  • Patent number: 4802627
Abstract: Disclosed are modified spray guns, particularly electrostatic spray guns, for implementation of the vaporous amine catalyst spray method disclosed in U.S. Pat. No. 4,517,222. In particular, the present invention broadly is directed to a spray gun for spraying atomized liquid, e.g. vapor permeation curable paint, with the assistance of a vaporous amine flow via an amine flow path established in the spray gun wherein the improvement comprises a control apparatus actuable in the absence of the vaporous amine flow to cause a heated non-amine gas, preferably heated air, to flow through and purge the amine flow path within the gun for maintaining a desired flow path temperature adequate for suppressing amine condensation in the flow path. The spray gun can be a hand spray gun or an automated spray gun utilizing air atomization or mechanical atomization, operating under electrostatic spray conditions if desired.
