Abstract: Disclosed is a feature for a vehicle that enables taking precautionary actions in response to conditions on the road network around or ahead of the vehicle, in particular, an intersection located at the bottom of a hill. A database that represents the road network is used to determine locations where an intersection of roads is located at the bottom of a hill. Then, precautionary action data is added to the database to indicate a location at which a precautionary action is to be taken about the intersection of roads located at the bottom of a hill. A precautionary action system installed in a vehicle uses this database, or a database derived therefrom, in combination with a positioning system to determine when the vehicle is at a location that corresponds to the location of a precautionary action. When the vehicle is at such a location, a precautionary action is taken by a vehicle system as the vehicle is approaching an intersection located at the bottom of a hill.

Abstract: The present invention is directed to a particular arabinoxylan (“AX”) preparation and the finding that this preparation has a beneficial effect on the organization of the intestinal microbial community in the lumen and in particular at the site of the gut mucosa, where it modulates the barrier function of the intestinal surface, primarily by modulating the mucosa-associated microbial community towards a relative increase of health beneficial bacteria, such as bifidobacteria and lactobacilli. It is accordingly a first aspect of the present invention to provide said arabinoxylan preparation characterized in comprising isolated water-soluble arabinoxylans and the use thereof to improve functioning (e.g. barrier function) of the intestinal epithelium.

Abstract: Disclosed are exendin-3 or exendin-4 derivatives modified with biotin, a preparation method thereof and a pharmaceutical composition containing the same. More specifically, disclosed are exendin-3 or exendin-4 derivatives in which the lysine residue of exedin is modified with biotin. The disclosed exendin-3 or exendin-4 derivatives modified with biotin show biological activity similar to that of native exendin and at the same time, have increased in vivo stability and are easily absorbed through the mucosa. Thus, biotin-modified exendin-3 or exendin-4 derivatives are useful for treating diseases, which can be caused by the excessive secretion of insulin, the lowering of plasma glucose, the inhibition of gastric or intestinal motility, the inhibition of gastric or intestinal emptying or the inhibition of food intake. Particularly, the biotin-modified exendin-3 or exendin-4 derivatives are useful for the treatment of diabetes, obesity and irritable bowel syndromes.

Abstract: The invention pertains to a biocompatible composition, suitable for use in soft or hard tissue augmentation, wherein the composition is an aqueous suspension containing a carrier fraction of ceramic particles of less than 15 ?m and an augmentation fraction of ceramic particles of at least 20 ?m. The ceramics typically include calcium phosphate. The composition is a may be used in soft tissue repair as well as hard bone replacement. It advantageously avoids the need for foreign body materials which are conventionally applied to stabilize augmentation suspensions.

Abstract: The invention provides hydroxybupropion analogues capable of inhibiting the reuptake of one or more monoamines and/or acting as antagonists at nicotinic acetylcholine receptors. The compounds may selectively bind to one or more monoamine transporters, including those for dopamine, norepinephrine, and serotonin and/or may selectively bind to one or more nicotinic acetylcholine receptor subtypes. Such compounds may be used to treat conditions that are responsive to modification of monoamine levels and/or antagonism of nicotinic acetylcholine receptors, including drug dependency, depression, and obesity.

Abstract: Methods for production of highly unsaturated fatty acids by marine microorganisms, including the heterotrophic marine dinoflagellate Crypthecodinium, using low levels of chloride ion are disclosed. Specifically, methods of increasing production of highly unsaturated fatty acids by marine microorganisms while growing in low chloride media by manipulating sodium ion and potassium ion levels. The invention also relates to methods of production of highly unsaturated fatty acids by marine organisms at low pH levels, and includes methods for generation of low pH tolerant strains.

Abstract: A monohull offshore vessel includes a hull having a moonpool and a pipe storage. A multipurpose tower is mounted on the hull at the moonpool, and a pipe handling system is provided for handling pipes to be used with the multipurpose tower. The pipe handling system includes a gantry beam provided at opposite ends thereof with guides for interacting with horizontal guide tracks extending along opposite sides of the pipe storage for movement along the pipe storage. The guides supporting the gantry beam extend beyond the pipe storage, such that the pipe handling system can cover parts of the vessel other than the pipe storage to transport pipes and/or other objects.

Abstract: A magnetic recording system configured for recording to a bit patterned media using both hypertrack recording and shingled recording. The magnetic recording system includes a write pole with a notched trailing edge that results in a write bubble with a trailing edge that has two outer convex lobes separated by a centrally disposed concave region. By locating one of the lobes over first and second data tracks of a hypertrack, a proper alignment of the relative phase of the two tracks can be maintained. Further adjustment to the alignment can be achieved by adjusting the radial location of the write head.
