Abstract: One embodiment of the present invention provides a system that facilitates end-to-end quality of service (QoS) between a source and a destination in a network. During operation, the system allocates virtual channels on an output port of a switch to a number of quality of service (QoS) levels. The system further assigns a virtual channel to a traffic flow based on a QoS zone, wherein the QoS zone is identified by a host identifier, a target identifier, and a QoS level of the traffic flow. In addition, the system forwards data frames in the traffic flow via the assigned virtual channel.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a method in a mobile device and a mobile device for low power identification of its position in an indoor environment, in which beacon transmitters of a beacon system are present. The device receives a notification from at least one of the beacon transmitters of the beacon system that notifies the mobile device that it is within the range of the beacon system. Thus it is the beacon transmitters that perform the continuous scanning to identify if the mobile device is within range and not the mobile device itself. This will reduce the power consumption of the mobile device substantially. The mobile device will than request that the beacon transmitters within range to send data pertaining to their position, and then determine its position by performing calculations based on such data.
Abstract: In general, wavelength division multiplexed (WDM) communication systems may use wavelength selective switching to aggregate and/or deaggregate groups or bands of channel wavelengths. A wavelength selective switch (WSS) band aggregator may combine a plurality of channel band aggregate optical signals to produce a combined aggregate optical signal (i.e., a transmitted WDM or DWDM signal). The WSS band aggregator may also combine one or more spectral portions of broadband noise with the bands of channel wavelengths such that the spectral portion(s) of the broadband noise occupies unutilized channels in the combined aggregate optical signal. A WSS band deaggregator may separate a combined aggregate optical signal (i.e., a received WDM or DWDM signal) to produce a plurality of channel band aggregate optical signals.
Abstract: A method of operating a mobile communication device is described. A text message is received over a wireless messaging channel, wherein the text message contains a non-text representation of an utterance. The non-text representation is extracted from the text message, and an audio representation of the spoken utterance is synthesized from the non-text representation.

Abstract: Graphical descriptor data associated with a particular video asset may include data for one or more graphical descriptor images and graphical descriptor metadata related to each graphical descriptor image. The graphical descriptor images can be simultaneously presented on a display screen with the video asset content and used to navigate to different content in that video asset. The graphical descriptors can also be used to navigate to content of one or more different assets.
Abstract: A remote control setting module which is suitable to be installed in an electronic apparatus to set a button command corresponding to a remote control signal from a remote controller is disclosed. The remote control setting module includes an infrared sensing unit and a signal processing unit. The infrared sensing unit receives the remote control signal from the remote controller and then identifies a signal waveform corresponding to remote control signal. The signal processing unit is coupled to the infrared sensing unit and used for setting the button command to correspond to the received signal waveform.

Abstract: One embodiment of the present invention provides a fault-management system. During operation, the system identifies a failure at a remote location associated with a communication service. The system then determines a local port used for the communication service, and suspends the local port, thereby allowing the failure to be detected by a device coupled to the local port.

Abstract: Embodiments of the invention may include systems and methods for sharing threaded conversations on mobile communications devices. In one embodiment, a method may include: receiving, at a service provider system, a message containing a thread file associated with a forwarded message thread from a forwarding party mobile communications device, wherein the thread file comprises message text and sender information obtained from each of multiple text messages in the forwarded message thread, and wherein the message identifies at least one new recipient; identifying the message as containing a thread file; generating and associating a unique thread identifier with the thread file; and transmitting the thread file with the unique thread identifier over a wireless network for delivery to the at least one new recipient for display of the forwarded message thread.
Abstract: In general, a wavelength division multiplexed (WDM) communication system may use wavelength selective switching to simultaneously pre-filter and combine groups of channel wavelengths with orthogonal polarizations to provide a pre-filtered, pair-wise orthogonal aggregate WDM optical signal. An orthogonally-combining wavelength selective switch (WSS) multiplexer may route channel wavelengths individually from different sets of channels to a common output. The orthogonally-combining WSS multiplexer may also provide substantially orthogonal polarizations for the wavelengths in the different sets of channels. The different sets of channels may include odd channels and even channels.
Abstract: Autonomous fractional time reuse is provided. In some embodiments, autonomous fractional time reuse includes determining a number of neighboring base stations of a base station in a heterogeneous network; and pseudo randomly selecting one or more Fractional Time Reuse (FTR) slots for transmission by the base station. In some embodiments, the one or more FTR slots are autonomously selected by the base station without coordinating the selection of the one or more FTR slots with one or more of the neighboring base stations.
