Abstract: Polymers, such as ethylene-vinylacetate copolymer, polyvinyl alcohol or cellulose, containing amine groups or salts thereof or quaternary ammonium groups are disclosed. The polymers can be processed easily and display other interesting chemical properties such as having the particular chemical properties of the functional groups they contain. These polymers are prepared, generally by reacting a hydroxyl-containing polymer with a reactive compound which contains an available amine group.

Abstract: Bisisothiouronium salts are disclosed, which are extremely useful in the depollution of water in which the pollutants are dyestuffs and generally anionic compounds difficult to precipitate. Precipitation with bisisothiouronium salts according to the invention occurs, conversely, very easily.
Abstract: Mercury particles which are difficult to strip from sewage waters of industries employing mercury compounds, due to their extremely tiny size, can be coalesced into larger mercury drops by applying a strong magnetic field to the liquor which contains such tiny particles.
Abstract: A method is disclosed for preparing esters by reacting an olefin with an acid in the presence of oxygen and a catalyst system, the improvement consisting in that the catalyst system is a compound of tin or cerium, used in the presence of iodine or of a iodine-yielding compound. High productivities are achieved and no pollution problems are to be solved.

Abstract: In the cyclization of gamma-delta or delta-epsilon unsaturated alcohols in order to obtain certain tetrahydrofuran and tetrahydropyran derivatives which are useful in the perfuming of detergents, the improvement consisting in that the alcohol to be cyclized is reacted with a cationic ion-exchange resin. The useful temperature range is from 20.degree. C. to 150.degree. C.: in practice the alcohol and the resinare boiled together or refluxed until the reaction is completed. A number of examples is reported and physicochemical data are given.
Abstract: Novel thermoplastic materials can be obtained in which besides the resin formed by polymerizing alkenylaromatic with or without acrylic and vinylic monomers, there is also a branched interpolymer the main carbon atom chain of which has a saturated elastomeric nature, whereas the chains which make up the branch-offs have a plastic character. Side-chains on the saturated rubber, which have the same composition as the non-grafted resin, favors the even dispersion of the rubber in the resin matrix so that the physical and mechanical properties of the resin are considerably improved: an improved resistance to ageing is also achieved. A styrene-acrylonitrile resin grafted on a saturated ethylene-propylene copolymer is but an example. The preparation process is carried out in solution: critical conditions, additives, adjuvants, initiators and promoters are indicated and exemplified. Irradiation with ultraviolet rays may be of help.
Abstract: Improved shock-resistant resins are obtained by graft-copolymerizing a monomer selected from among alkenyl aromatics, vinylics, acrylics, their halogenated derivatives or admixtures of same, with maleic anhydride and/or an imide derivative of such anhydride and with a terpolymer composed by ethylene, a higher homolog of ethylene and a polyene having at least one system of conjugated double bonds.
Abstract: Bis-guanylhydrazonium and tris-guanylhydrazonium salts are disclosed, which are novel and very effective precipitants of anionic pollutants from sewage waters. Methods of preparation of such compounds and examples of their practical use are also reported.
Abstract: A method is disclosed for the preparation of salts of monoesters of the carbonic acid, the improvement consisting in that the alcohols corresponding to the esters are reacted with carbon dioxide and a compound of an alkali metal or an alkaline earth metal. A distinct advantage over the use of the alcoholates is obtained inasmuch as the reaction is less violent, side-reactions are put aside and the costs are lowered.
Abstract: A method for stripping pollutant metals from sewage waters from ore-treatment installations is disclosed, which comprises the step of using, in a short-circuited electrode system through which the waters to be purified are flowed, a compound of an element which is other than the cathode metal and is more electro-positive than the anode element. Striking results are obtained by treating vanadium-containing sewage waters from gallium-ore treatment plants with silver sulfate in a copper-iron electrode system. The method can be employed to recover other transition metals from liquors which contain them.
Abstract: The invention relates to acetylenic glycols having the formula : ##STR1## wherein R is hydrogen or an alkenyl group, and to their derivatives obtained through hydrogenation or ethoxylation reactions, these compounds showing outstanding surface active properties. The invention relates also to the process for the preparation of the subject compounds starting from 6-methyl-5-hepten-2-one.

Abstract: Novel thermoplastic elastomers are disclosed, which are based on copolyesteramides and are composed by a statistically distributed array of soft and hard molecular chains, bonded to each other by ester bonds. These thermoplastic elastomers have shown an improved resistance to heat and hydrocarbonaceous fluids such as fuels, lubricants and the like.
Abstract: In the preparation of aromatic urethans, a dialkyl carbonate is reacted with an N-acyl derivative of an amine: thus, for example, by reacting acetanilide with a lower dialkyl carbonate, such as DMC or DEC, in the presence of titanium tetraphenate (Lewis' acid), phenylmethyl urethan is obtained with a yield over 90%. No toxic reactants are used and the reaction has outstandingly high yields and conversion ratings. The urethane in question are useful as weed-killers and pesticides in agriculture.
Abstract: Aromatic urethans are prepared by reacting aromatic carbonates with aliphatic amines, within an organic solvent or not. It is preferred that a stoichiometric quantity of the amine be employed to prevent the formation of urea by-products which are likely to be formed if an excess of the amine is used. The temperature should not exceed 100.degree. C, the interval between 20.degree. and 40.degree. C being preferred. Nearly quantitative yields are obtained.
Abstract: A method is disclosed for stripping mercury from mercury-containing sludges, the improvement consisting in that the sludges are first dried and then roasted, all these operations being carried out under a subatmospherical pressure, a final condensation of the vapor phases takes place under superatmospherical pressure. A high efficiency of recovery is thus warranted.

From 0.01 to 2 parts of polymerization promoter. The temperature in the autoclave system is maintained in the range between 70.degree. and 140.degree. C during the polymerization and product is collected at a rate such that residence time in the autoclave system is between 2 and 30 hours.
