Patent number: 10772015Abstract: This disclosure relates to techniques for a link budget limited UE to improve communications performance with a cellular network. The UE may perform signal to interference noise ratio (SINR) measurements and use these measurements to adjust a received signal power value that is provided to the cellular network as a received signal power measurement. The UE may generate the received signal power value based at least in part on the SINR measurement in order to reduce the likelihood of handover when the UE has good SINR but poor received signal power. The UE may also provide preferred configuration information to the base station which enhances the performance of the UE when link budget limited. The configuration information may specify one or more parameter values designed to provide improved performance for a link budget limited device.Type: GrantFiled: July 17, 2018Date of Patent: September 8, 2020Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Tarik Tabet, Farouk Belghoul, Samy Khay-Ibbat, Sarma V. Patent number: 10769065Abstract: Systems, apparatuses, and methods for efficiently moving data for storage and processing a compression unit within a processor includes multiple hardware lanes, selects two or more input words to compress, and for assigns them to two or more of the multiple hardware lanes. As each assigned input word is processed, each word is compared to an entry of a plurality of entries of a table. If it is determined that each of the assigned input words indexes the same entry of the table, the hardware lane with the oldest input word generates a single read request for the table entry and the hardware lane with the youngest input word generates a single write request for updating the table entry upon completing compression. Each hardware lane generates a compressed packet based on its assigned input word.Type: GrantFiled: June 10, 2019Date of Patent: September 8, 2020Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Ali Sazegari, Charles E. Patent number: 10771898Abstract: Systems, methods, devices and non-transitory, computer-readable storage mediums are disclosed for location-tracking wireless devices. In an embodiment, a method performed by an electronic device comprises: playing, or initiating the playing of, a sound through a loudspeaker of an accessory device via a communication link. The sound is played at a specified frequency that utilizes a frequency response of the loudspeaker (or loudspeaker plus speaker enclosure). The sound is received through two or more microphones of the electronic device and filtered by one or more filters. The one or more filters are configured to pass the sound at or around the specified frequency and to reduce masking of the sound by ambient noise. The filtered sound is associated with direction data generated from sensor data provided by one or more inertial sensors of the electronic device. In another embodiment, the specified frequency is higher than the maximum human hearing range.Type: GrantFiled: September 29, 2017Date of Patent: September 8, 2020Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Sorin V. Patent number: 10768738Abstract: Disclosed herein are electronic devices having piezoelectric haptic actuators to generate haptic output. The haptic actuators can be configured as a beam with a bendable material layer and a piezoelectric material layer the cause the beam to bend. The bending force can be increased by coupling a magnet to the beam and positioning a ferritic plate near the magnet. Alternatively, a ferritic plate can be attached to the beam, with the magnet positioned apart from, but near, the plate. The haptic actuator can have a two-sided piezoelectric configuration, having a piezoelectric layer on each side of the bendable material layer. A two-sided piezoelectric configuration can have a second magnet and ferritic plate pair on a side of the beam opposite the first. Patent number: 10771946Abstract: The described embodiments transfer an activity from a source electronic device to a companion electronic device. The source electronic device receives activity information describing an activity performed in a first application at the source electronic device, determines an activity identifier for the activity information, and broadcasts an activity advertisement comprising the activity identifier. Upon receiving the activity advertisement, the companion electronic device determines whether a second application that is associated with the first application is available at the companion electronic device. If the second application is available, the companion electronic device requests extended activity data from the source electronic device. The source electronic device responds by sending extended activity data from the first application to the companion electronic device.Type: GrantFiled: January 23, 2019Date of Patent: September 8, 2020Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Christopher S. Patent number: 10769415Abstract: A device with a camera may utilize an enrollment process to capture images of an authorized user to enroll the user for a facial recognition authorization process. The enrollment process may include one or more processes that identify if an identity of the authorized user (e.g., the subject of the enrollment process) has switched during the enrollment process. The processes may include detection and verification of the switch in identities by comparing features of subjects in images as the images are captured during the enrollment process. If the identity of the subject is determined to be switched from the authorized user during the enrollment process, the enrollment process may be restarted. Additionally, clustering of feature vectors from the enrollment images may be used to remove outlying feature vectors that may be generated from one or more images of a subject other than the authorized user.Type: GrantFiled: August 31, 2018Date of Patent: September 8, 2020Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Eslam A. Patent number: 10768746Abstract: Improved sensing can include modified sampling and/or processing to improve performance against noise due to environmental variations and interference. In some examples, improved interference rejection can be achieved by sampling a sensor multiple times during settled periods. In some examples, the excitation signal and sampling window can be dynamically adjusted to satisfy drift and/or interference specifications based on various operating conditions or the operating environment. In some examples, drift performance can be traded off to improve interference performance. In some examples, improved immunity to environmental variations can be achieved by equalizing sensor outputs in accordance with characterization of the sensing system. In some examples, improved performance can be achieved by sampling the sensor continuously and using an optimized window function to improve performance against noise.Type: GrantFiled: May 9, 2017Date of Patent: September 8, 2020Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Vivek Pant, Sumant Ranganathan, Moshe Malkin
