Abstract: An encoder arrangement is provided for streaming media. A variable rate encoder is configured and arranged to receive an input data stream and output an encoded data stream. A buffer is arranged to receive the encoded data stream and output a buffered data stream. A control means monitors depth of the buffer and controls the encoding rate of the variable rate encoder so that encoding is carried out at a rate appropriate to an available link rate, thereby providing smooth transition of data stream quality as link conditions change.

Abstract: Methods and systems for utilizing undersampling for crystal leakage cancellation are disclosed and may include undersampling a composite signal comprising a desired signal and leakage signals due to one or more clock signals. Measured DC signals generated by each of the undersampled signals may be reduced by adjusting the phase and/or amplitude of the clock signals. The undersampling may be performed at one or more of the one or more clock signals, or at integer sub-harmonics of the clock signals. The composite signal may include a signal received by a wireless system or a signal to be transmitted by the wireless system. The undersampled signals may be low-pass filtered. The desired signal may include in-phase and quadrature signals or a polar signal. The undersampling may be performed by one or more sample and hold circuits and the clock signals may be generated utilizing one or more crystal oscillators.

Abstract: Disclosed is a Class-AB/B amplifier comprising a first output stage including a first plurality of amplification devices and a second output stage including a second plurality of amplification devices. According to one embodiment, the first output stage operates when the Class-AB/B amplifier is in a quiescent state and the second output stage operates when the Class-AB/B amplifier is in an active state. The Class-AB/B amplifier also comprises a level shifting circuit that adjusts a control voltage of the second output stage, where the level shifting circuit is adapted to activate the second output stage when the Class-AB/B amplifier enters the active state. Embodiments of the Class-AB/B amplifier may include a level shifting circuit that implements either a fixed or signal-dependent level shift, and a quiescent control circuit that substantially eliminates any systematic offset arising from the active feedback circuit inside the replica bias circuit.

  • Publication number: 20130064065
Abstract: Typical transceivers have multiple near-end and multiple far-end crosstalk cancellation filters. Crosstalk cancellation is one of the largest contributors to power dissipation in the DSP portion of high speed Ethernet transceivers. By detecting the cable type, a transceiver could automatically turn off its crosstalk cancellation filters when driving shielded twisted pair (STP) cables and substantially reduce the overall power dissipation in this configuration. Adaptive digital crosstalk cancellers automatically adjust the coefficients of a digital filter to match the coupling function between two channels. The impulse response of an optimal crosstalk cancellation filter can be used to determine a metric indicating the amount of coupling between the two channels. STP cables will have a much lower amount of coupling between wire-pairs than unshielded twisted pair cables.

  • Publication number: 20130062692
Abstract: According to one embodiment, a half-FinFET semiconductor device comprises a gate structure formed over a semiconductor body. The semiconductor body includes a source region comprised of a plurality of fins extending beyond a first side of the gate structure and a continuous drain region adjacent a second side of the gate structure opposite the plurality of fins. The continuous drain region causes the half-FinFET semiconductor device to have a reduced ON-resistance. A method for fabricating a semiconductor device having a half-FinFET structure comprises designating source and drain regions in a semiconductor body, etching the source region to produce a plurality of source fins while masking the drain region during the etching to provide a continuous drain region, thereby resulting in the half-FinFET structure having a reduced ON-resistance.

  • Patent number: 8395992
Abstract: An Ethernet network may comprise multi-rate link partners coupled via an Ethernet link wherein a pattern, over time, of offered data rates may be determined. Link partners may establish a communication policy for modifying transmission rates to mimic offered data rates and may vary rates accordingly. The communication control policy may be communicated between nodes via one or more of physical layer control characters, an out of band channel and higher layer protocol packets. An established communication policy may improve energy efficiency and may be dynamically modified, for example, based on link utilization. In this regard, data rates may be symmetrical or asymmetrical with respect to direction of transmission. Moreover, data rates may comprise the offered data rate plus additional bandwidth for head room and may comprise one or more of a full rate, an intermediate rate and/or a rate of zero. Rate transitions may be synchronized among network nodes.

  • Patent number: 8396061
Abstract: The present invention enables the coupling and decoupling of multiple processing devices to a network without disrupting the network. In an embodiment, the invention provides a switch having a network port and several initiator ports each configured for coupling to a processing device. The switch is configured to route data from the network port to the initiator ports and from the initiator ports to the network port. A management agent facilitates operation of the switch by processing port initializations, replying to device registration requests, and processing predetermined unsolicited discovery commands. During operation, the management agent enables configuration changes caused, for example, by the coupling and/or decoupling of processing device to initiator ports. Each processing device coupled to one of the initiator ports operates without knowledge of the management agent, as if coupled directly to the network.

  • Patent number: 8395544
Abstract: A GNSS enabled communication device receives GNSS signals from GNSS satellites. The resulting GNSS baseband signals may be concurrently correlated with GNSS acquisition codes. Inter-delay products for the received GNSS signals may be generated utilizing the correlation IQ samples. The inter-delay products are utilized to calculate either an open loop or a close-loop estimate for inter-delay phase coherence of the received GNSS signals. A test statistic, generated from the inter-delay products, may be compared with a preset or dynamically determined threshold value in order to detect or declare signal degradation effects in the received GNSS signals. The early and late delays for the inter-delay phase coherence may be generalized to two or more delays. In this regard, the correlation IQ samples may be utilized to generate a correlation matrix.
