Abstract: Secondary batteries with aqueous acid solutions of lead salts as electrolytes and inert electrode base plates also contain redox systems in solution. These systems have a standard potential of from -0.1 to +1.4 V relative to a standard hydrogen reference electrode, do not form insoluble compounds with the electrolytes and are not oxidized or reduced irreversibly by the active compositions applied to the electrode base plates, within their range of operating potentials.
Abstract: Filled nylon molding compositions of increased rigidity containing red phosphorus as a flameproofing agent and talc or mica as a filler. They may be converted to moldings which are used, above all, in the electrical industry.

Abstract: Magnetic recording media, the magnetic coating of which consists of a dispersion of elongated ferromagnetic chromium dioxide particles in an organic binder, the dispersions exhibiting particularly good storage stability. This is achieved by admixing 0.5 to 6% by weight, based on the amount of chromium dioxide pigment, of the zinc salt of an aliphatic carboxylic acid of 8 to 18 carbon atoms, during the manufacture of the chromium dioxide dispersions. Chromium dioxide dispersions with good storage stability and a high degree of orientation of the elongated magnetic particles in the magnetic coating are thus obtained in a simple manner.

Abstract: An electronic time base error correction technique in which the color video signal is recorded so that in playback in at least one channel sync information is provided along with the luminance information and the color burst information along with the chrominance information. Feedback loops are provided to derive from the sync information coarse-correction of the video signal and derive from the burst information fine-correction of the video signal. The color burst extends over the entire blanking interval.Three different approaches are specifically disclosed: in the first, coarse- and fine-correction are carried out in two tandem connected stages, respectively. In the second, coarse- and fine-correction are accomplished in the same stage by means of a bi-level phase comparator. The third approach is a modification of the second approach, in which the first and second techniques have been combined.

Abstract: Liquid and solid compositions are provided for souring and imparting softness to freshly laundered textile materials. When in the form of a stable homogeneous liquid, the composition may contain (a) a quaternized fatty amide, an aqueous emulsion of partially oxidized polyethylene or a fatty amphoteric compound as the softening agent, (b) hydrofluorosilicic acid, ammonium silicofluoride, zinc silicofluoride, ammonium acid fluoride, potassium acid fluoride, or orthophosphoric acid as the souring agent, and (c) water. When in the form of a stable dry solid, the composition may contain (a) a quaternized fatty amide or fatty amphoteric compound as the softening agent, and (b) ammonium silicofluoride, potassium silicofluoride, sodium silicofluoride, zinc silicofluoride, ammonium acid fluoride, sodium acid fluoride or potassium acid fluoride. A method of preparing the liquid composition is provided which insures that it remains stable and homogeneous while awaiting use.

Abstract: Membranes for use in chlor-alkali cells, made of a copolymer of tetrafluoroethylene and sulfonylfluoride perfluorovinyl ether, have their selectivity improved, with resulting substantial decrease in consumption of electric power per mole of sodium hydroxide produced, by being heat-treated at 100 to 275.degree. Centigrade for several hours to four minutes. The current efficiency is substantially increased, and the power consumption, per unit of sodium hydroxide produced, is usually decreased by about 10 percent or more.

Abstract: New substituted 1-alkenynyl-cyclohexanols and 1-alkenynyl-cyclohexenes. The 1-alkenynyl-cyclohexanols are obtained by reacting the corresponding cyclohexanone witn an enyne in the presence of a strongly basic condensing agent in an inert solvent, or with an alkali metal salt of an enyne in an inert solvent. The 1-alkenynyl-cyclohexenes are obtained by dehydrating the 1-alkenynyl-cyclohexanols or 1-cycloalkanolyl-alkynols. The new compounds are themselves interesting scents, but can also be used as starting materials for further interesting scents.
Abstract: A process for the manufacture of ethylene polymers by homopolymerization and copolymerization of ethylene at pressures of from 500 to 5,000 bars and at from 50.degree. to 450.degree. C, with subsequent isolation of the polymers in high pressure product isolation zones and low pressure product isolation zones. The various parallel product isolation zones are at different temperatures, and the mean product residence times in the zones may be identical or different. Very different products, in amounts which can be chosen according to requirements, and with mutually independent polymer properties, can be obtained using only one high pressure polymerization system.
