  • Patent number: 3959815
Abstract: This invention relates to methods or circuit arrangements for compensating time base error in recording systems, particularly video recording systems, by electro-mechanical and electronic means. The circuit arrangements provide for separation of the horizontal synchronizing pulses from the video information contained in a signal coming from a recorded video tape, comparison of the phase of these horizontal synchronizing pulses to the phase of a reference pulse, and adjustment of the frequency of the horizontal synchronizing pulses which go to the video receiver to eliminate time base error.

  • Patent number: 3959553
Abstract: The invention relates to magnetic discs in which first a non-magnetic intermediate layer and then the magnetic coating are applied by conventional methods to an aluminum disc. The intermediate layer applied to the non-magnetic metallic carrier disc is a hard non-magnetic coating which can be polished and which consists of a dispersion of a pulverulent mixture of finely divided inorganic non-magnetic pigments having a Mohs' hardness of at least 7 in a binder which can be cured and which provides firm cohesion of the pigment particles and good adhesion thereof to the non-magnetic base disc, the pigment mixture containing at least 3 percent by weight of corundum powder having a particle size of from about 1 to 20.mu.u. Magnetic discs with very thin magnetic coatings which possess good magnetic and mechanical properties and whose thickness varies only minimally are thus produced in a simple manner.

  • Patent number: 3957922
Abstract: An oxyalkylated product useful for making polyurethane foams is prepared by reacting an alkylene oxide with a heated mixture of a phenol and a non-phenolic active hydrogen compound, at least one of which can be halogenated, in the presence of a catalyst complex of a phenol and an iron or aluminum substance. The mixture can also include a neutral phosphorus compound and/or acid anhydrides to enhance flame retardant properties. Optionally, also, the oxyalkylation reaction can be terminated by adding a tri (lower alkyl) amine and alkylene oxide to react with residual phenolic hydrogen in the mixture.

  • Patent number: 3958272
Abstract: A video tape recorder wherein the video signal is recorded on the tape as a frequency-modulated signal. The video recorder comprises a transport for the tape which is constructed suitably for reversing the direction of tape movement during signal recording and reproducing. The video signals are successively transduced on or from longitudinally extending parallel tracks on the tape. Initiating of the reverse movement of tape is improved by the use of a special high frequency signal. Said frequency also could be higher than the upper frequencies which can still be transduced by the used magnetic head at playback. Easily manufactured circuits are provided for the highly accurate detection of the special high frequency signal. Said frequency should be in a higher frequency range than the highest frequency of the video signals, more exactly above the white level of the video signals.
