Abstract: A container for transport and storage of liquids comprises a pallet and a metal cage of standard dimensions. The container comprises also an inner bag made of plastic material, an outer envelope disposed between the inner bag and the metal cage, and fastened to the metal cage. The inner bag is not fastened to the outer envelope and is configured to be filled to unfold from an empty condition, in which the inner bag is in a flattened and folded configuration to a filled condition, in which the inner bag is in a parallelepipedal and unfolded configuration, having a volume corresponding substantially to the volume of the housing of the cage and being surrounded by the outer envelope and the metal cage.

Abstract: The present invention embraces a multimode optical fiber that includes a central core having an alpha-index profile, an inner cladding, a depressed trench, and an outer cladding (e.g., an outer optical cladding). Typically, the central core's alpha-index profile has a minimum refractive index at the central core's radius that corresponds to a refractive index difference with respect to the outer cladding. The optical fiber achieves reduced bending losses and a high bandwidth with a reduced cladding effect for high-data-rate applications.

Abstract: Methods of forming polycarbonate graft copolymers are provided. In particular, a polycarbonate polymer or copolymer containing allyl groups provides the backbone for the graft copolymer, and pendant chains are attached to the copolymer through the allyl groups. The graft copolymers exhibit a combination of high transparency, good graft levels, good scratch resistance, and/or good anti-fog properties.

Abstract: A particle-capturing device. The particle-capturing device includes a component having a surface that is configured to be disposed inside an enclosure, and is configured to make contact with an air-stream carrying particles within the enclosure. The component includes an electrostatic particle-capturing portion that includes a dielectric electrically insulating portion, and a plurality of charged portions. The charged portions are embedded in the dielectric electrically insulating portion, and are configured to generate an electrostatic field coupled with the surface that captures the particles from a flow of the air-stream and confines the particles at the surface. In addition, the component is configured to provide at least one additional function within the enclosure exclusive of capturing particles.

Abstract: A disk drive with patterned-media disks has information recorded in the servo sectors that identifies misplacement of the data islands in the data regions between the servo sectors. This misplacement information is read from the servo sectors prior to writing to correct either or both the radial position of the write head and the timing of the write pulses to the data islands. The misplacement information may include radial deviation of the data tracks, circumferential or along-the-track misplacement of the data islands, or the location of defective data islands.

The method includes storing a program block to a disk area such that the program block is associated with a second area for storing the program block that is not utilized for a read operation from the disk area. The method also includes storing a program block that is associated with a first area to an area that includes at least a portion of the second area in the EEPROM such that the first area contained a program block that is utilized for a read operation from the disk area. In addition, the method includes changing the program block in the first area after storing to the second area. Moreover, the method includes storing to the second area the program block that is not utilized for a read operation from the disk area after storing to the first area.

Abstract: An immersion lithographic projection apparatus has a liquid confinement structure configured to at least partly confine liquid to a space between a projection system and a substrate, the confinement structure having a buffer surface, when in use, positioned in close proximity to a plane substantially comprising the upper surface of the substrate and of a substrate table holding the substrate, to define a passage having a flow resistance. A recess is provided in the buffer surface, the recess, when in use, being normally full of immersion liquid to enable rapid filling of a gap between the substrate and substrate table as the gap moves under the buffer surface. The recess may be annular or radial and a plurality of recesses may be provided.

Abstract: A data transport bundle is presented that is a package of wireless data transport created by a mobile communication network provider. The data transport bundle is available for sale by the mobile communication network provider to enterprises that wish to use wireless data transport. The data transport bundle may include the duration, number of allowed transactions, size associated with each allowed transaction and a price associated with the data transport bundle. The mobile communication network provider may configure the data transport bundle so that it may be partitioned into multiple smaller data transport bundles. In addition, the components of the data transport bundle, such as the duration, number of allowed transactions, and size associated with each allowed transaction may be adjustable to satisfy services for which the enterprise purchases the data transport.

Abstract: An impact dissipation tool for supporting a downhole tool in downhole applications. The tool includes a base and a housing. The tool also includes a carriage located within the housing and coupled to the base, the carriage being movable relative to the housing upon a predetermined impact force. A dissipator disposed inside the housing is collapsible due to the relative movement of the carriage and the housing. The collapse of the dissipator dissipates the impact force transferred to the downhole tool.

Abstract: Barley based beverages are produced in large quantities, employing highly energy consuming methods, for example in the malting and brewhouse facilities for kiln drying and wort boiling operations, respectively. The present invention relates to energy saving methods for preparing barley based beverages, as well as to barley plants useful in such methods. In particular, the invention describes barley plants with combined traits of null-lipoxygenase-1 (null-LOX-1), null-lipoxygenase-2 (null-LOX-2) and null-S-adenosylmethionine:methionine S-methyltransferase in one plant, which is particularly useful for energy saving methods to prepare barley based beverages, such as beer.
