  • Patent number: 5377356
Abstract: For use in a propulsion control system, a microprocessor based central processing unit board includes both Multibus I and Multibus II interfaces. Multibus I master interface and Multibus slave interface controllers are designed for high data throughput by using programmed logic design (PLD) technology. In addition, the need for latching of data transceivers used in conventional Multibus I designs is eliminated. The Multibus II interface is removable.

  • Patent number: 5355060
Abstract: An impact load controller (28) compensates for the speed drop of a drive motor (12), which speed drop is caused by a load disturbance applied to the drive motor (12). A change in the dynamics of a speed controller (30, 34) in a speed regulator system for a stand in a tandem rolling mill is initiated by detecting a speed error (WE) which is greater than a predetermined speed error value and is removed after the speed error has been reduced to a predetermined value. The controller (28) is a pure rate controller whose input is converted into a rate change in speed error, which is multiplied by a gain factor. The resultant gain value product is initially increased by a predetermined factor to provide a high input signal to the (PI) speed controller (34) of a multi-loop speed regulator system for the drive motor (12), and to precharge a low pass filter.

  • Patent number: 5330593
Abstract: The invention relates to a process and apparatus for the hardening of elongate workpieces by means of an inductor 19. The apparatus comprises a rotary ring 3 mounted to rotate around a horizontal axis in a hardening basin 1 and having a number of retaining devices 11 by means of which each of individual workpieces 16 is retained horizontally and rotatably around its longitudinal axis. To improve the hardening result and increase the degree of automation of the apparatus and process, associated with each retaining device 11 for connection to a central driving shaft 2 is an adjustable clutch-brake unit 7, and the retaining device 11 is drivable by the driving shaft 2 in a first position, is uncoupled from the driving shaft 2 and freely rotatable in a second position and is braked in relation to the rotary ring 3 in a third position. By these steps each of the workpieces 16 disposed on the rotary ring 3 can perform rotary movements independently of one another.

  • Patent number: 5321343
Abstract: A control system for one or more dc motors in which thyristor power modules selectively gate portions of half cycles of ac voltage to the motor field and armature windings, has digitally implemented parallel inner control loops for the armature which each generate an intermediate control signal to which proportional plus derivative control action has been applied. Logic selects the intermediate control signal which phases back firing pulses for the thyristor power modules the most for application to a common digital integrator which produces a control signal having proportional plus integral control action. The voltage across each of the thyristors is monitored and used to detect continuous and discontinuous current operation for adjusting integrator gain.

  • Patent number: 5289176
Abstract: A method and apparatus for determining an overall master node for an overall communication network with a serial bus, wherein the overall communication network comprises an original communication network connected to a new communication network via a serial bus with high level data link control (HDLC) packets. The method and apparatus are especially applicable to trainline monitor systems since such systems are frequently divided up and rearranged because their associated trains are frequently divided up and rearranged. The method involves performing a series of steps in order to relinquish mastership of certain master nodes placing those master nodes in an inactive state and making a desired master node an overall master node of the resulting overall trainline monitor system, and the apparatus involves a corresponding series of means for performing these steps.

  • Patent number: 5255208
Abstract: A method and apparatus for on-line diagnostics, particularly for use in power circuits of a DC-DC converter is described. Signals are sensed at selected strategic test points in a circuit and compared with stored expected signals for those points under normal operating conditions. Whenever the signals sensed at the selected test points do not correlate with the corresponding expected signals, the sensed signal is compared with abnormal signals stored in the memory associated with known failure conditions for that test point. Whenever the sensed signal matches closely with a signal for a known failure condition, an indication of the particular failure is logged into memory. If the sensed signal does not match a known failure condition, an indication of an unknown failure condition is logged into memory. Failure information can later be retrieved by maintenance personnel at a convenient time or can be displayed on an operator's display during operation.
