Patent number: 11228291Abstract: Chopper amplifiers with multiple sensing points for correcting input offset are disclosed herein. In certain embodiments, a chopper amplifier includes chopper amplifier circuitry including an input chopping circuit, an amplification circuit, and an output chopping circuit electrically connected in a cascade along a signal path. The chopper amplifier further incudes a multi-point sensed offset correction circuit that generates an input offset compensation signal based on sensing a signal level of the signal path at multiple signal points. Furthermore, the multi-point sensed offset correction circuit injects the input offset compensation signal into the signal path to thereby compensate for input offset voltage of the amplification circuit while suppressing output chopping ripple from arising.Type: GrantFiled: May 22, 2020Date of Patent: January 18, 2022Assignee: Analog Devices, Inc.Inventor: Yoshinori Kusuda

Patent number: 11228310Abstract: Optically isolated micromachined (MEMS) switches and related methods are described. The optically isolated MEMS switches described herein may be used to provide isolation between electronic devices. For example, the optically isolated MEMS switches of the types described herein can enable the use of separate grounds between the receiving electronic device and the control circuitry. Isolation of high-voltage signals and high-voltage power supplies can be achieved by using an optical isolator and a MEMS switch, where the optical isolator controls the state of the MEMS switch. In some embodiments, utilizing optical isolators to provide high voltages, the need for electric high-voltage sources such as high-voltage power supplies and charge pumps may be removed, thus removing the cause of potential damage to the receiving electronic device. In one example, the optical isolator and the MEMS switch may be co-packaged on the same substrate.Type: GrantFiled: October 26, 2020Date of Patent: January 18, 2022Assignee: Analog Devices Global Unlimited CompanyInventors: Ying Zhao, Alan O'Donnell, Michael James Twohig, Olly J. Patent number: 11216379Abstract: A processor system includes a processor core, a cache, a cache controller, and a cache assist controller. The processor core issues a read/write command for reading data from or writing data to a memory. The processor core also outputs an address range specifying addresses for which the cache assist controller can return zero fill, e.g., an address range for the read/write command. The cache controller transmits a cache request to the cache assist controller based on the read/write command. The cache assist controller receives the address range output by the processor core and compares the address range to the cache request. If a memory address in the cache request falls within the address range, the cache assist controller returns a string of zeroes, rather than fetching and returning data stored at the memory address.Type: GrantFiled: July 29, 2020Date of Patent: January 4, 2022Assignee: Analog Devices International Unlimited CompanyInventors: Thirukumaran Natrayan, Saurbh Srivastava

Patent number: 11218118Abstract: An example apparatus includes a power amplifier (PA) and a linearity optimizer. The optimizer includes a PA actuator and a linearity adaptation circuit. The actuator is configured to generate an actuator output based on an actuator input and a vector of complex gains computed by the linearity adaptation circuit based on a feedback signal indicative of PA's output. The adaptation circuit is configured to compute the vector of complex gains in a manner that maximizes the power of the actuator output while ensuring that the deviation of PA's behavior from a linear behavior (e.g., in terms of one or more linearity parameters) is below a threshold. Controlling actuator output in a manner that maximizes its power while taking into consideration one or more linearity parameters to ensure that target linearity is achieved controls drive signals for the PA and, thus, may help in terms of PA linearity and efficiency.Type: GrantFiled: March 30, 2020Date of Patent: January 4, 2022Assignee: ANALOG DEVICES INTERNATIONAL UNLIMITED COMPANYInventors: Patrick Pratt, Hossein Yektaii

Patent number: 11218734Abstract: There is disclosed herein examples of systems and methods for compressing a signal. Samples of the signal can be segmented and the samples within each of the segments can be averaged to produce a value that can represent the samples within the segment. The number of samples to average in each segment may be determined based on an error threshold, such that the number of samples being averaged can be maximized to produce less data to be transmitted while maintaining the representation of the samples within the error threshold. In some embodiments, a signal can be separated into a timing reference, a representative periodic function, and a highly compressible error signal. The error signal can be utilized for reproducing a representation of the signal.Type: GrantFiled: February 11, 2020Date of Patent: January 4, 2022Assignee: ANALOG DEVICES, INC.Inventors: Patrick Riehl, Tony J. Publication number: 20210409002Abstract: Transconductor circuits with programmable tradeoff between bandwidth and flicker noise are disclosed. An example circuit includes an input port, an output port, a plurality of transistors, and a switch arrangement that includes a plurality of switches, configured to change coupling between the input port, the output port, and the transistors to place the transconductor circuit in a first or a second mode of operation. An input capacitance of the transconductor circuit operating in the first mode is larger than when the transconductor circuit is operating in the second mode. In the first mode, having a larger input capacitance results in a decreased flicker noise because the amount of flicker noise is inversely proportional to the input capacitance. In the second mode, having a smaller input capacitance leads to an increased flicker noise but that is acceptable for wide-bandwidth applications because wide-bandwidth signals may be less sensitive to flicker noise.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 24, 2020Publication date: December 30, 2021Applicant: Analog Devices, Inc.Inventor: Antonio MONTALVO
