  • Patent number: 11774548
Abstract: The disclosure provides systems, apparatuses, and techniques for operating automotive MIMO radars in crowded multi-path environments to obtain reliable detections by linearly predicting whether a bistatic condition occurred. To avoid saturating computing resources processing bistatic detections, the described techniques enable a radar system to quickly identify and discard from the field-of-view radar detections that are likely a result of bistatic conditions. By ignoring unusable radar returns that are likely a result of bistatic conditions, an example radar system can focus on processing radar returns from static conditions, for example, in providing radar-based detections as output to an automotive system that is driving a vehicle in an autonomous or a semi-autonomous mode. In so doing, the example radar system provides a highly accurate static object detector that is sufficiently quick in detecting bistatic conditions for use in vehicle-safety systems as well as autonomous and semi-autonomous control.

  • Patent number: 11777423
Abstract: A method for determining a movement of a rotor of an electric motor, comprises supplying a drive signal to a drive coil of the electric motor, sensing a coil current of the drive coil, detecting current ripples of the sensed coil current caused by the rotor of the electric motor crossing ripple generating positions, inferring the movement of the rotor from the detected ripples, braking the motor by reducing the drive signal supplied to the drive coil from an initial signal value to zero according to a braking curve specifying a non-zero fall time during which the drive signal is reduced from the initial signal value to zero. The braking curve is adapted so that the rotor does not cross a ripple generating position after the drive signal has been reduced to zero.

  • Patent number: 11772619
Abstract: The techniques and systems herein enable estimated-acceleration determination for AEB. Specifically, for a potential collision, a determination is made as to whether the target of the potential collision is likely to be stopped prior to the potential collision (e.g., due to its own braking). One of a plurality of estimated-acceleration functions is then selected based on whether the target is likely to be stopped prior to the potential collision. Using the selected estimated-acceleration function, an estimated acceleration to avoid the potential collision is calculated. By selecting different estimated-acceleration functions based on whether targets are likely to be stopped prior to potential collisions, more-accurate estimated accelerations may be generated, thus enabling better collision avoidance and/or avoiding unnecessarily strong braking.

  • Patent number: 11767028
Abstract: This document describes change detection criteria for updating sensor-based maps. Based on an indication that a registered object is detected near a vehicle, a processor determines differences between features of the registered object and features of a sensor-based reference map. A machine-learned model is trained using self-supervised learning to identify change detections from inputs. This model is executed to determine whether the differences satisfy change detection criteria for updating the sensor-based reference map. If the change detection criteria is satisfied, the processor causes the sensor-based reference map to be updated to reduce the differences, which enables the vehicle to safely operate in an autonomous mode using the updated reference map for navigating the vehicle in proximity to the coordinate location of the registered object.

  • Patent number: 11768284
Abstract: A detection system includes a radar-unit and a controller-circuit. The radar-unit is configured to detect objects proximate a host-vehicle. The controller-circuit is in communication with the radar-unit and is configured to determine a detection-distribution based on the radar-unit. The detection-distribution is characterized by a longitudinal-distribution of zero-range-rate detections associated with a trailer towed by the host-vehicle. The controller-circuit is further configured to determine a trailer-classification based on a comparison of the detection-distribution and longitudinal-distribution-models stored in the controller-circuit. The trailer-classification is indicative of a dimension of the trailer. The controller-circuit determines a trailer-length of the trailer based on the detection-distribution and the trailer-classification.

  • Patent number: 11762060
Abstract: Techniques and apparatuses are described that implement height-estimation of objects using radar. In particular, a radar system, which is mounted to a moving platform, receives reflection signals that represent versions of a radar signal that are reflected off of objects. The radar system generates a range-elevation map based on raw data from the reflection signals, identifies an elevation bin and a range bin in the range-elevation map that corresponds to a selected object, and calculates a height for the selected object based on the range and elevation bins. The radar system then calculates a de-noised height for the selected object based on one or more previously calculated heights for the selected object. In this way, the radar system can determine accurate heights of objects at sufficiently long ranges for evasive action.
