Abstract: Embodiments are described for performing a storage tier-specific file system operation in a file system that comprises a namespace that spans multiple tiers of storage. A file system command can be a tier-specific deletion of files in a multi-tier file system, or a move data operation from a first tier of storage to a second tier of storage, affecting both the first and second tier of storage. The file system command can generate a copy of the namespace for the first tier of storage and a snapshot of the data of the first tier of storage referenced in the file system operation. Functionality may be performed using one or more storage appliances, each of which can have its open processing system, memory and storage device(s). Storage tiers can include active tier, cloud tier, and remote or archive storage tier.

Abstract: An intravascular medical device is prepared for shipping by being sealed within a sterile volume of a package. Prior to closing the package, an intravenous liquid solution is pumped into and through the medical device to displace all air bubbles. The liquid is pumped at sterilization temperatures corresponding to when the liquid has a low viscosity, but the liquid is chosen to have a relatively high viscosity at room temperatures corresponding to when the package is opened for use. The liquid solution remains adsorbed to the interior surfaces of the medical device at room temperature against a force of gravity. The strategy reduces the risk of air embolism when a medical device is put into use.
Abstract: A tissue expansion device with a plurality of lobes made from non-compliant material, each lobe defining a chamber therein. Each chamber is fluidly isolated from every other chamber in the plurality of lobes. Each chamber has an inflation element with a valve to release a pressurized fluid to inflate the lobe to expand a cavity, and a deflation element with a valve to deflate the lobe by compressing the fluid.

Abstract: A technique for managing data storage places a data object in a first logical extent within a logical address space of a storage system and places a set of attributes assigned to that data object in a second logical extent within the same logical address space of the storage system. In response to a request to generate a second version of the data object, such as a snap, clone, or replica, for example, the first and second logical extents are duplicated atomically, thereby preserving a second version of the attributes along with the second version of the data object.

Abstract: An integrated transport system for an agricultural harvesting header that pivotable rotates the agricultural harvesting header from a working position to a transport position allowing the agricultural harvesting header to be transported in a substantially vertical position. The agricultural harvesting header includes at least one actuator to pivotable move the agricultural harvesting header from the working position to the transport position and at least one transport wheel. The agricultural harvesting header may be further provided with gauge wheels being repositionable for use as a the at least one transport wheel.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for coupling a soft tissue implant into a locking cavity formed within a bone is disclosed. The apparatus includes a member to pull the soft tissue implant into a femoral tunnel. The member includes a suture having first and second ends which are passed through first and second openings associated with the longitudinal passage to form a pair of loops. A collapsible tube is positioned about the suture. Application of tension onto the suture construction causes retraction of the soft tissue implant into the femoral tunnel and the collapse of the tube to form an anchor.
Abstract: A surgical fastening device provides a mechanism for manually retracting the drive shaft, drive beam, and associated components in the event of a jamming or misfiring condition. The device includes a handle housing from which an elongate shaft extends and an end effector at a distal end of the shaft. The end effector has a cartridge jaw and an anvil jaw in a pivoting arrangement. A drive shaft actuates a drive beam, which acts to drive fasteners from the cartridge jaw into tissue. The device include a first retraction mechanism configured to move linearly and proximally to retract the drive beam and drive shaft, and a second retraction mechanism that likewise is able to retract the drive beam and drive shaft.

Abstract: A control device includes a button with a body defining an outer surface; a metallic veneer coupled to the button opposite the outer surface; and a machined indicia formed in the veneer and defining an open portion, a floating portion, and one or more ribs that suspend the floating portion. The rib has an upper surface recessed relative to a front surface of the veneer, and opposed tapered sides extending from a base of the rib to the upper surface, such that the upper surface is narrower than the base.

Abstract: A flow control assembly to control flow to an area of a vehicle includes, among other things, a plurality of shutters including at least one first shutter and at least one second shutter, an actuator assembly rotatable about an axis, a first actuator link operably coupling the actuator assembly to the at least one first shutter, a second actuator link operably coupling the actuator assembly to the at least one second shutter. Rotation of the actuator assembly in a first direction moves the first actuator link to rotate the at least one first shutter in a clockwise direction from a flow restricting position to a flow permitting position. Rotation of the actuator assembly in the first direction additionally moves the second actuator link to rotate the at least one second shutter in a counterclockwise direction from a flow restricting position to a flow permitting position.
Abstract: An iron cation/sulfate alkalinization/sulfurous acid sulfide treatment method for industrial wastewaters to remove selenium and heavy metals to levels suitable for open stream discharge, land application, or power plant effluent discharge standards.
Abstract: A method, system, and engine are configured to determine a parameter based on rotational speeds of a crankshaft, over at least three cylinder combustion cycles. The method, system, and engine determine two or more estimated crankshaft rotational speeds at two or more positions in a leading cylinder combustion cycle, two or more estimated crankshaft rotational speeds at two or more positions in a middle cylinder combustion cycle, and two or more estimated crankshaft rotational speeds at two or more positions in a following cylinder combustion cycle. The method, system, and engine are configured to determine a calculated metric based on each of the determined leading estimated crankshaft rotational speeds, the determined middle estimated crankshaft rotational speeds, and the determined following estimated crankshaft rotational speeds. An engine parameter, such as misfire, is then determined based on the calculated metric.

Abstract: Devices having multiple layers of paint for enhanced thermal performance. Individual paint-layers have specific properties within specific wavelength-ranges. An exemplary device includes an emissive outer layer that has a high emissivity in a first wavelength-range to increase thermal radiation and a high transmittance in a second wavelength-range to reduce solar gain. Underneath the emissive outer layer is a color matching layer that has a high transmittance in the second wavelength-range and absorbs at least some visible light. Underneath the color matching layer is a reflective sublayer that has a high reflectivity in the second wavelength-range. EM radiation within the second wavelength-range passes through the emissive outer layer and color matching layer before being reflected by the reflective sublayer back into the atmosphere. Thus, solar gain is reduced due to the solar energy within the second wavelength range being reflected off of the device—rather than absorbed as thermal energy.
