Abstract: Homopolymers of 4-methylpentene-1 are prepared by homopolymerization of 4-methylpentene-1 at a temperature above room temperature, in the presence of hydrogen and in contact with a Ziegler/Natta catalyst system. The polymerization is carried out at a relatively very high temperature and in the presence of an inert gas, the polymerization system being under a specific total pressure, while the partial pressures of the inert gas and the hydrogen have specific values. In this way, homopolymers having large crystalline fractions are obtained in high yields per unit of catalyst system per unit time.

Abstract: Acid-modified toluene diisocyanate is used to prepare rigid cellular foams characterized by carbodiimide linkages either by a one-shot process or a quasi-prepolymer process. The use of acid-modified toluene diisocyanate exhibits a more controllable reactivity with a one-shot foaming process and more stable quasi-prepolymers when using such systems.

Abstract: A synchronizing scheme for use in color video recording systems which employs two voltage controlled oscillators, the first being phase locked to the color burst of the incoming video signal in recording, but operating as a freerunning oscillator on playback, and the second being locked to the horizontal sync of the incoming video signal in recording and of the jitter-affected off-tape video signal in playback. The first oscillator, through the medium of frequency dividers, generates the color subcarrier and supplies the motor and servo references to the recorder, and the second oscillator serves as a clock for a sync generator producing a sync pattern. This sync pattern is used for controlling the impressing of fresh sync information on the video signal in recording, and the reinsertion of the color burst in the off-tape signal in playback, and also for providing the trisequential driving pulses required by the trisequential color processing circuitry.

Abstract: An improvement in the process for the manufacture of 1-amino-2-alkoxy-4-hydroxyanthraquinones by reaction of primary, saturated, linear or branched aliphatic alcohols, which may contain further substituents, with 1-amino-2-phenoxy-4-hydroxyanthraquinone or 1-amino-2-methoxy-4-hydroxyanthraquinone in the presence of alkaline reagents, which consists in carrying out the reaction in the presence of polyethylene glycols of molecular weight above 150. The presence of the polyethylene glycol facilitates the reaction and as a result high yields of reaction product are obtained even with alcohols which react incompletely, if at all, in prior processes.

The products are starting materials for the manufacture of synthetic resins, plastics, textile auxiliaries, plant protection agents and dyes.

Abstract: Composites based on polyurethane foams heat sealed to a substrate are prepared from polyurethane foams employing a graft polyol as a component of the foam-forming reaction mixture. The resulting composites possess exceptional bonding strength.

Abstract: The production of 3-methylpentane-1,5-diol by hydroformylation of 2-methylbut-1-en-4-ol with carbon monoxide and hydrogen at elevated temperature and superatmospheric pressure in the presence of a rhodium carbonyl complex which has been modified by a tertiary organic phosphine followed by hydrogenation of the 2-hydroxy-4-methyltetrahydropyran at elevated temperature and superatmospheric pressure in the presence of a hydrogenation catalyst.

Abstract: Aqueous pigment formulations containing glycol and having good flow, good water retention and good flocculation resistance which contain dipropylene glycol as a flow improver. The formulations are particularly suitable for pigmenting aqueous polymer dispersions and textile pigment printing and dope dyeing.

Abstract: Aqueous polyester imide dispersions are prepared by allowing molten polyester imide to solidify and then comminuting it in the dry state to a particle size of 100 .mu.m or less, whereupon the particles are milled in water to a particle size of less than 5 .mu.um. The dispersions may be used for the manufacture of heat-resistant bonds and impregnations and for electrical insulation of metallic conductors. m.

The pure maleic anhydride is withdrawn laterally and the aqueous condensate is recycled to the offgas scrubber.
