Publication number: 20130082738Abstract: Methods, systems, and computer program products are provided to implement clock gating with double data rate (“DDR”) logic. In traditional single data rate (“SDR”) clock gating, disabling the clock holds the clock logic level to a predefined value, potentially causing a logic transition that would be erroneously interpreted as a normal clock transition by DDR logic. Similar techniques can also be utilized to convert a SDR clock to a half-frequency DDR clock for use with DDR logic, realizing the energy efficiencies of DDR clocking.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 30, 2011Publication date: April 4, 2013Applicant: Broadcom CorporationInventor: Anatoly Gelman

Publication number: 20130083828Abstract: Aspects of a method and system for communicating via a spatial multilink repeater are provided. In this regard, a received signal may be frequency shifted to generate a plurality of repeated signals, wherein each repeated signal may be shifted by a different frequency with respect to the received signal. Each repeated signal may comprise one or more signal components and a phase and/or amplitude of each of the components may be controlled to control a directivity of the repeated signals. Each of the repeated signals may be generated by quadrature down-converting said received signal by mixing the received signal with a first LO signal pair, up-converting the down-converted signal by mixing it with a second LO signal pair, and adding or subtracting an in-phase portion and a quadrature-phase portion of the up-converted signal.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 29, 2012Publication date: April 4, 2013Applicant: Broadcom CorporationInventor: Broadcom Corporation

Publication number: 20130084801Abstract: To promote ease of use, as well as a reduction in bit error rates during extended data exchange between a coupled NFC tag/reader pair, signal strength is measured from a plurality of NFC tag antennas each positioned differently with respect to a common reader field, and differences in signal strength are used to determine an optimum positioning of the tag, or tag emulator, with respect to the reader. Alternative embodiments may include signal time of flight for determining orientation of the NFC antennas within the reader field. Information is generated by the tag, or tag emulator, and output by the tag, or tag emulator, such that a user may direct the positioning of the tag, or tag emulator, for improved communication with the reader.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 30, 2011Publication date: April 4, 2013Applicant: Broadcom CorporationInventors: Philip Stewart ROYSTON, David COX

Publication number: 20130083830Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention provide systems for incorporating bonding processors while avoiding bonding processor buffer overflow by initiating retransmission requests on all data lines whenever corrupted data is encountered on one data line. Initiating these “extra” retransmission requests equalizes retransmissions delays over all transmission lines, preventing the bonding processor from receiving excess data that cannot be reassembled until the retransmission request is processed.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 30, 2011Publication date: April 4, 2013Applicant: Broadcom CorporationInventor: Mike LOCKE

Publication number: 20130084816Abstract: Embodiments provide transmitter topologies that improve the power efficiency and bandwidth of RF transmitters for high transmission power applications. In an embodiment, the common-emitter/source PA of conventional topologies is replaced with a current-input common-base/gate PA, which is stacked on top on an open-collector/drain current-output transmitter. The common-base/gate PA protects the output of the transmitter from large output voltage swings. The low input impedance of the common-base/gate PA makes the PA less susceptible to frequency roll-off, even in the presence of large parasitic capacitance produced by the transmitter. At the same time, the low input impedance of the common-base/gate PA reduces the voltage swing at the transmitter output and prevents the transmitter output from being compressed or modulated. In an embodiment, the DC output current of the transmitter is reused to bias the PA, which results in power savings compared to conventional transmitter topologies.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 30, 2011Publication date: April 4, 2013Applicant: Broadcom CorporationInventors: Ray (Ramon) Gomez, Leonard Dauphinee, Massimo Brandolini, Jianhong Xiao, Dongsoo Koh, Young Shin, Chonghua Zhong, Rezaur Rahman Khan

Publication number: 20130086074Abstract: A hash table supports extended entries. The extended entries permit a base entry to extend its associated data into one or more neighboring entries. Extended entries thereby provide a mechanism through which a hash table entry may store additional data compared to a base entry. Extended entries may coexist with base entries in the hash table. The hash table thereby provides the flexibility to adapt dynamically to meet system requirements and to balance the needs of additional data storage by blending the number of extended entries (that each store more data than a base entry) and the number of base entries (each storing less data than an extended entry).Type: ApplicationFiled: September 30, 2011Publication date: April 4, 2013Applicant: Broadcom CorporationInventors: Brandon C. Publication number: 20130085703Abstract: Embodiments provide histogram-based methods and system to estimate the transfer function of an ADC, and subsequently to linearize a non-linear ADC transfer function. Embodiments include blind algorithms that require no a priori knowledge of the input signal distribution. Embodiments can be implemented using cumulative (i.e., cumulative distribution function (CDF)) or non-cumulative (i.e., probability density function (PDF)) histograms. According to embodiments, a non-linear transfer function can be estimated by linearly approximating successive local intervals of the transfer function. Linearly approximated successive local intervals of the transfer function can then be used to fully characterize and closely estimate the transfer function.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 30, 2011Publication date: April 4, 2013Applicant: Broadcom CorporationInventors: Ray (Ramon) GOMEZ, Bruce J. Patent number: 8411775Abstract: Demodulation and/or demapping of a signal (e.g., based on a constellation whose points have a corresponding mapping with associated labels) is performed such that each dimension is processed separately without accounting for influences from the other dimension. For example, the demapping process operates on each respective dimension separately and independently. In some instances, the processing operates iteratively, in that, information identified from processing one of the dimensions is employed in directing the processing in another of the dimensions. Such operation may be performed iteratively by updating/modified information associated with one or more of the dimensions as well. Moreover, decoding may operate in accordance with iterative demapping (e.g., error correction code (ECC) and/or forward error correction (FEC) code by which information bits are encoded) to make estimates of bits within a signal sequence, and those estimates may be used in a subsequent iteration of demapping.Type: GrantFiled: June 30, 2011Date of Patent: April 2, 2013Assignee: Broadcom CorporationInventor: Kelly Brian Cameron
