Abstract: Process for the preparation of (omega-carbalkoxy-nor.alkyl) dialkylamines having a linear alkyl chain, comprising the steps of amination of allyl compounds in which at least an allyl carbon atom is a part of a cyclopropane ring which contains one or two carboxyl or carbalkoxy groups on the carbon atom which is adjacent to the allyl carbon, or is a part of a lactone ring, in the presence of catalysts consisting of triarylphosphine complexes of palladium, or trialkyl phosphite complexes of nickel, and the subsequent hydrogenation of the unsaturated amine thus obtained. By so doing, interesting linear amines are obtained, which contain carboxyl units or carbalkoxy units, said amines being useful as additives for the industry of synthetic fibres (viscosity stabilizers for polycaprolactam).

Abstract: L-carnitine is prepared by a synthesizing process starting from D-mannitol. The synthesis is started with the formation of a D-mannitol ketonide (more specifically D-mannitol acetonide from D-mannitol and acetone, whereafter the D-mannitol is split by oxidation to give glyceraldehyde acetonide, which is further reduced to glycerol acetonide. Then the free hydroxyl group is exchanged with a halogen atom (chlorine) with the formation of chlorodihydroxy propane, the primary alcoholic group of which is functionalized with the acid chloride of a sulfonic acid (tosylchloride). The reaction of the tosyl derivative with the salt of hydrogen cyanide leads to the formation of the corresponding nitrile which, when reacted with trimethylamine gives carnitinonitrile. The nitrile group is now hydrolyzed to give L-carnitine chloride. The formation of L-carnitine can then be obtained by exchanging the chloride ion with a hydroxyl ion.
Abstract: 2,5-Dimethyl-2,4-hexadiene is prepared by dehydrating 2,5-dimethyl-2,5-hexanediol in liquid phase. The reaction takes place by contacting 2,5-dimethyl-2,5-hexanediol, melted or dissolved in an appropriate solvent, with acids, heating the mixture at a temperature of 100.degree. C.-160.degree. C. and distilling off water from the reaction environment as it is being formed. The pressure can range between 1 and 10 bars.
Abstract: A process for the hydroxylation of aromatic hydrocarbons by hydrogen peroxide, consisting in reacting said compounds in the presence of synthetic zeolites which contain heteroatoms, both replaced and exchanged. The reaction is carried out at a temperature comprised between 80.degree. C. and 120.degree. C. and in the presence of the hydrocarbon only or in the presence of a solvent which permits, at least partially, to admix the aromatic hydrocarbon with the hydrogen peroxide.

Abstract: A process for preparing hydrocarbonaceous resins from C.sub.5 fractions is disclosed in which the starting hydrocarbonaceous fraction is enriched with cis-piperylene. A catalyst system is also disclosed for the formation of the resins by polymerization and the simplest catalyst is an aluminum halide. In other embodiments, the aluminum halide is used together with a second component such as a hydrocarbyl halide and/or a halide of a metal selected from Sn, Si, B, Ti, Pb, Sb, As and others. Resins having improved physico-chemical properties are obtained.
Abstract: This application relates to a process for the homopolymerization (or copolymerization) of unsaturated compounds, particularly ethylene and higher alpha olefines, to give homopolymers (or copolymers) having a wide molecular weight distribution. The polymerization yields are very high, even at relatively low pressures (10 bars), i.e. such as not to require scrubbing in order to remove the catalytic residue from the polymer. These results are obtained by using, in union with an organometallic aluminium compound, a catalyst in the form of a new titanium trihalide-based chemical composition satisfying the following formula:TiX.sub.3.mM'Y.sub.n.qM"Y'.sub.p.cAlY".sub.3-s R.sub.

Abstract: A method for preparing a chitosan-glucan complex is disclosed, which comprises the steps of subjecting filamentary fungal masses from certain fungal species such as Allomyces, Aspergillus, Penicillium, Mucor, Phycomyces, Choanephora, Zygorrhynchus and like fungi, to a treatment with a concentrated aqueous solution of a strong alkali brought to its boiling point and for a time of from 4 to 6 hours. This treatment removes a number of undesirable components since a deacetylation of chitin occurs, the soluble components being concurrently removed.Foaming substances, if present, may be removed by a preliminary treatment with a solution of strong alkalies, with a lower concentration than that of the solution used for chitin deacetylation. The products thus obtained lend themselves well to the preparation of columns capable of retaining certain compounds or elements, e.g. transition metal ions and can be used for flocculation reaction, in chromatographic reactions and many other uses.
