Abstract: A port assembly for delivering fluid through a shell of a horizontal rotating reactor, such as a rotary kiln, is disclosed for purging from the port particulate material which enters port piping when no fluid is passing through the port. The port assembly comprises a cylindrical nozzle disposed in a port pipe, or port sleeve. The nozzle defines a nozzle orifice for discharging fluid into the reactor. A base member having a sloping surface is provided adjacent the nozzle with the sloping surface and nozzle cooperating to define a fluid distribution cavity with a thickness constantly varying from its circumference toward its center. The base member is sized as to define a fluid supply passage with facing surfaces of the port sleeve. Rest tabs along the circumference of the base member separate the base member from the nozzle while permitting communication between the fluid supply passage and fluid distribution cavity.

Abstract: A pair of three-element, constant speed lift jacks are positioned at the rear of the stationary mast section uprights above the tilt jack connections with the same uprights, thus permitting the mast to be close-coupled to the front of a counterbalanced lift truck. The support for the lower ends of the lift jacks, at the rear of the primary uprights, are reinforced by the pivot brackets for the tilt jacks and also by an intermediate cross tie between the primary uprights.
Abstract: A cylinder head gasket for an internal combustion engine having double metal wrapped hoops providing a reinforced fire ring around the combustion chamber. The inner hoop is the larger hoop to carry the clamping load and form a positive seal while the outer hoop reinforces the inner hoop.
Abstract: The idler drum shaft (59) of a feeder conveyor (28, 29) has a pair of detachable extensions (68, 69, 168) which when removed permit a floating idler roller (47) and the central portion (63) of the shaft (59) to be removed in a direction parallel to the conveyor side walls (41, 42, 116). The idler roller support arms (66, 67) of inside mounted tensioning mechanisms (56, 57) are connected with the shaft extensions (68, 69, 168) and also serve as abutments cooperating with upper and lower stops (81, 82) limiting vertical swinging movement of the floating idler roller (47). Washers (114) may be used to lengthen the idler drum shaft and to maintain a predetermined minimum lateral spacing between the idler drum support arms (66, 67).
Abstract: A thrust containment apparatus is disclosed for use with a pressurized rotary kiln gasifier. The thrust containment apparatus maintains stationary hoods mounted on both ends of the kiln shell in fixed positions by relieving the hoods of forces generated by high pressures within the kiln. The thrust containment device comprises braces mounted on the hoods on the sides remote from the kiln shell. Tie members, or tie rods, extending along the exterior of the kiln shell connect the braces. An expandable bellows is provided between one brace and its adjacent hood. As tie members deform through thermal and tensile expansion, the bellows accomodates the expansion while maintaining a gas-tight seal between the hood and the brace.
Abstract: Coal is placed upon hot mineral solids being cooled by an upward flow of ambient air; the coal is dried, ignited and completely combusted under process conditions associated with cooling after firing. The hot off-gas from cooling is returned directly to the firing section or other sections of the process as heat.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for isolating one or more of the filter compartments in a baghouse installation wherein an inlet damper having a pair of spaced closure members is provided in the inlet duct of each of the compartments. When the inlet damper associated with one of the compartments is closed to isolate the compartment, the closure members seal off the inlet duct to form a chamber within the duct which is vented to the atmosphere through an air damper adapted to admit heated ambient air into the chamber to prevent the flue gases from seeping into the compartment.
Abstract: A pair of tensioning mechanisms (56, 57) for an idler drum (47) of a conveyor (28) transferring crop material from the header (21) to the processor (31) of a harvester are located entirely within the conveyor housing (22). Each tensioning mechanism (56, 57) includes an arm (66 or 67) secured by a combined pivot and lost motion connection (88, 91, 93, 96 or 89, 92, 94, 97) to the conveyor housing side walls (41, 42) and biased by a tension spring (104 or 106) disposed at its inboard side.

Abstract: An elongated drum for mixing asphalt materials has a rear inlet end, a front outlet end and a side wall concentric to a substantially horizontal axis about which the drum rotates. For feeding salvaged asphalt material into the drum, the side wall has circumferentially spaced ports in a zone intermediate said ends. As ports move upwardly in their orbits, material falls toward them from the bottom outlet of a hopper above the drum and is guided into them by chutes, one for each port, that are fixed to the side wall and project out from it. Also, fixed to the side wall is an inwardly projecting spout for each port whereby material entering the port is deflected forwardly to fall to the bottom of the drum in front of the ported zone. Material moving forward from the rear of the drum is deflected around the ports by the spout walls. An annular trough-like shroud encircles the drum at said zone, embracing the chutes as they move orbitally and preventing incursion of external ambient air into the ports.

Abstract: A power transistor switch is protected against thermal destruction that might be caused by accidental short circuiting of the load being switched by a protective circuit having a base-drive-removing transistor in shunt to the base-emitter junction of the power transistor; an RC circuit including a capacitor in series with a resistor connected across the power transistor with the capacitor coupled across the base-emitter junction of the base-drive-removing transistor; a forward-biased shunting transistor connected across the capacitor; a shunt-removing transistor connected across the base-emitter junction of the shunting transistor; and a turn-on transistor triggerable to the conductive state by a turn-on signal for applying base drive to the power transistor and for forward biasing the shunt removing transistor to thereby turn off the shunting transistor and permit the capacitor to charge.
Abstract: A cotton stripper of the finger type in which attachments (26, 26') are releasably secured to selected fingers (12, 12') to provide reduced spacing (b) when the attachments (26, 26') are mounted on alternate fingers (12, 21') and further reduced spacing (c) when the attachments (26, 26') are mounted on every finger (26, 26').
Abstract: An adjustable power steering mechanism to compensate for the adjusting of the tread width on the front wheels of a tractor. The tie rod is adjusted axially by a single adjusting device on the tie rod to extend or contract the tie rod to assure the same adjustment is made on the tie rod as on the front axle. A hydraulic actuator connected between a steering arm and a bracket on the front axle has a single adjustment to compensate for the tread width adjustments on the front axle and tie rod.

Abstract: A pocket filter cartridge for removing solid particulates from a dirty gas stream including a plurality of sheath-like filter bags suspended from a common header assembly in side-by-side relation. Each of the filter bags includes a plurality of alternating rows of filamentary stays or span stitching spaced across the width of the bag and extending generally parallel to one another along its length so that upon inflation of the bag by the dirty gas stream during use, the stays shape the bag into a plurality of adjacent tube-like sections opening into one another within the bag. The stays in each row are sized to be of a different length than the stays in the rows adjacent to it to alternately vary the thickness of the bag at the juncture of the tube-like sections formed in the bag.
