    Abstract: An electric machine having a field coil and a rotatable armature coil. A rotatable commutator is conductively coupled with the armature coil and has a plurality of contacts. A plurality of brushes are conductively engageable with the plurality of contacts wherein rotation of commutator about the rotational axis causes the plurality of contacts to sequentially engage the plurality of brushes as the plurality of contacts rotate about the rotational axis. The plurality of brushes includes at least one positive brush and at least one negative brush, the at least one positive brush being a multi-layer brush and the negative brush being a single layer block brush. The multi-layer brush may include a high-copper layer and a low-copper layer with the low-copper layer forming the trailing edge of the brush. The single layer brush may have a copper content greater than the high-copper layer of the multi-layer brush.

A bushing is disposed in the bearing housing interior, extends between first and second bushing ends, is coupled to the shaft, and includes a first anti-rotation component. A retention shoulder extends away from the interior surface and radially inward proximate to one of the first and second bushing ends, and presents an inner surface having a second diameter less than the first diameter to limit axial movement of the bushing. The retention shoulder includes a second anti-rotation component engagable with the first anti-rotation component to limit rotational movement between the bushing and the bearing housing.

    Abstract: A linkage extends between an actuator and a valve in a turbocharger. The linkage comprises two spaced member bodies having central portions with opposing curved shapes that extend between ends translatable along and rotatable about spaced pivots. Translation of one member toward the other member compresses the central portions, increasing overall stiffness of the linkage, and translation of one member away from the other member creates a gap between the central portions, allowing independent translation of the ends along the spaced pivots to compensate for misalignment between the actuator and the valve caused by heat and vibration. Another linkage extending between an actuator and a valve in a turbocharger includes two planar spaced member bodies extending between ends translatable along and rotatable about spaced pivots. The two member bodies have different thicknesses.
