  • Patent number: 8155009
Abstract: A system for automated installation of a communication line using an optimal route between a source location and a destination location is disclosed. The system includes a routing engine providing an automated design process for rendering the optimal route. The routing engine utilizes a routing algorithm to select the optimal route from a graph of capacity links defining a plurality of possible routes between the source and destination locations. If, at any time during the design process, the optimal route or capacity links defining the optimal route are detected as unavailable for any reason, the routing engine re-initiates the design process and thereafter selects a new optimal route based upon a new capacity graph built without the previously unavailable capacity link. Once designed, the available optimal route is provided to a command and control engine, which, in turn, manages the installation of the communication line using the optimal route.

  • Patent number: 8154644
Abstract: A system for rendering a digital image includes a rendering device for rendering a digital image and a camera for capturing a sequence of images of a user. A conversion module converts the sequence of images into a manipulation command for altering the rendering of the digital image. In one embodiment, the conversion module is a lip reading module that converts a sequence of images depicting the motion of the user's facial features into text tag or visual effects command. The text tag or command may then be applied to the digital image. The digital image may be divided into portions containing principle subject matter, and a text tag or visual effects command may be generated for one or more of the image portions. A facial detection module may be employed to detect changes in the user's facial features to navigate among the image portions.

  • Patent number: 8154632
Abstract: A system and method for detecting defective pixels in a sensor. A plurality of pixel values of the sensor may be detected. The values may include those of a first pixel and each nearest neighboring pixel to the first pixel. A second pixel may have the highest value of the neighboring pixels. A third pixel may have the next highest value of the neighboring pixels. A first function may be performed on the second pixel value, producing a first output value. A second function may be performed on the third pixel value, producing a second output value. If the first pixel value is higher than the first output value, or, if the first pixel value is higher than the second output value and the second pixel value is higher than the second output value, it may be determined that the first pixel is defective.

  • Patent number: 8156407
Abstract: A method is provided for memory management in a communications system using a HARQ error control mechanism, in which a transmitter establishes a plurality of HARQ channels with a receiver. The method includes determining whether each received encoded HARQ packet needs to be combined with an encoded HARQ packet already stored in HARQ memory. In case a received encoded HARQ packet does not need to be combined, the method determines whether there is a free memory space available in the HARQ memory for storing that received encoded HARQ packet, and if so, allocating that free memory space for storage of that received encoded HARQ packet. If not, the method determines whether a certain amount of memory space can be forced to be freed, and if so, de-allocates it and then allocates it for storage of that received encoded HARQ packet, that packet is sent to an FEC decoder.

  • Patent number: 8155616
Abstract: The present invention uses metallization termination techniques to reduce the electro-magnetic field scattering at the edges of metallized areas. The metallization termination techniques provide a gradual transition from high conductivity areas to high impedance areas. The mobile phone antenna illuminates the PCB allowing currents to flow on the PCB. When the currents reach edges of the PCB they flow through a region of increasingly high impedance without reflecting back or scattering.

  • Patent number: 8156065
Abstract: A system is provided for managing a data structure based variable rules engine. The system includes a processor, a set of questions, a variables data structure comprising values and a set of variables, a results data structure comprising a set of requirements, a user interface, and a rules engine. The user interface outputs the set of questions and receives responses to the set of questions. The rules engine, when executed by the processor, assigns results to the set of variables by combining the responses with the values in the variables data structure, and determines whether the results meet the set of requirements in a results data structure. The set of questions, values, responses, and results are associated with a plurality of time frames. The user interface also outputs the results for the plurality of time frames in response to a determination that the results meet the set of requirements.

  • Patent number: 8156374
Abstract: A system is provided for problem management for outsized queues. The system includes a computer readable storage medium comprising a management component stored as a set of computer instructions executable by a processor. The management component stops transmission of inbound messages for a queue managed by a first queue manager. The management component provides a copy of the queue to a second queue manager and recreates the queue as an empty queue for the first queue manager. The management component restarts the inbound messages for the recreated queue and enables the second queue manager to manage the copy of the queue. The management component enables an application that retrieved messages from the queue to retrieve messages from at least one of the recreated queue and the copy of the queue and to promote outputting data for a requesting user application to a user interface.
