Patent number: 4667262Abstract: In the invention, a ground current, impressed, in the case of a ground fault, by an offset-voltage source connected into an earth line and capacitively coupled to the rotor winding, is detected both in the ground line and in the exciter circuit via at least one current transformer which is preferably constructed as a ring-core transformer. By suitable summing of the ground current flowing in the ground line with that flowing in the exciter circuit, an indication is achieved which is selective with respect to the location of the ground fault in the exciter circuit.Type: GrantFiled: June 12, 1984Date of Patent: May 19, 1987Assignee: BBC Brown, Boveri & Company, LimitedInventor: Franz Maier

Patent number: 4665288Abstract: A compressed gas switch, preferably provided for switching medium voltages, has a casing filled with insulating gas. Two contacts are located relative to one another along an axis in this casing, which contacts, in the switched-on position, have their free ends led into a hot volume. The switch has a small installation length in the direction of the axis defining the movement of the contacts and simultaneously exhibits small contact consumption. This is achieved by the switch having current supply links led out of the casing transverse to the axis of movement of the contacts, each of which current supply links forming at least one offset in the casing. These offsets are located in a common plane and are designed in such a way that the current to be switched off flows through them in opposite directions.Type: GrantFiled: August 15, 1985Date of Patent: May 12, 1987Assignee: BBC Brown, Boveri & Company, LimitedInventor: Jurg Ischi

Patent number: 4663553Abstract: A stator laminated core (1) of a horizontal-axis electrical machine is supported by means of at least two parallel bearing plates (3), perpendicular to the axis of the electrical machine and at a distance from each other. In order to minimize vibrations and thermal stresses occurring during the operating state of the electrical machine, the bearing plates (3) are of annular design and are connected to the bottom casing section (8) only in two regions of their horizontal plane of symmetry, on either side, via vertical linear extensions (4) by means of attachment parts (5). By far the greatest part of the circumference of the bearing plates (3) is at a distance from the bottom casing section (8) and the top casing section (9). The stator laminated core (1) is braced in the bearing plates (3) by means of attachment wedges (6) evenly distributed around its entire circumference. The attachment parts (5) include attachment plates (15) which are each welded to the extensions (4) of the bearing plates ( 3).Type: GrantFiled: June 4, 1985Date of Patent: May 5, 1987Assignee: BBC Brown, Boveri & Company, LimitedInventor: Hans Zimmermann

Patent number: 4663691Abstract: A safety mechanism is described which is used in an electrical distributing system with a bus-bar and of branches emanating from the bus-bar and has safety relays which turn off the malfunctioning part of the system in case of error. In this safety mechanism, redundancy is increased with respect to a malfunctioning of any one of the relays while the number of safety relays remains the same. This is achieved by the fact that each of the safety relays responds to a measurement of currents and voltages of two branches and acts upon both branches via the switches separating them from the mains.Type: GrantFiled: July 30, 1985Date of Patent: May 5, 1987Assignee: BBC Brown, Boveri & Company, LimitedInventor: Georg Koppl

Patent number: 4661763Abstract: Phase shifters are used in meshed, multi-phase power supply systems for improving their transmission stability and for load-flow regulating purposes. In order to be able to use a less costly exciter transformer of lower rating or the tertiary or compensation winding of a system coupling transformer for generating intermediate-circuit voltages as a function of system input voltages, a resonant circuit is provided between the exciter transformer and an auxiliary transformer. In this resonant circuit consisting of series-connected capacitors and inductive resistances which are connected to taps between these capacitors and can be switched in and out by means of alternating-current switches, tap voltages are generated which are supplied to the primary windings of the auxiliary transformer. At the secondary windings, connected in series with phase conductors of the auxiliary transformer, auxiliary voltages occur which are superimposed on the system input voltages and effect the desired phase shifts.Type: GrantFiled: February 6, 1985Date of Patent: April 28, 1987Assignee: BBC Brown, Boveri & Company, LimitedInventors: Niyazi Ari, Gerhard Linhofer

Patent number: 4659348Abstract: The exhaust gas particle filter has a parabola shaped recess in the core ensuring that the inlet flow of the exhaust gases is directed towards the central filter part. The latter has a lower degree of separation relative to the outer filter part--caused by increased filter porosity and smaller mass--so that the exhaust gases flow through the central filter part in the initial phase. Its larger filter porosity and the small mass cause the temperature reduction of the exhaust gas flowing through to remain small so that a downstream supercharger can respond rapidly. Since the separation of soot particles initially occurs primarily in the central filter part, rapid deposition occurs--despite its low degree of separation--so that the resistance during the operation following the acceleration phase becomes similar to that of the surrounding outer filter part. The latter then offers the capacity of separating soot particles over a longer period without regeneration.Type: GrantFiled: November 20, 1985Date of Patent: April 21, 1987Assignee: BBC Brown, Boveri & Company, LimitedInventor: Andreas Mayer

Patent number: 4650396Abstract: A vane carrier (1) is axially located in an upper casing part (2) by means of a wedge (3). On the one hand, axial location, attainable by simple means, of the vane carrier (1) is desirable after the assembly of the upper casing parts (2). On the other hand, there is a requirement for easy release of the upper casing part (2) during the dismantling of the latter. During the assembly of the upper casing part (2), the wedge (3) is pulled tight against the vane carrier (1) by means of a screw (8). The vane carrier (1) is axially located in the upper casing part (2) by contact of the wedge contact surfaces (3', 3") with the surface (5) of the vane carrier (1) and with the surface (2") of the upper casing part (2). During dismantling of the upper casing part (2), the screw (8), and therefore the wedge (3), is loosened.Type: GrantFiled: October 9, 1984Date of Patent: March 17, 1987Assignee: BBC Brown, Boveri & Company, LimitedInventor: Hans Schwarz

Patent number: 4647837Abstract: A reactive-power compensator for compensating a reactive current component in an alternating-voltage system, including a reactive-current converter formed by forced-commutation current converter rectifiers arranged in a current converter bridge circuit, and a smoothing choke used as a termination at the direct-current side of the bridge circuit. The compensator attains constant compensation of both inductive and capactive reactive-current components with clearly reduced system reaction by driving the rectifiers such that the bridge circuit accepts at its input a compensation current in the form of approximately rectangular current pulses having a pulse frequency greater than that of the alternating voltage system. The polarity and width of these current pulses are modulated in accordance with a sine function so that the compensation current is identical in frequency and amplitude with respect to the reactive current component at the system voltage input, but shifted in phase by 180.degree..Type: GrantFiled: October 2, 1984Date of Patent: March 3, 1987Assignee: BBC Brown, Boveri & Company, LimitedInventor: Herbert Stemmler
