Patent number: 11178575Abstract: When performing a contention protocol, such as Listen-Before-Talk (LBT), an Long Term Evolution (LTE)-Licensed Assisted Access (LAA) node dynamically adapts the ED threshold used by the LTE-LAA node depending on whether other transmission nodes are detected at the frequency components that are to be used by the LTE-LAA node. In one implementation, the ED threshold value may initially be set to a conservative value, and when other transmissions nodes are not detected, the ED threshold value may be set to a more aggressive value. In another implementation, the ED threshold value may initially be set to a more aggressive value, and only when another transmission node is detected, the ED threshold value may be set to a more conservative value. In yet another possible implementation, the ED threshold value and the transmit power may be proportionally modified, for a particular UE, based on a parameter associated with the UE.Type: GrantFiled: January 17, 2020Date of Patent: November 16, 2021Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Abhijeet Bhorkar, Laurent Cariou, Hwan Joon Kwon

Patent number: 11177566Abstract: An electronic device may be provided with a dielectric cover and a phased antenna array for conveying millimeter wave signals. A conductive pocket may be mounted to the cover. The pocket may include a conductive rear wall and conductive sidewalls that extend from a periphery of the rear wall to the cover. The array may be mounted to the rear wall and may convey signals through the cover. The sidewalls may extend from the cover at non-zero angles with respect to the normal axis of the cover. The shape of the pocket and the cover may be selected so that the pocket is non-resonant at frequencies handled by the array, to mitigate destructive interference within the pocket, to block surface waves from propagating along the cover, and to tweak the radiation pattern of the array to exhibit a desired shape and directionality.Type: GrantFiled: February 15, 2018Date of Patent: November 16, 2021Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Jiangfeng Wu, Lijun Zhang, Siwen Yong, Yi Jiang, Mattia Pascolini

Patent number: 11176196Abstract: In some implementations, a computing device may perform a method for providing a unified pipeline for media metadata to converge disparate schemas and data structures into a global unified graph. The method includes receiving media metadata from disparate media sources that may each have a different metadata schema that defines the structure and attributes of the metadata provided by each media source. The computing device may compare media metadata received from the different media sources to determine that metadata received from the different media sources correspond to similar, or the same, media entities (e.g., songs, movies, books, etc.). The metadata for the similar media entities may then be combined into a global unified graph that may include metadata attributes and/or values of the metadata received from the various media sources.Type: GrantFiled: February 12, 2019Date of Patent: November 16, 2021Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Ashish Sharma, Han Jia, Jianqing Sun, Philip Edward Lamond, Darren Seeto, Edward J. Patent number: 11175817Abstract: An electronic device with a display concurrently displays a device status region, and an application user interface that includes a content region and an application input field. While concurrently displaying the device status region and the application user interface, the device receives first input in the application input field. In response, the device concurrently displays respective content in the content region in accordance with the first input, and first text that corresponds to the first input in the application input field. While concurrently displaying the respective content and the first text, the device detects a second input that corresponds to a request to scroll the respective content in a first direction. In response, the device scrolls the respective content in the first direction, ceases to display the application input field, and displays, adjacent to the device status region, the first text.Type: GrantFiled: July 20, 2020Date of Patent: November 16, 2021Assignee: APPLE INC.Inventors: Nicholas Zambetti, Chanaka G. Patent number: 11176237Abstract: In some embodiments, a first device performs ranging operations to allow a user to access the first device under one of several user accounts without providing device-access credentials. For example, when a second device is within a first distance of the first device, the first device determines that the second device is associated with a first user account under which a user can access (e.g., can log into) the first device. In response to the determination, the first device enables at least one substitute interaction (e.g., a password-less UI interaction) to allow the first device to be accessed without receiving access credentials through a user interface. In response to detecting an occurrence of the substitute interaction, the user is allowed to access the first device under the first user account. In some embodiments, the substitute interaction occurs while the first device is logged into under a second user account.Type: GrantFiled: June 1, 2018Date of Patent: November 16, 2021Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Wade Benson, Alexander R. Patent number: 11178547Abstract: Techniques for identity-based message integrity protection and verification between a user equipment (UE) and a wireless network entity, include use of signatures derived from identity-based keys. To protect against attacks from rogue network entities before activation of a security context with a network entity, the UE verifies integrity of messages by checking a signature using an identity-based public key PKID derived by the UE based on (i) an identity value (ID) of the network entity and (ii) a separate public key PKPKG of a private key generator (PKG) server. The network entity generates signatures for messages using an identity-based private key SKID obtained from the PKG server, which generates the identity-based private key SKID using (i) the ID value of the network entity and (ii) a private key SKPKG that is known only by the PKG server and corresponds to the public key PKPKG.Type: GrantFiled: March 5, 2019Date of Patent: November 16, 2021Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Xiangying Yang, Shu Guo, Lijia Zhang, Qian Sun, Huarui Liang, Fangli Xu, Yuqin Chen, Haijing Hu, Dawei Zhang, Hao Duo, Lanpeng Chen

Publication number: 20210349609Abstract: In some implementations, a computing device can simulate a virtual parallax to create three dimensional effects. For example, the computing device can obtain an image captured at a particular location. The captured two-dimensional image can be applied as texture to a three-dimensional model of the capture location. To give the two-dimensional image a three-dimensional look and feel, the computing device can simulate moving the camera used to capture the two-dimensional image to different locations around the image capture location to generate different perspectives of the textured three-dimensional model as if captured by multiple different cameras. Thus, a virtual parallax can be introduced into the generated imagery for the capture location. When presented to the user on a display of the computing device, the generated imagery may have a three-dimensional look and feel even though generated from a single two-dimensional image.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 19, 2021Publication date: November 11, 2021Applicant: Apple Inc.Inventors: Gunnar Martin Byrod, Jan H. Bockert, Johan V. Hedberg, Ross W. Anderson

Publication number: 20210352512Abstract: In some implementations, a computing system can perform crowd sourced access point mapping using privacy preserving techniques. For example, a server device can receive access point data reports from multiple user devices that includes various attributes and/or measurements with respect to access points with which the user devices have established connections. The access point data reports can be delivered without identifying the user devices, or users thereof, and their exact locations. Based on the access point data reports, the server device can map locations of access points and relationships between access points to generate network topologies, network locations, network quality scores, and various other characteristics of networks and/or access points. The generated access point data can be served to user devices so that the user devices can improve the efficiency of the interactions between user devices and the detected access points and/or networks.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 22, 2021Publication date: November 11, 2021Applicant: Apple Inc.Inventors: Rachid Kachemir, Krishna M.
