Patent number: 10770977Abstract: Systems and methods for operating improved flyback converters are disclosed, in which leakage energy is returned to the input power source rather than to the output load, while still achieving zero voltage switching (i.e., ZVS) operation. In some embodiments, the improved converters may transfer the energy stored in the leakage inductance to a snubber capacitor(s) at the instant of turning off of the control switch. Further, the improved converter embodiments may also retain the stored energy in the snubber capacitor(s) when the power is being delivered to the load by the secondary circuits. The improved converter embodiments may start the transfer of leakage energy stored in the snubber capacitor(s) to the primary winding once the energy stored in the transformer is delivered to the load. Finally, the improved converter embodiments may intelligently control their active clamp switches such that all leakage inductance energy is returned to the input source.Type: GrantFiled: March 27, 2019Date of Patent: September 8, 2020Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventor: Vijay Phadke

Patent number: 10768979Abstract: Described is a framework (or technique or method) and system for providing a distributed computing network including different types of devices. The framework allows peer devices to transmit “packages” of information (e.g. messages) throughout the network as conceptual units of a job or data. The framework allows portable code, which is used to perform one or more jobs, to be transportable between peer devices. A device may transmit portable code describing a computation to another device, and the receiving device may then compile the code into executable form that is compatible with the architecture of the particular device. The compiled code may execute functions to perform one or more computations to fulfill job requests as part of a distributed computing protocol.Type: GrantFiled: September 23, 2016Date of Patent: September 8, 2020Assignee: APPLE INC.Inventor: Oliver M. Patent number: 10767927Abstract: This application relates to a portable electronic device including a processor and an operational component assembly, the operational component assembly including a frame. The frame carries a sensor that is coupled to the frame, where the sensor is capable of (i) receiving an environmental stimulus, and (ii) subsequently, generating an environmental parameter based on the environmental stimulus. The operational components further include a speaker that includes a magnetic driver that is capable of generating a magnetic field in response to receiving the instructions, and a diaphragm that is capable of actuating in response to the magnetic field being generated by the magnetic driver. An opening is disposed at an external surface of the frame such that when an amount of moisture is present within the volume, the magnetic driver receives the instructions from the processor to generate a magnetic field that actuates the diaphragm so as to expel the moisture.Type: GrantFiled: January 18, 2019Date of Patent: September 8, 2020Assignee: APPLE INC.Inventors: Brian A. Patent number: 10769385Abstract: A text string with a first and a second portion is provided. A domain of the text string is determined by applying a first word-matching process to the first portion of the text string. It is then determined whether the second portion of the text string matches a word of a set of words associated with the domain by applying a second word-matching process to the second portion of the text string. Upon determining that the second portion of the text string matches the word of the set of words, it is determined whether a user intent from the text string based at least in part on the domain and the word of the set of words.Type: GrantFiled: November 29, 2018Date of Patent: September 8, 2020Assignee: APPLE INC.Inventor: Gunnar Evermann

Patent number: 10771697Abstract: Techniques are disclosed for managing image capture and processing in a multi-camera imaging system. In such a system, a pair of cameras each may output a sequence of frames representing captured image data. The cameras' output may be synchronized to each other to cause synchronism in the image capture operations of the cameras. The system may assess image quality of frames output from the cameras and, based on the image quality, designate a pair of the frames to serve as a “reference frame pair.” Thus, one frame from the first camera and a paired frame from the second camera will be designated as the reference frame pair. The system may adjust each reference frame in the pair using other frames from their respective cameras. The reference frames also may be processed by other operations within the system, such as image fusion.Type: GrantFiled: September 6, 2017Date of Patent: September 8, 2020Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Paul M. Patent number: 10771422Abstract: The disclosed embodiments include a method for providing interactive notification elements. A device receives a first message and displays a first notification element in a first area of a user interface. The first notification element includes information about the received first message. While displaying the first notification element, the device receives a second message. In response, the device determines whether the second message is associated with the first message. When the second message is associated with the first message, the device displays a second notification element in the first area. The second notification element includes information about the received second message.Type: GrantFiled: January 8, 2018Date of Patent: September 8, 2020Assignee: APPLE INC.Inventors: Matthew E. Patent number: 10771669Abstract: Sensor data produced in a multi-sensor environment is time synchronized, such as using a master time. A component that derives the master time transmits a signal to a first sensor of the multi-sensor environment, which signal indicates the master time. The component subsequently receives a signal from the first sensor, which signal indicates a first time determined by the first sensor based on the master time and a latency associated with the first sensor. The first time indicates a time of an event associated with the first sensor data. A determination is then made that the first sensor data corresponds to second sensor data produced using a second sensor of the multi-sensor environment based on the first time and a second time indicating a time of an event associated with the second sensor data.Type: GrantFiled: September 10, 2018Date of Patent: September 8, 2020Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Koussalya Balasubramanian, Paul A. Patent number: 10771987Abstract: Embodiments of a User Equipment (UE) to operate in accordance with a physical random access channel (PRACH) are disclosed herein. The UE may comprise hardware processing circuitry to determine a coverage enhancement category for the UE based on downlink channel statistics related to reception of downlink signals at the UE from an Evolved Node-B (eNB) and an uplink-downlink imbalance parameter related to uplink reception at the eNB. The hardware processing circuitry may be further to select, for use in a coverage enhancement mode, a PRACH preamble from a set of candidate PRACH preambles based on the determined coverage enhancement category for the UE. In some embodiments, at least some of the candidate PRACH preambles may span a different number of sub-frames.Type: GrantFiled: March 26, 2018Date of Patent: September 8, 2020Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Konstantinos D. Patent number: 10769669Abstract: A media channel can include a mix of media items and invitational content items. At some point during the playback of the media channel an invitational content item can be presented. In some cases, the invitational content items eligible for presentation can be of differing types, such as video and audio. In can be advantageous to restrict presentation of video invitational content items to times when a user is likely to view the screen of the client device during playback of the invitational content item. To accomplish this one or more heuristics or rules can be applied to client device data to predict a user attention level. The user attention level can then be correlated to an invitational content item type, which can then be used to select an invitational content item for playback.Type: GrantFiled: July 26, 2016Date of Patent: September 8, 2020Assignee: APPLE INC.Inventors: Donald W.
