Abstract: A disk to be coated on both sides in rotatively supported within an annular housing of a larger internal diameter. Means traverse and coat each side of the rotating disk. The inner housing wall is disposed transversely to the disk and has an annular slot operatively associated with the disk whereby excess coating material is spun off the disk and into the housing. The housing is radially of a triangular cross-section, the apex offset from said disk whereby said spun off material strikes an inclined internal wall surface of the housing. Means orbit a plurality of such disks about a central axis and through a plurality of movable treating stations.

Abstract: A thickened acid cleaner concentrate composition comprising an inorganic acid, e.g., hydrochloric, an organic acid, e.g., oxalic, a nonionic surfactant, an anionic surfactant, a flocculating agent such as iron or aluminum ion and water is useful in cleaning vehicles such as railroad equipment. The waste water is then treated by flocculation and separation to remove suspended solids and entrained BOD prior to discharge or re-use within the plant. The flocculating agent in the composition provides a proportional pretreatment of the waste to facilitate the final treatment and separation of waste in the used composition.

Abstract: 2-Amino-3,5-dinitrobenzamide is manufactured by nitration of isatoic anhydride with a nitrating mixture of a particular composition at from -20 to +80.degree. C, followed by reaction of the resulting acid phase with ammonia. The product is a starting material for the manufacture of dyes and pesticides.
Abstract: New 12-alkoxy-3,7,11-trimethyl-dodecatetraenes are of interest as perfume and flavor materials having a mandarin and orange effect. The new compounds can be manufactured relatively simply, e.g. by vinylating or ethynylating the corresponding new, but easily accessible, 7-alkoxy-6-methyl-hept-5-en-2-ones and subsequently partially hydrogenating the products, reacting the resulting allyl alcohols with acetoacetic acid esters or diketenes at an elevated temperature, again vinylating or ethynylating the alkoxyketones obtained, then partially hydrogenating the products, and eliminating water from the 12-alkoxy-3,7,11-trimethyl-3-hydroxy-dodecatrienes thus obtained.
Abstract: An improved process for the manufacture of cyclohexanone oxime by reacting cyclohexanone with an aqueous hydroxylammonium-ammonium sulfate solution at temperatures above the melting point of cyclohexanone oxime by the countercurrent process, the improvement consisting in that the reaction is carried out in the absence of solvents and neutralizing and/or buffer salts at pHs of up to 0.5 until equilibrium is reached, the oximes resulting during the reaction being separated from the aqueous phase and the aqueous phase being extracted with cyclohexanone and then subjected to steam distillation.

Abstract: In the oxidation of propylene to acrylic acid in the gas phase in two spatially separate oxidation stages, a part of the off-gas, which has been freed from condensable products, is fed to the oxidation stages in addition to freshly charged propylene and air, under the following conditions:A. The recycled off-gas and air are in part fed to the first oxidation stage and in part to the second oxidation stage,B. The molar ratio of propylene : oxygen : residual gases fed to the first stage is 1 : 1.5-2.3 : 11-19,C. The molar ratio of the total propylene fed in, to the total oxygen fed in, in the form of air or off-gas, before and after the first stage, and to the total residual gases fed in is 1 : 1.9-2.5 : 13-25, with the proviso thatD. The air and the recycled off-gas are divided between the two feed points in such a way that from 10 to 50% by volume of the total quantity of air and off-gas fed in are added after the first stage andE.

Abstract: Thermoplastic polyesters having a melt viscosity of more than 6,000 poise, as measured at 250.degree. C, and a relative solution viscosity of more than 1.6, as measured on a 2:1 mixture of phenol/o-dichlorobenzene at 25.degree. C, composed of aliphatic and/or cycloaliphatic diols on the one hand and dicarboxylic acids or esters thereof on the other hand and of from 0.1 to 10% molar of an aliphatic diol containing at least one olefinic double bond and/or of an aliphatic dicarboxylic acid containing at least one olefinic double bond or an ester thereof, said olefinic double bond not being directly adjacent to the carboxyl or ester groups. The polyesters are manufactured by melt polycondensation of diols with dicarboxylic acids or esters thereof, which polycondensation is carried out for at least some of the time at a temperature above 220.degree. C and preferably above 230.degree. C, the reaction being carried out in the presence of from 0.

Abstract: An improvement in the process of catalyst removal in the preparation of polyether polyols is achieved by adding a critical amount of water from about 1 to about 5 percent by weight based on the weight of polyol to an adsorbent synthetic magnesium silicate-polyol mixture followed by filtration to remove the adsorbent.
Abstract: Rigid cellular foams are prepared by catalytically condensing an organic polyisocyanate in the presence of (a) a carbodiimide-promoting catalyst, (b) a trimerization catalyst, and (c) a polyfurfuryl alcohol polymer. The resulting foam compositions are characterized by carbodiimide and isocyanurate linkages and exhibit improved friability and flame retardancy.

Abstract: The invention relates to a magnetic tape cassette and a tape recorder for use with such a cassette. More specifically, the invention relates to the provision of movable holding means within the cassette, which means -- in a first position -- prevent unwinding of the packs of tape and thus hold the magnetic tape taut and -- in a second position -- release the packs and the magnetic tape for operation in conjunction with guide, scanning and driving means on the recorder. The said holding means are in the form of spring elements which engage teeth in the hubs to prevent the packs from unwinding. In a special embodiment, the holding means are in the form of flat members, one on each side of the packs between the side surfaces thereof and the upper and lower walls of the cassette, individual springs being provided which resiliently support said members relative to the wall of the cassette and permit movement of said members from a first, pack-locking position to a second, pack-releasing position.
