Abstract: Embodiments are directed to communicating with and controlling operation of electronically-controlled appliances. In one scenario, a computer system receives a first input from a computing system indicating that an electronically-controlled appliance is permitted to communicate with a cloud computing platform. The computer system generates a notification that is to be sent to a software application, where the software application is configured to control functions of the electronically-controlled appliance. The computer system transmits the generated notification to the software application, where the generated notification indicates that the cloud computing platform is communicably connected to the electronically-controlled appliance.
Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a device that includes a light source, a detector; and a film having a first surface that includes a transition metal dichalcogenide, where the film is configured to interact with a volume of gas containing a concentration of water vapor, the light source is configured to shine a first light onto the first surface, the film is configured, as a result of the first light, to emit from the first surface a second light, the detector is configured to receive at least a portion of the second light, and the detector is configured to generate a signal proportional to an intensity of the second light.
Abstract: Methods, information handling systems and computer readable media are disclosed for a contextual image-based search. In one embodiment, a method includes receiving, at a computer implemented system for searching a knowledge base, an image submitted by a user of the system. The method continues with obtaining a classification label corresponding to the image, checking a context module database for the presence of a follow-up question associated with the classification label, and generating search term information for searching of the knowledge base, where the search term information comprises the classification label. If a follow-up question associated with the classification label is found, an embodiment further includes presenting the follow-up question to the user of the system, receiving from the user an answer to the follow-up question, modifying the search term information to include the answer, and checking the context module database for an additional follow-up question associated with the answer.
Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention provide a method, system and computer program product for optimal query scheduling for resource utilization option. In an embodiment of the invention, a process for optimal query scheduling includes receiving in an information retrieval data processing system at a contemporaneous time, a request for deferred query execution of a specified query to a future time after the contemporaneous time. The method additionally includes determining a frequency of change of data corresponding to a field referenced in the specified query. Then, on condition that the frequency of change is below a threshold value, an intermediate time prior to the future time but after the contemporaneous time can be identified and the specified query scheduled for execution at the intermediate time instead of the future time. But, otherwise the specified query can be scheduled at the future time as originally requested.

Abstract: Aspects of the disclosure relate to reducing the likelihood of injury to a passenger in a collision. In one example, a computing device may determine that an impact between a vehicle and an object external to the vehicle is imminent. The computing device may determine a protection range for a vehicle's airbag based on characteristics of the passenger, including the passenger's seating location within the vehicle. An airbag extension system may position an airbag package, including the vehicle's airbag, such that the vehicle's airbag is within the protection range of the passenger's seating location.
Abstract: An online social networking system collects data relating to members, and clusters the data into a plurality of clusters. The system identifies anomalous activity by a member in a cluster, and predicts an update to a profile of the member based on the identified anomalous activity of the member. The system presents to the member a proposed update to the profile of the member based on the prediction, receives input from the member in response to the proposed update, and updates the profile of the member based on the input received from the member.
