  • Patent number: 5121672
Abstract: A method for carrying out shelling of a target with a plurality of ammunition units fired successively from a single barrel rapid-firing ordnance piece includes supplying data to a computer means regarding the target to be shelled, generating by the computer means in response to the input data, an output data for controlling at least one of the following: the ordnance piece and the flight parameters of the respective ammunition units. The controlling of the ordnance piece and the ammunition units during firing of the successive ammunition unit from the single barrel ordnance is coordinated for imparting to the ammunition units different flight times between the ordnance piece and the target selecting the different flight times such that the ammunition units reach the target at approximately the same time after the launch from the ordnance piece.

Abstract: A breech mechanism for large caliber artillery pieces is characterized by a specifically designed sealing function in the form of an intermediate layer between a main portion of the breech mechanism and a seating portion displaceable in relation thereto by the gas pressure in the gun. The seating portion, on being displaced towards the breech, compresses the intermediate layer disposed therebetween and consisting of an elastically deformable refractory material which, on its deformation, is urged into tight abutment against the rear portion of the gun barrel about the loading space of the gun along a gap between the seating portion and the main portion of the breech mechanism.

  • Patent number: 5109231
Abstract: A radar system comprises a transmitter which essentially continuously transmits a modulated carrier wave signal and a receiver for receiving the carrier wave signal reflected at an object (echo signal). The carrier wave signal is modulated with a code-generating signal whose code frequency is determined for the range resolution of the radar. The code-generating signal is such that one bit in the code has a duration which is several times longer than the period of the carrier wave signal and several bits of the code form a block which is obtained by modulation of a carrier wave with constant frequency. The frequency of the carrier wave is changed between blocks so that the transmitter sends a block with a carrier wave frequency which is different from the carrier wave frequency or frequencies which the receiver is set up to receive. The receiver stores the transmitted code and correlates it with the received signal.

  • Patent number: 5085123
Abstract: A device used especially in a large caliber weapon for controlling the train of motion of an ammunition unit during the ramming thereof in the weapon, and of the case of the ammunition unit on firing of the gun includes an impact arrangement which upon ramming of the ammunition unit enter into interaction with and retard the ammunition unit. An energy storing device is chargeable through the impact with kinetic energy existing in the retarding ammunition unit. In response to energy transmitted from the energy storing device the closing of the breech block is activated. The breech block in the closed position retains the case of the ammunition unit during the firing and during a predetermined portion of the rearwardly directed movement in the gun effected on firing. The impact arrangement includes an impact member interactable with a flange on the case and displaceable in the longitudinal direction of the gun, and an impact spring means interactable with the impact member and with an impact piston.

  • Patent number: 5069135
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and an apparatus for producing rapid cross-ignition of preferably elongate powder or pyrotechnic charges, such as the propellant charges in impulse motors for correcting the trajectory of shells, rockets and missiles. The cross-ignition is produced by initiation of an elongate, extremely fast-burning or detonating primer charge with an extremely low explosive force which has been arranged in contact with at least part of the periphery of the propellant charge. The primer charge forms a tube whose cross-ignition effect is advantageously complemented by an inner, slower burning powder core which is combusted with deflagration.

  • Patent number: 5020415
Abstract: A tank with an overlying gun which is mounted in a cradle disposed on the crew turret also includes a loading pendulum which is disposed on a journal ring and pivotal in relation to the crew turret. The loading pendulum and the gun are asymmetrically journalled, such that the positions of the gun and the loading pendulum are dependent upon the elevation/depression of the gun. The gun is longitudinally/vertically displaced in the plane of elevation on elevation/depression. This is achieved in that the cradle is retractably disposed in the plane of elevation with the aid of a member determining the degree of retraction of the gun and may be elevated/depressed about an abutment pivotally mounted between the revolving portion, or turret, and the gun. The abutment is movable in the plane of elevation. The abutment and the cradle are adapted in the different elevations/depressions, to adjust the position of the breech of the gun to the pivotal movement of the loading pendulum about its pivotal center.

  • Patent number: 4991489
Abstract: A loading device for large-caliber weapons allows for firing with rounds consisting of different types of projectiles and charges/cartridges of different sizes which are combinable with the projectiles upon being loaded into the weapon. The projectiles are placed in a first magazine at which a first transfer device is disposed. This first transfer device transfers each respective projectile to the axis of the bore of the weapon so as to make possible the interaction of the projectile with a ramming device which rams home each respective projectile placed in the axis of the bore. The charges/cartridges are placed in a second magazine at which second transfer devices are disposed, for transferring each respective charge/cartridge to a defined position behind the associated projectile rammed home by the ramming device.

  • Patent number: 4989494
Abstract: A tank (1) is designed with an overlying gun (3) and a crew turret (2). The traverse movements of the gun and the crew turret are coordinated. A complete ammunition handling system (9, 11) for reserve ammunition (10) is provided ancillary to the standard feeding and loading system. The reserve system includes an ammunition tube which is guided by a linkage system (9) between a rest position and a position in an extension of the bore axis (5). The ammunition tube is provided with its own ramming means (11a). At a predetermined traverse position for the gun and the crew turret, reserve ammunition may be transferred to the system when this assumes an initial position. The reserve system may be actuated in a per se known manner so that the ammunition tube assumes a position in association with the breech, where the ammunition unit may be longitudinally displaced into the gun with the aid of the above-mentioned ramming means (11a).

  • Patent number: 4936216
Abstract: Transmitter and receiver devices are included in an active optic proximity fuse for providing increased resistance to aerosols. The transmitter and receiver units operate with optical radiation and include a signal processing unit which reacts to a target located in a sensing region and reflecting optical radiation emitted from the transmitter device to the receiver device. The sensing region displays, most proximal a carrier of the proximity fuse, an inner sensing limit which is located at an inner distance from the carrier. The signal processing unit operates with preparatory signal processing and/or time measurement of reflected signals when the target is located within the sensing region, and emits an activation signal only when the target passes the inner sensing limit.
