  • Patent number: 9769836
Abstract: A first base station selects a subset of channels of an unlicensed frequency band based on indications of energy received over the channels. The first base station transmits one or more messages instructing user equipment to monitor the subset of channels and report information indicating whether at least one second base station is transmitting over the subset of channels. User equipment monitors the subset of channels of the unlicensed frequency band in response to receiving the one or more messages from a first base station indicating the subset of channels. The user equipment transmits one or more messages including information indicating whether one or more second base stations are transmitting over the subset of channels.

  • Patent number: 9768883
Abstract: An optical receiver includes an equalizer to generate a plurality of equalization coefficients corresponding to a plurality of frequencies of an optical signal received by the optical receiver. The equalizer zeroes out a first subset of the equalization coefficients corresponding to a first subset of the plurality of frequency components and applies a second subset of non-zero equalization coefficients to the first signal. The optical receiver may also include a chromatic dispersion compensator to generate inverse chromatic dispersion coefficients corresponding to the plurality of frequency components, and to zero out a first subset of the inverse chromatic dispersion coefficients corresponding to the first subset of the plurality of frequency components and further to apply a second subset of non-zero inverse chromatic dispersion coefficients to a second optical signal.

  • Patent number: 9762288
Abstract: Methods to improve the data carrying capacity of CATV DOCSIS systems and other communications systems are disclosed. Communications channels may be more efficiently spaced with reduced or absent guard bands by using receivers with adaptive signal cancellation methods, equalizing circuits, or polyphase filter banks and Fast Fourier Transform signal processing methods to correct for higher levels of cross-talk. QAM type communications channels may also be utilized on a synchronized two-transmitter at a time basis by adjusting the transmitters to predefined signal levels, such as +1, ?1, +½, ?½ to enable the combined signals to be distinguished at the receiver. These two methods may be combined to create a still higher data throughput system.

  • Patent number: 9762379
Abstract: We disclose an optical receiver for direct detection of an intensity-modulated optical signal, the digital signal processor of which employs a clock-recovery circuit capable of reliably recovering the internal clock of the received optical signal without relying on dispersion-compensation processing even if the signal's eye pattern is substantially closed. In an example embodiment, the clock-recovery circuit comprises a frequency-domain phase detector that operates to determine and track in time the sampling phase using only a subset of the digital spectral components corresponding to the received optical signal. The determined sampling phase is then used to synchronize the digital electrical samples of the received optical signal with the internal clock thereof by way of digital interpolation or through appropriate control of the sampling frequency and phase of the receiver's analog-to-digital converter.

  • Patent number: 9756407
Abstract: A communication network that employs a plurality of multi-endpoint (MEP) optical transceivers in a leaf (or functionally similar) layer thereof. The use of MEP optical transceivers enables the communication network to support a pair of parallel paths for any source/destination pair of network nodes. In an example configuration, data packets that flow through one of the parallel paths go from the source node to the destination node via an electronic packet switch in the network's spine layer. Data packets that flow through another one of the parallel paths go from the source node to the destination node via an optical cross-connect switch. In operation, a network controller may dynamically select which one of the parallel paths to enable for each particular source/destination pair of network nodes, with the selection being made, e.g., based on the data volume to be transmitted between the two nodes.
