least either of the two exit guideway paths or vice versa. A movable elongated structural switch frame member has guidebeam, electric rail and tire path structure on one side compatibly with the guideway configuration to provide car routing to one of the two exit paths in one of two switch positions; the movable switch frame further has guidebeam, electric rail and tire path structure on another side compatibly with the guideway configuration to provide car routing to the other of the two exit paths in the second switch position. Switching is achieved by rotating a movable part of the switch 180.degree. degrees about its longitudinal axis. A first fixed frame supports a drive shaft which in turn supports a first end of the movable switch frame.

  • Patent number: 4969400
Abstract: A tire path, guidebeam, electric rail configuration for a guideway in a people mover system comprises a roadway structure having a pair of spaced tire paths forming a vehicle running surface. A guidebeam is disposed along a centerline between the tire paths to provide generally vertical guidance surfaces above the tire running surface for generally horizontal guidewheels on the vehicles. First and second electric rail units are substantially identically structure and extend along the roadway structure between the tire paths to provide conductive surfaces above the tire running surface for electric collection by brush assemblies on the vehicles. Together, the electric rail units have a predetermined number of electric rails to provide power and signal circuits for the vehicles. The first and second electric rail units are supported on opposite sides of the tire path centerline and at substantially equal distances from the centerline to enable turnaround vehicle operation.

  • Patent number: 4952856
Abstract: Method and apparatus for monitoring the temperature of a resistor in a resistive current controller. The heating and cooling rates for the resistor are determined and a predicted temperature of the resistor is automatically calculated at the beginning each time interval of consecutive time intervals by subtracting from the previous temperature prediction for the resistor the product of the cooling rate of the resistor and the time interval and adding the product of the heating rate of the resistor and the time interval. An actuating signal is produced when the predicted temperature of the resistor for a given time interval corresponds to a threshold temperature.

  • Patent number: 4916452
Abstract: With a frequency-agile pulsed doppler radar with high pulse repetition frequency (HPRF) in the unambiguous velocity region, in order to measure the range of a target the complex time signal derived from the echo signals of a coherent processing interval (CPI) is transformed into the frequency domain, the transformed spectrum is multiplied by a bandpass function with a mean frequency coinciding with the doppler frequency of the target, and the product is transformed back into a time signal. The real envelope of this re-transformed time signal displays a definite leading edge and a steady state region, from which the echo travel time can be estimated. Particular advantages may be derived for the pulsed doppler radar set from a plurality of frequency agile transmitter/receivers operated at the same time at different frequencies, and whose frequency switching times are time-staggered.

  • Patent number: 4913572
Abstract: Ribbon cassettes for typewriters or office machines of similar construction are subject to differnt structural requirements and primarily they are to be easily exchangeable in a one-hand operation. Since additionally the ribbon cassettes are also designed as disposable components, many still functional individual parts are also discarded. To avoid this, ribbon cassettes are known which have exchangeable ribbon spools. It is the object of the invention to provide a reloadable ribbon cassette in which the exchange of ribbon spools (4, 5) is possible with few manipulations. The removal of the spent ribbon spools (4, 5) should here be possible without soiling the fingers.

  • Patent number: 4901292
Abstract: A method for the position detection of the strip edge of a material web by means of an ultrasonic detector disposed in the strip edge region uses a transmitter 2 and a receiver 3, the received sound waves being transformed into an electric signal. To be sure to eliminate the influence of reflected waves on the measurement result, the transmitter 2 emits mutually time-shifted single pulses or wave packets. The wave packet (or single pulse) received by the receiver 3 is transformed into a corresponding electric oscillation packet, a limited area of the oscillation packet is scanned and the scan value is stored for further processing. An arrangement for the performance of the method comprises the transmitter 2 which is fed by a pulse train generator 4 the receiver 3 for delivering an electrical signal, an activatable peak rectifier circuit 6 connected to the receiver and an activatable transmission circuit 9 connected to the rectifier for transmission of the peak value to a memory.

  • Patent number: 4885442
Abstract: A contact element for a power switch which, in order to open or close the switch, cooperates with an opposite element, with a transitory rotating electric arc forming between the contact element and the opposite element when the switch is operated. The contact element has an electrode part which includes a portion made of an electrically conductive material. This portion defines a contact surface, with the electrode part having a defined width and being curved in the direction of the width to have the form of an open loop having a connecting end and a free end. A current may be introduced approximately tangentially to the open loop at its connecting end, and the free end is spaced from the connecting end in the direction toward the interior of the loop by a distance which is less than the defined width.

  • Patent number: 4861177
Abstract: A reloadable ribbon cassette system for typewriters or office machines of similar construction employs a bottom housing in which an exchangeable supply spool core for the ribbon and an exchangeable take-up spool core can be rotatably mounted. To facilitate the reloading process a cover plate is placed onto the top face of the ribbon coiled on the supply spool core, the cover plate inserted into the bottom housing member along with the supply spool core and ribbon when they are loaded. The cover plate has a contact surface for helping to steady a fastening element disposed at the free end of the ribbon during reloading.
