Abstract: A system and method of using a refractive index sensor to determine a characteristic of a sample. The operation of the system and method allow for determining a change in a bulk index of the sample, and an amount of sample adsorption, using a reflected beam from an interface of the sensor. An embodiment of a system and method further provide for identifying changes in incident angles determine from reflective measurement data of the sensor, in combination with different proportionality constants of the refractive index sensor to determine a characteristic of the sample.

Abstract: A method for synthesizing a polynucleotide is disclosed. The method comprises providing a functionalized support comprising a triaryl methyl linker bound to the solid support through a substitution on one of the aryl groups, a nucleotide chain bound to the central methyl carbon of the triaryl methyl group and a nucleoside with a reactive site hydroxyl. The method further provides contacting that functionalized support with a precursor having a hydroxyl protecting group and a phosphorous derivative reactive group to produce internucleotide linkage. The resulting compound is then treated to both remove the hydroxyl protecting group on the precursor, and to oxidize the internucleotide bond.

Additionally, an apparatus corrects power measurements of a signal having a changing frequency and includes an acquisition block for acquiring samples of the signal, a sequence controller for matching the samples of the signal to a sequence of frequencies indexed to correction transforms and a correction block for applying the correction transforms to the samples of the signal.
Abstract: A probe device is provided that has light source thereon that can be activated and deactivated. In accordance with an embodiment, the light source operates as a visual indicator to provide a visual indication of whether a good connection exists between the tips of the probe device and the intended contact points on the DUT. In accordance with another embodiment, the light source operates as a source of illumination to illuminate the probe tips and the contact pads on the DUT as the user is attempting to place the probe tips in contact with the contact pads on the DUT. In accordance with yet another embodiment, the light source performs the dual functions of providing a visual indication of connection status and of illuminating the probe device tips and the intended contact points on the DUT.

Abstract: A phase controlling apparatus is disclosed. The phase controlling apparatus controls phases of signals which are output from a plurality of signal sources corresponding to first phase information which indicates a phase of a predetermined signal. The phase controlling apparatus includes a phase information storing section and a phase controlling section. The phase information storing section stores second phase information which indicates a phase of a signal which is output from each of the plurality of signal sources. The phase controlling section changes a phase of a signal which is output from at least one of the plurality of signal sources corresponding to the second phase information stored in the phase information storing means to control the difference of phases of signals which are output from the plurality of signal sources.

Abstract: By equipping receiving devices in a network with synchronizable clocks it is possible to periodically send an “impulse” signal that is received by all of the clocks at the same (or relatively the same) instant of time. The accuracy of the impulse clock need not be high, only that its signal reach all the clocks approximately at the same time. In one embodiment, a transmitting device, upon receipt of the synchronizing impulse signal, sends a packet of data bearing the sending device's epoch time-stamp to a receiving device. The data packet makes its way through the network element to the receiving device and the time-stamp is used by the receiving device to calculate the difference between the epoch time of the receiver and the epoch time of the sender. Effectively, this procedure removes the unknown network element transit times from the equation and allows the devices to operate in a synchronized manner.
