Abstract: Novel aqueous dispersion comprising 7-diethylamino, 4-methyl coumarine or 7-dimethylamino, 4-methyl coumarine in combination with one or more suitable dispersants, humectants and defoamers are disclosed, as well as a method for preparing these.

Abstract: Compounds useful for improving the intra-film binding of micaceous particulates in films formed from coating compositions which contain such micaceous particulates comprise urethanes or ureas which are the reaction products of silylalkyl- or silylaryl isocyanates with blocked or unblocked alcohols, aminoalcohols, or polydiol alcohols. The compounds may also be the reaction products of silylalkyl- or silylarylamines with half-blocked diisocyanates which are themselves the reaction products of a diisocyanate with a blocked or unblocked alcohol, aminoalcohol, or polydiol alcohol.Micaceous particulates which have been surface modified by reaction with these compounds, as well as coating compositions comprising such surface-modified micaceous particulates, and coated substrates are also disclosed.

Abstract: It has been found that a magnetic tape which may be used in particular for video recording and which has excellent abrasive and cleaning properties for all those parts of the cassette or rather the recording and play-back unit which come into contact with the magnetic layer can be obtained by addition of a non-magnetic powder having a Mohs' hardness of at least 9 and a primary particle size of 0.3 to 2 .mu.m to the magnetic pigment, which has a BET surface of at least 26 m.sup.2 /g, in the magnetic dispersion, the magnetic layer of the magnetic tape having an Ra value of less than 0.02 .mu.m. The best results were obtained with cubic Al.sub.2 O.sub.3 particles added in a quantity of 1.1 to 4.4% by weight, based on the magnetic pigment.

Abstract: A 3-substituted 2-hydroxy-3-formylpropionic ester of the formula I ##STR1## where R.sup.1 is lower alkyl, and R.sup.2 is straight-chain or branched alkyl of 1 to 10 carbon atoms, is obtained by adding an alkanal of the fomrula II ##STR2## and an alkyl glyoxylate of the formula III ##STR3## simultaneously to a catalyst system composed of a salt or a mixture of a secondary amine and a carboxylic acid in such a way that the temperature does not exceed 90.degree. The 2-hydroxy-3-formylpropionic eater of the formula I can be converted by treatment with dehydrating agents, especially acetic anhydride, into good yields of the corresponding 3-substituted 3-formylacrylic ester.

Abstract: A process for the production of a multi-layer paint coating in which base paints are employed which contain 5 to 20% by weight of crosslinked polymer microparticles, 2 to 15% by weight of a cellulose ester and 5 to 20% by weight of an epoxidized fatty acid ester, the weight percentages relating to the total content of nonvolatile constituents, excluding pigments and inorganic fillers, and the cellulose ester being so selected that a solution of 15 parts by weight of the cellulose ester in 85 parts by weight of a 9:1 mixture of acetone and ethanol at 23.degree.
