  • Patent number: 4727479
Abstract: An allocation system for the use of a data processing system where plural user systems of the data processing system gain access to parallel busses of the data processing system in a sequential manner based on a priority determination. The priority determination involves an allocation circuit for each user that includes a logic network comprising four bistable flip-flops, an edge triggered D flip-flop and a monostable flip-flop. The flip-flop elements in conjunction with a generated request signal, bus approval signal, bus busy signal, bus claim signal, selection duration signal, compare signal, enable signal and greater or equal signal and appropriate AND, NAND, OR and inverter elements determine the winner or next user when plural user requests are received while the bus is busy. The use of the edge triggered D flip-flop allows a user subsequent immediate access if such user wants the bus again and no other user has requested the bus.

  • Patent number: 4726843
Abstract: Aluminum alloy, suitable for rapid quenching from a melt supersaturated with alloy components, which contains 2 to 5.5% by weight of Cr and 2 to 5.5% by weight of V, the remainder being Al, and may contain further added amounts of Mo, Zr, Ti or Fe, individually or in combination, up to a total content of not more than 1% by weight, the total content of all alloy elements being no more than 10% by weight. The simultaneous occurrence of the phases Al.sub.13 Cr.sub.2 and Al.sub.10 V in silid solution and as hardness-imparting dispersoids having a particle diameter of not more than 0.1 .mu.m results in good high-temperature strength and thermal stability coupled with good ductility and toughness of the material. The comparatively Low Vickers hardness of, on average, only about 130 (HV) for the rapidly solidified alloys initially obtained make the powders readily processable. After the heat treatment, the Vickers hardness of the workpiece reaches values up to about 200 (HV).

  • Patent number: 4723525
Abstract: The pressure wave supercharger of the internal combustion engine has a diaphragm capsule (20) for controlling the supercharge air butterfly (14). The diaphragm (21) of the diaphragm capsule is, in operation, subjected on the butterfly side to the high pressure air in the high pressure air duct (2) and on the other side to the pressure at the protrusion 27 or in the compression pocket (5), via a control pressure line (26; 28). These pressures typical of the process vary with the speed of the cell rotor and control the setting of the supercharge air flap as a function of the speed and loading condition of the engine.

  • Patent number: 4723099
Abstract: A drive for a high-voltage isolating switch includes a shaft which acts on a moving contact of the isolating switch, a flywheel which is connected via a coupling to the shaft, a drive motor for energizing the flywheel before a switching process begins and a control circuit. The control circuit is used for determining the direction of rotation of the drive motor during the energizing process and for automatically switching the drive motor from a motor to a generator operation, during a period when the movable contact is to be moved. The motor is preferably a series-wound motor which provides high operational reliability. A rectifier is connected in the current path between the rotor and stator windings of the motor. The rectifier stabilizes the current direction in the stator winding during the switching-over phase of the drive motor from motor to generator operation.

  • Patent number: 4722469
Abstract: Components made of a dispersion-hardened superalloy are connected together by pressure bonding, the individual parts previously processed at their bonding surfaces only by milling, without fine machining such as grinding, electro-polishing, etc., being subjected before bonding to a heat treatment in the temperature range of between 60.degree. C. and 210.degree. C. below the recrystallization temperature for the purpose of reducing the driving force. During the subsequent coarse-grain heat treatment of the bonded workpiece, no sort of fine crystalline banding occurs in the bonding zone and the strength of the workpiece corresponds to that of the material before bonding.

  • Patent number: 4719746
Abstract: The high pressure compressor part of a gas turbine installation having a high pressure, a medium pressure and a low pressure part (21 and 22, 23) of the gas turbine is provided by a pressure wave machine in which the high pressure gas is generated by self-ignition of liquid or gaseous fuel, which is injected or blown into the cell rotor in the region of the low pressure air port from the fuel nozzles in a casing of the pressure wave machine. The self-ignition occurs as a detonation when the fuel impinges on a compression wave occuring in the region of the fuel injection. The pressure waves occuring generate, on the one hand, high pressure air in the zones (B) and (C), which are fed through a high pressure air port to a combustion chamber for the generation of driving gas for the gas turbine.

  • Patent number: 4720469
Abstract: For the p-type doping of silicon, particularly for power semiconductor components, aluminum from an Al target is precipitated by cathode sputtering in an argon plasma on a major face (2) of a silicon wafer (1) by which means a comparatively high purity of the deposited aluminum is achieved. Before the aluminum deposition, the silicon water (1) is bombarded with argon ions for 10 min at an argon pressure of 20 .mu.bar which guarantees a uniform fusion of the aluminum with the silicon during later heating and, in particular, prevents the formation of droplets of the aluminum on the major face (2). The Al layer formed in this manner is photo-lithographically preferably structured in such a manner that several aluminum sources spaced apart from each other are allocated to one aluminum-doped zone (10). The subsequent diffusion occurs for 300 min at 1250.degree. C. in a gas mixture of nitrogen or argon (1 l/min) and oxygen (20 ml/min). During this process, the aluminum-doped zone (10) is produced.

  • Patent number: 4715041
Abstract: To assure a high degree of operating reliability during operation of pot furnaces, their bath electrode (2, 14, 17, 20) in the pot (1) must be cooled intensively by external cooling. If the pot (1) is in the pot furnace station, cooling of the bath electrode (2, 14, 17, 20) is not a problem. But the case is different when the pot (1) is transported to various stations which can be geographically far apart--e.g., on the one hand, to a melting furnace and, on the other hand, to a continuous casting machine. In the latter case, feed and removal devices for a coolant have been constantly carried with the pot (1). However, this makes a considerable expense necessary. By the dimensioning according to the invention of the bath electrode (1, 14, 17, 20) and/or by attachment of additional cooling bodies (15, 18, 22, 14), the bath electrode (2, 14, 17, 20) can be successfully uncoupled from external cooling (8, 9, 10) over the relatively long handling period that is necessary for operational requirements.

  • Patent number: 4710735
Abstract: Absorption circuits (C.sub.f,L.sub.F) are used for filtering out unwanted harmonic currents in electric lines (R, S, T), particularly for rated power within the range of 1 MVar-1 GVar, for example in the case of high-voltage direct-current transmission systems. So that the absorption circuit holds the virtual capacitance of the filter capacitor circuit (C.sub.f) at its rated value at a tuned frequency even when one or more capacitors (C11, C21, C12, C22) fail, a compensating choke (L) is provided in the cross branch of an "H" circuit of the capacitors. The capacitance of each capacitor (C11 . . . C22) is equal to the total capacitance C of the filter capacitor circuit (C.sub.f). The inductance L of the compensating choke (L) is equal to 1/.omega..sup.2 C, where .omega.=angular frequency of the harmonic. The compensating choke (L) can be designed for 5%-10% of the power of the filter choke (L.sub.F).

  • Patent number: 4705359
Abstract: A process and apparatus for the production of an orientation layer on a plane surface of a plate, and a liquid crystal substrate plate produced thereby. By the process of evaporation from a source, orientation layers are deposited on the plane surfaces of a plurality of liquid crystal substrate plates used for application in liquid crystal displays. To obtain a uniform orientation of the optic axis of the liquid crystal with regard to the azimuthal alignment by means of the preferred direction caused by the orientation layer on the surface, the plates are moved in a direction crosswise to the evaporation direction during the evaporation process. The field of the particle stream emanating from the source is limited by an aperture in an aperture screen which is introduced between the source and the plates. The plates pass completely through the particle stream during the course of the evaporation operation. The finished plates include an approximately 5 nm thick orientation layer.

  • Patent number: 4702553
Abstract: Fiber-optical sensor for detecting electric arc-discharges. An optical waveguide serves to detect electric arc-discharges in an enclosed space, this waveguide being designed, in its detecting or active zone, as a heavily curved spiral. Testing light is fed in at the beginning of the optical waveguide, from a source of testing light. An optical filter, matched to the testing light, is located at the exit from the optical waveguide, this filter directing the light, resulting from a fault, and coming from the arc, up to a first photo-receiver. Sound waves, which are likewise emitted from the arc-discharge, modulate the testing light in the interior ofthe spiral. The modulated testing light passes to a second photoreceiver. The changes in the luminous intensity at the two photoreceivers are recorded in an electronic evaluator, and the time-difference is determined.
