  • Patent number: 9274573
Abstract: A method and apparatus for protecting access to sensitive information stored in vulnerable storage areas (e.g., public memory, registers, cache) of a microprocessor. A microprocessor having a reset port to receive external reset commands may have a reset diversion circuit that may be selectively enabled. The microprocessor may operate in an open mode or a secure mode, indicating the absence or the potential presence, respectively, of sensitive information in the vulnerable storage areas. In open mode, the reset diversion circuit may be disabled such that external reset requests triggers a hardware reset. In secure mode, sensitive information may be recorded on vulnerable storage areas. The reset diversion circuit may be enabled to divert external reset requests to an interrupt which may trigger execution of a software code. The software code, when executed, may perform a secured system clean-up routine to erase the vulnerable storage areas prior to reset.

  • Patent number: 9275467
Abstract: Contours of objects appearing in a digital image are extracted in a plurality of one-directional passes across the digital image. Each pass loads rows or columns of the image into a local memory, in the order they appear in the image, and analyzes them for the presence of portions of the full contour. The portions are then combined to create the full contour.

  • Patent number: 9276617
Abstract: Digital pre-distortion (DPD) systems are often used to improve the linearity of a power amplifier in transmitters. These DPD systems are typically implemented in baseband (prior to modulation). However, ever increasing signal bandwidth requirements limits the practicality of DPD systems implemented in baseband. A DPD system in the radio frequency (RF) domain (as opposed to in baseband) can solve this problem and further improve a DPD system's ability to correct for distortions. The RF domain DPD system is upstream from a digital-to-analog converter, and performs DPD after a baseband signal is up-sampled into the RF domain (after the modulation process). When compared against a baseband DPD system, the RF domain DPD system can handle significantly wider bandwidth, and has an improved ability to linearize a wide variety of distortions present in the spectrum.

  • Patent number: 9265101
Abstract: A LED drive system for controlling an off-chip power supply enables the power supply function to be located ‘off-chip’—i.e., on an IC which is separate from the IC containing the other LED drive system components. The off-chip supply provides a common line voltage for LED strings connected in series with respective current sink circuits at respective junctions, in response to a signal applied to a control input. The system includes a ‘minimum’ circuit which outputs the least of the voltages at the junctions, and an I/O pin which receives a signal that varies with the output of the minimum circuit. When the external supply's control input is coupled to the system's I/O pin, the present system controls the output of the external power supply as needed to provide a desired common line voltage.

  • Publication number: 20160029968
Abstract: Heart rate monitors are plagued by noisy sensor data, which makes it difficult for the monitors to output a consistently accurate heart rate reading. To address the issue of noise, some monitors blindly discard sensor data which are too noisy, and stop producing heart rate readings. In some cases, if the monitors do not discard the noisy sensor data, the noisy sensor data can cause irregular heart rate readings. As a result, noisy data can lead to inaccurate heart rate readings or no heart rate readings at all. The present disclosure describes an improved technique for qualifying an input signal, i.e., determining whether a portion of the input signal is likely to result in an accurate heart rate reading, by assessing whether the frequency information of the input signal resembles a heartbeat. The resulting improved heart rate monitor is robust in tracking the heart rate in a noisy environment.

  • Patent number: 9252660
Abstract: A system, method, and computer program product for generating a regulated boosted load voltage. A comparator may use reduced versions of a reference voltage, a supply voltage, and a fed-back output load voltage to determine whether the output load voltage requires adjustment. If so, a controller may responsively vary the number of voltage boosting charge pumps connected in parallel to the load to best match a target voltage. The target voltage may be the reference voltage plus the supply voltage. A counter may track the number of active charge pumps, and may increment or decrement the number more slowly than the charge pumps operate. Loop gain may be limited by an integrating filter to prevent oscillation. The embodiments are of particular utility for signal conversion circuitry as they eliminate difficulties arising from gate-source voltage inadequacies and differences in switch transistors. A wider range of reference voltages may be accommodated.
