  • Patent number: 4324383
Abstract: The actuator shaft of a butterfly valve rotates 90 degrees to open or close an associated flow interrupter. As the shaft rotates its 90-degree motion is imparted to associated link members and the flow interrupters that are operably connected to the shaft. Thus, a drive link, secondary shaft and vane, as well as the support trunnions, are rotated simultaneously. This arrangement permits the seating of the seal on an axis which coincides with the axis of the actuator shaft and the sealing effected is bidirectional.

  • Patent number: 4323126
Abstract: A method for preparing a field which has crop residue rows for subsequent row crop planting comprises cutting a plurality of furrows between crop residue rows and lifting and turning over the soil from the furrows into ridges, and simultaneously scraping over a plurality of crop residue rows and transferring the residue into the furrows which are being simultaneously cut, and wherein the former step forms the ridges on surfaces that are simultaneously being cleared by the latter step. The method is accomplished by tillage apparatus including a horizontal frame, a plurality of furrow cutting moldboards affixed to the frame and being curved to lift and turn over the soil cut from the furrows into ridges, and a plurality of trash boards affixed to the frame diagonally to the crop rows and in alternate relation to the moldboards and being curved to transfer the crop residue removed thereby into the furrows being simultaneously cut by the moldboards.

  • Patent number: 4318713
Abstract: Method for gasifying cellulosic material comprises feeding cellulosic material into the uphill end of an inclined rotary kiln; transporting a bed of cellulosic material through the kiln and continuously tumbling the bed; withdrawing fuel gas from the uphill end of the kiln so it flows countercurrent to the bed and removes moisture in the drying zone and thermally decompose volatiles in the devolatilization zone; admitting air overbed in the devolatilization zone and only underbed in the gasifying zone; and controlling the mass flow rate of air into the devolatilization and gasifying zones respectively as predetermined percentages of that rate of which is stoichiometric to the cellulosic material fed into the kiln to thereby limit temperature rise, prevent agglomeration and minimize entrainment of solid particles.

  • Patent number: 4312407
Abstract: A trip mechanism 41 for a plow standard 11 includes a pair of toggle links 46, 61 having their remote ends pivotally connected, respectively, to a plow frame 15 and the standard 11. Link 61 includes a leaf spring 63 with a rolled end 86 pivotally connected to the link 46 by a pin 88 normally disposed in an overcenter position; however, when excessive working forces are encountered, the leaf spring 63 deflects somewhat in the manner of a cantilevered beam causing the pin 88 to move from its overcenter position to a tripped position thus allowing the plow standard 11 to swing upwardly about its pivot axis 16.

  • Patent number: 4304550
Abstract: Emission gas to be scrubbed of sulfur dioxide or the like has turbulent flow through a mixing vessel. At a mixing zone in the vessel, comminuted lime is fed into the gas and carried out of the vessel with the gas to a cyclone separator. A substantial portion of the dust from the cyclone is recycled back to the mixing zone of the mixing vessel. The gas from the cyclone is passed through a quench zone and excess dust from the cyclone is introduced into the gas stream for additional sulfur-dioxide removal, and quenching of the gas and dust from the cyclone is accomplished in a quenching zone prior to the gas being utilized in the system. Off-gas from the preheat zone which contains unburned combustibles is burned in a booster heater with the heat being utilized as process heat. Excess preheat off-gas not required for preheat process is delivered to a second combustion furnace for burning the combustibles therein and the heat utilized for drying.
