Abstract: The present invention provides peptide compounds that regulate the complement system and methods of using these compounds. The invention is an isolated, purified peptide of 30 amino acids derived from human astrovirus protein, called CP1. The invention is directed to peptide compounds that are peptide mimetics, peptide analogs and/or synthetic derivatives of CP1 having, for example, internal peptide deletions and substitutions, deletions and substitutions at the N-terminus and C-terminus, and that are able to regulate complement activation. The invention further provides pharmaceutical compositions of therapeutically effective amounts of the peptide compounds and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier, diluent, or excipient for treating a disease or condition associated with complement-mediated tissue damage.
Abstract: Methods, devices, and systems described herein include initiating an application stored in association with a device disposed within a vehicle and determining a user identifier of a user in the vehicle. Geographic location data may be sent to a remote system along with the user identifier. Events may be received from the remote system that are based at least in part on the geographic location data and the user identifier. The events may be displayed a selection of an interactive element of the user interface that corresponds to an event of the events may be received. The user interface may then transition from a first user interface window displaying the events to a second user interface window configured to display additional information about the event. Based at least in part on the transitioning, the additional information may be displayed via the second user interface window.

Abstract: A process for re-refining used lubricating oil (ULO), much of which is used motor oil (UMO) relies on more rapid heating, turbulent flows, higher peak temperatures, to achieve rapid thermal cracking, even including metal-bearing additives without catalysts, compared to conventional refining of crude oil and conventional recycling processing of UMO. By thermally cracking this way and scrubbing with recycled, processed liquids from the flow stream, a process readily removes metal-bearing hydrocarbons in typical lubricating oil additives. Those bonded metals consigned to heavy fraction “bottoms,” are commonly non-removable by other recycling schemes. Long chain polymers including paraffins are broken into lighter hydrocarbons with properties typical of fuels containing olefins, naphthenes, and the like. Data and analysis reveal low solids, effective metal removal, comparatively low viscosity and boiling points, and greatly reduced sulfur content in fuel and oil products resulting.
Abstract: A novel Lactobacillus rhamnosus KBL2290 strain exhibits various activities such as improving intestinal flora, anti-inflammatory, and strengthening intestinal tight junctions. The strain may increase intestinal flora of Akkermansia genus, Lactobacillus genus, Ruminococcus genus or Prevotella genus, suppress an expression of interleukin 1-beta (IL-1B), interleukin 2 (IL-2), interleukin 4 (IL-4), interleukin 12p40 (IL-12p40), interleukin 13 (IL-13), or interleukin 17A (IL-17A), suppresses an expression of chemokine ligand 2 (CCL2) or chemokine ligand 1 (CXCL1), suppress an expression of cyclooxygenase 2 (Cox-2) or nitric oxide synthase (iNOS), promote an expression of interleukin 10 (IL-10) or transforming growth factor-? (TGF-?), and increase an expression of Zo-1 or Occludin. A pharmaceutical composition including the strain may prevent or treat inflammatory bowel disease.

Abstract: A pull-down lock, may include a top cover, wherein the bottom end of the top cover is fixedly connected with the pull rod, and the bottom end of the pull rod is fixedly connected with the lock head; besides, the lock bolt component for limiting and fixing the lock head is arranged in the movable part upper cover, and the movable part base is slidably inserted into the bottom end of the movable part upper cover; the movable part base is internally provided with the pull-down component which is adapted to and penetrates through the lock bolt component. When the movable part base is pulled to move downwards, the lock bolt component could be pushed to move under the cooperation of the pull-down component, so that the limiting and fixation of the lock head is released.

Abstract: A method of heat-treating tubing is disclosed which obtains desired performance characteristics, and more particularly to a method of heat-treating tubing which minimizes undesirable tinting and oxidation of the interior surfaces of tubing during heat-treatment by controlling the atmosphere within the tubing. This is achieved by purging the interior of the tubing with an inert gas, or a like protective atmosphere, as the tubing is advanced into an associated heat-treatment furnace. Notably, the purging is effected via the trailing ends of the tubing as it introduced into the heat-treatment furnace. Additionally, the method contemplates that a vacuum can be applied to the interior of the tubes during treatment in order to draw the protective atmosphere within the furnace into the leading ends of the tubing.

Abstract: A trigger mechanism assembly for a firearm provides a horizontal arrangement of its sear relative to a trigger of the firearm by way of a linkage bar. The sear and a disconnector share a pivot point, wherein at each engagement surface between the pivot point and the sear and the disconnector, respectively, there is a bearing. A pair of mandibles is provided, one mandible by each of the sear and the disconnector. A spring is operatively associated between the sear and the disconnector to bias them to rotate about the pivot point dependently, whereby a first distance between the pair of mandibles is maintained. An inclined surface is provided along at least one mandible so that a downward force urged by a hammer against the inclined surface moves the disconnector independently of the sear, whereby a second distance between the pair of mandibles is greater than the first distance.
Abstract: A heavy-duty truck includes a cabin, a window having an upper edge region and a lower edge region, a hinge that rotatably couples the upper edge region of the window to the cabin, and a motor-driven actuator coupled to the lower edge region of the window such that actuation of the motor-driven actuator in a first direction moves the lower edge region of the window away from the cabin, thereby opening the window to an open position, and actuation of the motor-driven actuator in a second direction opposite to the first direction moves the lower edge region of the window toward the cabin, thereby closing the window to a closed position.

Abstract: A combination lock which, by means of a locking mechanism, can be transferred from a blockage position into an opening position. By means of at least three rotationally adjustable bearing sleeves, the locking mechanism is, by at least one bearing sleeve in a blocking setting of the bearing sleeve, blocked by a blocking device of the bearing sleeve so as to be prevented from being transferred from the blockage position into the opening position. By virtue of all of the bearing sleeves being arranged in a release setting, the locking mechanism is movable from the blockage position into the opening position. On each bearing sleeve, there is arranged a coding wheel which projects partially into an aperture in a front cover through which a checking setting of each of the bearing sleeves can be detected on the basis of a coding. The combination lock may be incorporated into a suitcase.
