Abstract: The invention relates to a soluble, crosslinkable acrylate copolymer which is obtainable by copolymerization of more than 3 to 30% by weight of monomers having at least two polymerizable, olefinically unsaturated double bonds, from 5 to 50% by weight of monomers having a cross-linkable group, with the exception of hydroxyl groups and carboxyl groups, and from 20 to 92% by weight of further monomers having a polymerizable, olefinically unsaturated double bond, the sum of the monomers being 100% by weight. The invention furthermore relates to processes for the preparation of acrylate copolymers and coating agents based on the acrylate copolymers according to the invention.
Abstract: Dye mixtures useful for dyeing or printing synthetic fabrics contain at least one azo dye whose diazo component is 2-amino-3,5-dicyano-4-methylthiophene and whose coupling component comes from the 2-amino-4-thienylthiazole series and also at least one azo dye whose diazo component is 2-amino-3,5-dicyano-4-methylthiophene, 2-amino-3-alkoxycarbonyl-5-cyano-4-methylthiophene or 2-amino-5-alkoxycarbonyl-3-cyano-4-methylthiophene and whose coupling component comes from the 3-cyano-4-methyl-2,6-diaminopyridine series, and/or at least one azo dye whose diazo component is a 2,6-dicyano-4-alkylaniline and whose coupling component comes from the m-phenylenediamine series.

Abstract: The preparation of 1-hydroxyimidazoles of the formula I ##STR1## where the R radicals can be identical or different and are each halogen or an organic radical, it also being possible for vicinal radicals to be connected to form an aromatic or nonaromatic ring of from 3 to 12 carbon atoms, and n is from 0 to 3, entails reacting an imidazole of the formula II ##STR2## where Q is preferably hydrogen or, especially where R is not halogen, an alkali metal or alkaline earth metal cation, with an organic peroxide.The products are valuable intermediates for organic syntheses.
Abstract: An impact-resistant thermoplastic molding material which contains, based in each case on A+B, from 80 to 50% by weight of a hard matrix A of polystyrene having a molecular weight M.eta. of from 150,000 to 200,000 and from 50 to 20% by weight of a soft phase B which is uniformly distributed in the hard matrix and has a median particle diameter d.sub.50 (volume average) of from 1 to 10 .mu.m, and can be obtained by polymerizing styrene in the presence of an elastomeric grafting base, advantageously has a molecular weight of the grafted branches of from 1.1 to 1.35 times the molecular weight of the hard matrix, and the degree of grafting is from 50 to 100%.

Abstract: The homopolymerization and copolymerization of ethene are carried out using a Ziegler catalyst system consisting of(1) a transition metal catalyst component,(2) an organoaluminum catalyst component and(3) an organohalogen catalyst component.In the homopolymerization or copolymerization, the solid-phase product (VI) used as (1) is the product which has been obtained by a method in which (1.1) first (1.1.1) an inorganic oxidic substance (I) as the carrier and (1.1.2) a solution (II) of (IIa) a certain oxahydrocarbon and (IIb) a vanadium trichloride/alcohol complex and (IIc) a silicon or boron compound are combined with formation of a suspension (III), the latter is evaporated down to form a solid-phase intermediate (IV), and (1.2) then (1.2.1) the intermediate (IV) obtained in (1.1) and (1.2.2) a dissolved organoaluminum compound (V) are combined with the formation of a suspension, the solid-phase product (VI) obtained as the suspended substance being the transition metal catalyst component (1).

Abstract: A polystyrene polymer as well as an expandable polystyrene formulation comprises a polystyrene polymer having a particular molecular weight distribution. The polymer itself exhibits a polydispersity of from about 1 to less than 2.0, a weight average molecular weight of greater than about 200,000 to about 300,000, and an M.sub.z :M.sub.n of from about 2 to less than about 3.0. Furthermore, the polystyrene polymer is branched to from 0 to less than 5 weight percent.The expandable polystyrene formulation comprises a polystyrene polymer exhibiting a polydispersity of from about 1.0 to less than 2.5, a weight average molecular weight of from greater than about 180,000 to about 300,000, an M.sub.z :M.sub.n of from about 2 to about 4.5. The polystyrene polymer is present in an amount of from about 94.5 weight percent to about 98 weight percent, based on the total weight of the formulation, and the polystyrene polymer is branched to from 0 to less than 5 weight percent.

Abstract: A method for making low density (0.8-1.1 lb/cu.ft.) expanded polymeric products uses blowing agent in an amount of only from 2 to 4.4 weight percent and aging periods of from 1 to 80 hours after each expansion step. The process uses 2 to 5 expansion steps and a polymer having a particular polydispersity, weight average molecular weight and M.sub.z :M.sub.n, this polymer having a greater expandability than conventional polymers. The process requires only about half of the amount of blowing agent currently being used in commerically viable processes for making expanded polystyrene products. The process can be used with or without a molding step.
