Abstract: Magnetic recording media which have a thin backing coating and consist of a non-magnetic flexible base and a magnetic layer which is applied to one side of the base and comprises magnetic material finely dispersed in an organic binder are produced by applying a dispersion of finely divided non-magnetizable conductive and non-conductive solids and conventional additives in a solution of a polymeric binder in an organic solvent to that side of the base which is opposite the magnetic layer by means of a knife-coater, and then drying the layer, a high molecular weight organic compound which acts as a thickener being added to the backing coating dispersion.

Abstract: In batteries or electrochemical stores, in particular secondary cells, the active material of the cathode and/or the anode consists of one or more electrically conductive polymers which have an electrical conductivity greater than 10.sup.-2 Ohm.sup.-1 cm.sup.-1 and contain electrochemically oxidizable and/or reducible redox groups which have a defined structure and are capable of forming two or more stable oxidation states which preferably are reversibly interconvertible.
Abstract: An apparatus for the preparation of bonding fibers, especially for the production of nonwovens by a wet-lay process, wherein a polymer dispersion, containing an anionic or nonionic dispersant, and an aqueous solution, containing a dissolved cationic precipitant, are combined to cause fiber formation from precipitated polymer particles, which apparatus includes a feed funnel spaced above the bottom of a homogenization vessel with both a nozzle for introducing the polymer dispersion and a metering device for the precipitant, which are so arranged and aimed into the funnel that in co-operation with a stirrer a vortex is produced in a column of liquid in the feed funnel, and fibers are formed and broken up while passing through a turbulence chamber, located at the bottom of the funnel, and a gap into a homogenization chamber.

The preferred composition may advantageously include a skin treating agent, and conventional adjuvants.
Abstract: A process for consolidating the surface of a granular adsorbent, wherein thermoplastic crosslinkable bonding fibers are applied from aqueous suspension, the water taken up by the adsorbent is evaporated off and the bonding fibers adhering to the surface of the adsorbent are crosslinked by heating. The adsorbent thus treated has virtually the same adsorption and desorption properties as the untreated adsorbent, but exhibits substantially improved abrasion resistance.

Abstract: Olefinically unsaturated compounds are continuously hydroformylated under from 2 to 30 bar and at from 80.degree. to 130.degree. C. using, as a catalyst, a rhodium complex which contains, as ligands, sparingly volatile compounds of the general formula I ##STR1## where A is phosphorus, arsenic, antimony or bismuth and R.sup.1, R.sup.2 and R.sup.3 are each organic radicals, by a method in which the hydroformylation mixture consisting of liquid and gaseous components is removed from the reactor and is subjected to relatively high temperatures and/or relatively low pressures for a short time in a devolatilization column, the mixture at the same time being separated into a gas phase and a liquid phase, the gas phase is separated into the product and the recycle gas in a separator, and the recycle gas and the liquid phase from the devolatilization column are recycled to the reactor.

Abstract: The subject invention relates to a vitamin C powder prepared by (a) spray drying an aqueous slurry of ascorbic acid and binder in the presence of an absorbent in amounts such that the resulting powder will contain at least 90 percent by weight of ascorbic acid, no more than 9 percent by weight of binder, from 0.2 to 2 percent by weight of absorbent; and blending from 0.2 to 5 percent by weight of a lubricant into the powder prepared by step (a). Preferably microcrystalline cellulose and mixtures of microcrystalline cellulose and hydroxypropylmethycellulose are used as the binder. The resulting sugar and starch free vitamin C powder prepared by this process will be free flowing, have an ascorbic acid content of at least 90 percent by weight, be color stable under use conditions, will contain a lubricant, and is directly compressible into tablets which have acceptable hardness, friability, color stability, and disintegration times.
