  • Patent number: 11940456
Abstract: An automated apparatus can provide pre-analytical processing of samples, racking and forwarding to an adjacent analyzer for analysis. The apparatus may have a controller that implements an auto-learn process to teach robotic handlers the locations within the workspace(s) of the apparatus. A robotic sample handler may include a sensor configured to generate a detection signal when in a near vicinity of a fiducial beacon in the workspace of the apparatus for biological sample preparation, preprocessing and/or diagnostic assay performed by one or more analyzers of the automated apparatus. The controller may control the robotic sample handler to conduct a search pattern so that a location of the fiducial beacon may be detected and thereafter calculated to obtain a more accurate location of the beacon. The calculated positions may then serve as a basis for the controlled movement of samples by the robot to and from locations of the workspace.

  • Patent number: 11940369
Abstract: Aspects of the disclosure include a system for performing cytometry that can be operated in three operational modes. In one operational mode, a fluorescence image of a sample is obtained by exciting one or more fluorophore(s) with a top-hat-shaped excitation beam with a plurality of beams that are radiofrequency shifted relative to one another. In another operational mode, a sample can be illuminated successively over a time interval by a laser beam at a plurality of excitation frequencies in a scanning fashion to generate an image of the sample from the detected fluorescence. In another operational mode, the system can be operated to illuminate a plurality of locations of a sample concurrently by a single excitation frequency (e.g., a horizontal extent), which is generated, e.g., by shifting the central frequency of a laser beam by a radiofrequency and detected fluorescence is used to analyze the sample.

  • Patent number: 11935638
Abstract: Devices, systems and methods are provided to securely and wirelessly connect a medical device to a controller or smartphone with medical device control app, and to wirelessly connect the controller or smartphone with medical device control app to other devices providing additional integrated disease management (IDM) functions. At least two different wireless communication protocols are used depending on level of security needed, with greater security needed for exchange of medical device control operation commands and related data between the medical device and its controller or smartphone with medical device control app to avoid nefarious or unintended changes in medical device control. Exchanges of historical data or notifications relating to the medical device and requiring less security can be transmitted to the controller and/or the smartphone or other IDM devices using a different and more commonly used wireless communication protocol that may afford less security.

  • Patent number: 11931483
Abstract: Inserts can be formed with elution characteristics to cause the inserts to elute an antimicrobial agent when subject to a fluid within a medical device. An insert can be formed with a desired geometry to allow the insert to be compression fit within a medical device to prevent the insert from moving or becoming dislodged once inserted into the medical device. The material may also be hygroscopic so that the insert swells when subject to a fluid thereby enhancing the compression fit of the device within the medical device. In some cases, the material can be reinforced using an internal structure. Inserts can be formed in many ways including by casting, thermoforming, or extrusion. In some cases, the inserts can be formed using a peel-away sleeve or material. The peel-away sleeves can be formed of a non-sticky material which facilitates removal of the inserts once the inserts have cured.
