Patent number: 11171685Abstract: Some embodiments include a system and method for enabling communicating Ultra Wideband (UWB) devices to collaborate by exchanging pulse shape information. The UWB devices use the pulse shape information to improve ranging accuracy. The improved ranging accuracy can be used in complex multipath environments where advanced estimation schemes are used to extract an arriving path for time-of-flight estimation. To determine the pulse shape information to be shared, some embodiments include determining location information of a UWB device and selecting the pulse shape information that satisfies regional aspects. The pulse shape information includes a time-zero index specific to a ranging signal that is used by UWB receivers to establish timestamps time-of-flight calculations. Some embodiments include measuring performance characteristics and selecting different pulse shape information based on the performance characteristics for improved accuracy.Type: GrantFiled: February 12, 2020Date of Patent: November 9, 2021Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Joachim S. Patent number: 11169585Abstract: Systems, methods and mechanisms for efficiently reporting sensor data of multiple processing units. In various embodiments, a computing system includes processing units and a power management unit. The processing units include multiple sensors for measuring a variety of types of sensor data. If the sensor values exceed corresponding thresholds, then a processing unit sends the sensor values to the power management unit. Logic in the power management unit stores received sensor values. When the logic determines behavior of a processing unit changes, the logic updates one or more sensor thresholds for the processing unit for changing a frequency of reporting one or more sensor values of the processing unit. The logic sends the updated one or more sensor thresholds to the processing unit. The logic updates more operating modes and operating states for the processing units based on the received sensor values.Type: GrantFiled: August 16, 2019Date of Patent: November 9, 2021Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Achmed R. Patent number: 11172553Abstract: An accessory strobe device for a mobile device may operate to provide illumination at the same time as an internal built-in strobe (flash) of the mobile device. The accessory strobe device may receive a single, unidirectional signal from the mobile device that provides signals related to the timing of the internal strobe. The accessory strobe device may process the received signal to control its illumination using the timing and relative intensity levels of the internal strobe during metering and main (normal) flash operations associated with a camera on the mobile device. With the accessory strobe device operating using timing and relative intensity levels in a predetermined relationship with the timing and relative intensity levels of the internal strobe, the accessory strobe device may be used to complement the internal strobe during the metering and main (normal) flash operations for the camera.Type: GrantFiled: August 27, 2020Date of Patent: November 9, 2021Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Richard L. Patent number: 11171464Abstract: Described herein are one or more methods for integrating an optical component into an integrated photonics device. The die including a light source, an outcoupler, or both, may be bonded to a wafer having a cavity. The die can be encapsulated using an insulating material, such as an overmold, that surrounds its edges. Another (or the same) insulating material can surround conductive posts. Portions of the die, the overmold, and optionally, the conductive posts can be removed using a grinding and polishing process to create a planar top surface. The planar top surface enables flip-chip bonding and an improved connection to a heat sink. The process can continue with forming one or more additional conductive layers and/or insulating layers and electrically connecting the p-side and n-side contacts of the laser to a source.Type: GrantFiled: December 13, 2019Date of Patent: November 9, 2021Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Michael J.
