Abstract: Syringes are disclosed herein incorporating a variety of safety mechanisms for protecting the users from accidental needle stick. In certain embodiments, the syringes incorporate retractable carriages that can be retracted into the syringe barrels by engaging with the plungers. The carriages are configured to receive different needle hubs having any number of needle sizes. In certain other embodiments, the carriages are spring loaded so that as the plungers disengage the carriages from the syringe barrels, the springs automatically retract the needles into the barrels. Still in certain other embodiments, needle hubs with spring loaded needles are used with the syringes. The needles are retracted into the barrels when the plungers activate certain mechanisms incorporated into the hubs to thereby release the needles.
Abstract: The invention deals with the control of a resonant LLC converter by setting up criteria for state parameters of the resonant converter, so that the converter may be operated in a near capacitive mode. The current flowing in the resonant tank and optionally the voltage at the a predetermined point in the resonant tank are monitored, and wherein a switch (a high side switch or a low side switch) is turned off when a first criterion is fulfilled together with a second criterion or optionally a third criterion, the first criterion ensuring a minimum time has lapsed after the switch is turned on, the second criterion being that the absolute value of the current is reaching a predetermined current level, the third criterion being that the voltage at the predetermined point reaches a predetermined voltage level.
Abstract: A fluid handling structure is disclosed in which the size and arrangement of the fluid extraction openings is specified in order to reduce the vibrations which are transmitted to the fluid handling structure as a result of two-phase extraction. The area of each fluid extraction opening and/or the total area of all of the fluid extraction openings and/or the space in between neighboring fluid extraction openings may be controlled. The reduction in vibrations increases the accuracy of the exposure.

Abstract: According to the invention, a process for the rectification of mixtures of high-boiling air- and/or temperature-sensitive substances which require a high separation efficiency is proposed, in particular a process for the working-up of a VE- or VEA-containing product stream. The process is characterized in particular in that, in a first purification stage, low-boiling products and unspecified isomers of the useful product are separated from the product stream virtually without loss of useful product and that, in a second purification stage, the useful product is removed in a stream having a purity of >97% by weight and a further stream having a purity of >92% by weight. A preferred embodiment of the process serves for working up VEA, in which the loss of useful product in the first purification stage is less than 5%, based on that amount of VEA in the feed which is added to the purification stage per unit time.

Abstract: Improved, solid water-soluble fertilizer (WSF) compositions are presented which comprise at least one acid (optionally nutritive) and at least one basic fertilizer component. In one or more embodiments of the present invention, the WSF compositions demonstrate improved solubility of one or more nutrients or additives in solution, do not require additional dissolution aids or anti-caking agents, demonstrate fast dissolution times, produce precipitate free solutions, are readily compounded without intermediate wetting or drying steps, do not generate gas, and demonstrate improved stability under typical usage conditions. Finally, the WSF compositions may be used in improved processes for the creation of stock solutions, optionally with cold water, and/or delivery of nutrients to plants.

Abstract: A system and method for providing fault detection capability is provided which comprises a first node (2). The first node (2) comprises a first processing subsystem (5) generating data (14) to be transmitted. The first node (2) has a fault supervisor unit (13) adapted to gather and process fault indications arising in the first node (2). The first processing subsystem (5) and the fault supervisor unit are both integrated in the first node (2). The first node (2) is structured such that, when no fault indications are detected by the fault supervisor unit (13), the fault supervisor unit (13) provides a first key (15) as a validity key, and, when at least one fault indication is detected by the fault supervisor unit (13), the fault supervisor unit (13) provides a second key (16) as the validity key, and the data (14) to be transmitted are encrypted by overlaying the respective validity key (15; 16) on the data.

Abstract: A method, apparatus and program storage device for providing an advanced material management center is disclosed. A segregated delivery delay/component buffer area is maintained at a manufacturing site for holding material before transfer to the manufacturer. The content of the buffer area is owned by the supplier. Materials may be provided to the buffer area by a just-in-time warehouse or by a supplier. The quantity of any particular material at the buffer area is smaller than normally held at the just-in-time warehouse or provided by a supplier and therefore requires much less storage space. However, the buffer area provides quick availability to inventory and allows for improved maintenance and availability of inventory.
Abstract: A method of producing lane information for use in a map database is disclosed. In at least one embodiment, the method includes acquiring one or more source images of a road surface and associated position and orientation data, the road having a direction and lane markings parallel to the direction of the road; acquiring road information representative of the direction of said road; transforming the one or more source images to obtain a transformed image in dependence of the road information, wherein each column of pixels of the transformed image corresponds to a surface parallel to the direction of said road; applying a filter with asymmetrical mask on the transformed image to obtain a filtered image; and producing lane information from the filtered image in dependence of the position and orientation data associated with the one or more source images.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and to a device for injection molding plastic material, wherein the starting plastic material to be treated is first subjected to a pretreatment, wherein the plastic material is heated in a receiving container at a temperature below the melting temperature while constantly being mixed, and thereby at the same time is crystallized, dried and/or cleaned and/or the intrinsic viscosity thereof is increased. According to the invention, the plastic material pretreated in this way is transferred into a screw injection molding machine (10) having a screw (16) rotating in a housing (17) and being axially displaceable therein and/or acting as a piston, is plasticized in said screw, and molded into a molded part, for example a preform.

The process is particularly useful for preparing gas separation composite membranes.
Abstract: Disclosed herein are exendin singly modified with polyethylene glycole or a derivative thereof, a method for the preparation of the same, and uses thereof. Exendin modified at lysine (27) with polyethylene glycol shows biological activity similar to that of natural exendin, but is improved in half life. In addition, the modification position and the number of PEG or its derivative are restricted so as to minimize the side effects caused by a variety of combinations of such factors. The exendin is useful in the prevention and treatment of diseases caused by the over-secretion of insulin, or diseases caused due to a decrease in plasma glucose level, the inhibition of gastric or intestinal motility, the promotion of satiety, or the inhibition of food intake, especially diabetes, obesity and irritable colon syndrome.
