  • Patent number: 9683637
Abstract: A tensioner for tensioning a chain span which uses two pistons. The movement of the two pistons may be coupled together. The first piston provides damping to the chain span and a second piston provides variable, dominant and automatically adjusting spring force to the chain span. The tensioner automatically adjusts the mean tension force to keep the chain tension as low as possible without sacrificing chain control, significantly improving drive efficiency at new chain conditions and conditions with dynamic loads.

  • Patent number: 9664254
Abstract: A split ring planetary drive of an electric phaser includes at least one planet gear adjuster and at least one load generator. The load generator biases the planet gear adjuster, such that at a low rotational speed, the planet gear adjuster applies a force on the planet gear to take up the backlash between the planet gear and the ring gears. As the rotational speed increases, the inertia of a mass of the planet gear adjuster generates an increasing force opposing the force of the load generator, causing the planet gear adjuster to move at least one planet gear to a position where the at least one planet gear no longer takes up the backlash. In some embodiments, the planet gear adjuster includes an eccentric pin and an extension arm. In other embodiments, the planet gear adjuster includes a pivot support for a pair of inner and outer planet gears.

  • Patent number: 9657837
Abstract: The present invention is directed toward a shift actuator assembly that includes a housing having a retaining mechanism. A holding pawl is biased into engagement with the retaining mechanism. A solenoid releasably engages the pawl when the shift shaft is disposed in its first position such that once the solenoid disengages the pawl, the cam surfaces on the retaining mechanism cooperate with the holding surfaces on the pawl to drive the pawl out of engagement with the retaining mechanism thereby releasing the biasing force of the biasing mechanism to drive the housing and the shift fork axially on the shift shaft between engaged and disengaged positions with respect to the associated gear set.
