  • Patent number: 8407555
Abstract: LDPC codes robust to non-stationary narrowband ingress noise. Particularly designed LDPC codes are adapted to address deleterious noise-effects incurred within LDPC coded signals that propagate via a communication channel (such as from a transmitting communication device to a receiving communication device). Such LDPC matrices employed for encoding and/or decoding such LDPC coded signals are composed of sub-matrices (e.g., all-zero values sub-matrices and/or CSI (Cyclic Shifted Identity) sub-matrices). The sub-matrices are generally uniform in size and square in shape. Based on certain operational conditions, such as communication channel noise, various operations within a communication device are adaptively modified (e.g., signaling, modulation, demodulation, symbol mapping, metric generation, decoding, etc.).

  • Patent number: 8405779
Abstract: A video decoder block provides a common pathway for processing video signals encoded using different video formats. The video decoder block passes the video signals through the same processing components in order convert the signals to a common format for display or storage. Each processing component can be disabled or by-passed to enable or disable the function performed by the component. This reduces the number of components and signal processors required in devices that need to accommodate signals of different formats.

  • Patent number: 8406340
Abstract: Distortion and aliasing reduction for digital to analog conversion. Synthesis of one or more distortion terms made based on a digital signal (e.g., one or more digital codewords) is performed in accordance with digital to analog conversion. The one or more distortion terms may correspond to aliased higher-order harmonics, distortion, nonlinearities, clipping, etc. Such distortion terms may be known a priori, such as based upon particular characteristics of a given device, operational history, etc. Alternatively, such distortion terms may be determined based upon operation of a device and/or based upon an analog signal generated from the analog to conversion process. For example, frequency selective measurements made based on an analog signal generated from the digital to analog conversion may be used for determination of and/or adaptation of the one or more distortion terms. One or more DACs may be employed within various architectures operative to perform digital to analog conversion.

  • Patent number: 8407561
Abstract: Formulaic flexible collision-free memory accessing for parallel turbo decoding with quadratic polynomial permutation (QPP) interleave. A means is presented by which any desired number of parallel implemented turbo decoding processors can be employed to perform turbo decoding that has been performed using a QPP interleave. This approach is presented to allow an arbitrarily selected number (M) of decoding processors (e.g., a plurality of parallel implemented turbo decoders) to perform decoding of a turbo coded signal while still using a selected embodiment of a QPP interleave. In addition, a collision-free memory mapping, (MOD,C,W) provides more freedom for selecting the particular quadratic polynomial permutation (QPP) interleave (?) that satisfies a parallel turbo decoding implementation with any desired number of parallel implemented turbo decoding processors.

  • Patent number: 8405152
Abstract: An integrated receiver with channel selection and image rejection substantially implemented on a single CMOS integrated circuit is described. A receiver front end provides programmable attenuation and a programmable gain low noise amplifier. Frequency conversion circuitry advantageously uses LC filters integrated onto the substrate in conjunction with image reject mixers to provide sufficient image frequency rejection. Filter tuning and inductor Q compensation over temperature are performed on chip. The filters are tuned using local oscillators to tune a substitute filter, and frequency scaling during filter component values to those of the filter being tuned. In conjunction with filtering, frequency planning provides additional image rejection. The advantageous choice of local oscillator signal generation methods on chip is by PLL out of band local oscillation and by direct synthesis for in band local oscillator.
