Abstract: The present document relates to a system and method of commingling a low volume of a target solution with an array. For example, a quantity of the target solution and a quantity of an immiscible liquid may be introduced into a cavity having an array on an interior surface. The quantities of target solution and immiscible liquid do not fill the volume. Therefore, a gas is contained within the volume. The cavity is then agitated.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for measuring a duration of an event using two time-varying waveforms, each waveform having characteristics such that the waveforms intersect at an intersecting point. The duration of the event can be determined based on the characteristics and a value of the intersecting point of the waveforms. The characteristics of the waveforms can be the gradient or the initial value of the waveforms.
Abstract: An apparatus adapted for measuring the properties of periodic signals and a method for making such measurements is disclosed. The apparatus includes a LO signal generator, a mixer, a low pass filter and an output device. The mixer receives a periodic input signal having harmonics including a highest harmonic of interest, N, and a fundamental frequency, ?in. The mixer outputs an IF signal that is filtered. The filtered IF signal includes a frequency-compressed signal having M harmonics including a fundamental characterized by a frequency ?c<?in. Each of the harmonics in the frequency-compressed signal corresponds to one of the harmonics in the input signal and has an amplitude related to the amplitude of the corresponding harmonic in the input signal.

Abstract: An electrophoresis gel matrix is provided for conducting proteomics, in particular the steps of separating and/or identifying proteins. The matrix comprises at least one chemical reagent being at least one of a denaturing, buffering, disaggregating, reducing, staining or dissolving reagent, and a volume of dimethylsulfoxide. The use of such a matrix, which is provided to be filled into an electrophoresis capillary being part of a microfluidic device for carrying out proteomics, leads to an enhanced resolution of proteins. The matrix is prepared adding a volume of dimethylsulfoxide ranging from 4% to 15%, preferably from 5% to 10%, most preferably from 6% to 8% with respect to the total volume of chemical reagents being comprised in the matrix. A method is provided for preparation of the matrix for conducting proteomics and a method is conducted to carry out proteomics by the use of this matrix.
Abstract: In one embodiment, a spectral map for performing nonlinear calibration of a signal path is developed by 1) identifying a set of frequency locations for a set of particular output signal spurs that result from applying one-tone and two-tone input signals covering a bandwidth of interest to the signal path; 2) developing, based on the set of frequency locations, a spectral map for predistorting, in the frequency domain, signals that are applied to, or received from, the signal path in the time domain; and 3) saving the spectral map for performing nonlinear calibration of the signal path.

Abstract: A Method and Apparatus for Detecting the Presence and Locations of Radio Controlled Improvised Explosive Devices in Real Time. The system will clandestinely detect the presence and location of RCIED's along roadways in real time. This “RCIED Street Sweeper” system consequently allows its users to remove the explosive devices, pre-detonate them, or simply avoid the location so that the weapons cannot be used against a convoy or other important target. The system has the abilities (disclosed in U.S. patent application Ser. No. 10/829,858) to conduct fast wideband scanning of the RF spectrum looking for ambient RF signals as well as RCIED leakage signals. Furthermore the system has the ability to correlate the received leakage signals with the ambient RF signal environment, in order to verify authenticity. Still further, the system has the ability to continually mark and record the precise map location where each of those RF spectrum measurements emanated, including the relative distances between them.

Abstract: A signal coupling system interposed between a scanning probe and a measurement instrument provides signal communication between the scanning probe and the measurement instrument. The signal coupling system has a pre-stressed shape when the scanning probe is in a neutral position. The pre-stressed shape is designated to provide a characteristic impedance of the signal coupling system that varies linearly as a function of displacement of the scanning probe from the neutral position when the scanning probe is displaced, relative to the neutral position, over a designated range of displacements.

Abstract: A fluidic device comprising a capillary for conducting a fluid and a pivot arm configured for being pivoted, wherein the pivot arm supports at least a portion of the capillary, and a part of the capillary is coiled to at least partially compensate stress resulting from pivoting of the pivot arm.
Abstract: A timing bridge device is used to gain boundary and transparent clock functionality using conventional network components on those network links that require good timing distribution. This timing path is invisible to the network component. The timing bridge device has an internal time clock and timestamps a received message according to the internal time clock when the message is received by a network device and when the message leaves the network device. The time associated with the message is then adjusted based on a determined transit delay.
Abstract: A method for measuring amplifier gain compression in an OFDM signal includes measuring the signal as a function of time to provide an observed time magnitude, demodulating the OFDM signal to determine an estimate of the ideal signal constellation points, performing an inverse FFT on the estimate of the ideal constellation points to produce an estimated ideal time magnitude, comparing the observed time magnitude to the estimated ideal time magnitude to provide a measure of amplifier gain compression.
