  • Publication number: 20100142553
Abstract: A single carrier cable modem can be initialized on multiple channels. By initializing a cable modem on more than one channel, the error rate performance of short data packets in cable modems in an impulsive noise environment is improved. The advantage of low symbol rate transmission for short packets in an impulse noise environment is achieved without sacrificing burst capacity at a cable modem and without the complexity of transmitting multiple symbol waveforms simultaneously at a cable modem.

  • Publication number: 20100146020
Abstract: A system and method for parallelization of saturated accumulation is provided. In the method, an input sequence is divided into a plurality of subsequences. For each subsequence, three parallel saturating additions are performed. The local saturation minimum is the saturating addition of the global saturation minimum and the values of the subsequence. The local midpoint is the saturating addition of the values of the subsequence and the local saturation maximum is the saturating addition of the global saturation maximum and the values of the subsequence. In embodiments, the accumulation total for a subsequence is calculated as the saturating addition of the accumulation total for prior subsequences and the local midpoint of the current subsequence, wherein the accumulation total of the last subsequence is the result of the saturated accumulation for the sequence. In another embodiment, the saturated addition of subsequence results are further parallelized before the final result is reached.

  • Publication number: 20100146599
Abstract: A network device connected to a network includes a physical port and multiple logical ports configured to provide guest access or authenticated access to the network via the physical port, to a supplicant device. An authorization engine determines whether the supplicant device is authorized to access the network. An authentication engine determines whether the supplicant device is compatible with an authentication protocol associated with the network based on a receipt or a non-receipt of a response from the supplicant device to one or more authentication requests. A guest table stores the source address of the supplicant device if the supplicant device is authorized to access the network and is incompatible with the authentication protocol, wherein the logical ports are configured to provide the guest access to the supplicant device corresponding to the source address stored in the guest table.

  • Patent number: 7734306
Abstract: A system and method for facilitating the authentication of wireless devices in an environment with multiple wireless networks. A user wishing to join an operating wireless network can bring his wireless device within close physical proximity, for example, less than one meter, of a device in the network that he wishes to join. The user then presses an authenticate button, which causes both devices to enter a low transmission power mode. In such case, the devices are only capable of operation within the close proximity. Being in low power mode will diminish the possibility of eavesdropping on the authentication process. Power down mode also reduces the amount of message traffic in the area and saves scarce power and processing resources at the nodes, which are now out of range. Authentication then takes place in low power mode and once completed, both devices resume normal power levels and continue communicating normally.

  • Patent number: 7733912
Abstract: In a wireless communication system, a multi-source data multiplexing system (e.g., a media access control (MAC)) accepts information packets from a plurality of signal sources, evaluates the relative efficiencies of data transmission, and transmits the information packets in provided grant regions for maximum efficiency. The multi-source data multiplexing system may accept any form of information packet from any form of signal source. The system receives a grant region, typically including a transmission time on a data channel, and inserts an information packet into the grant region. The actual information packet placed in the grant region may be one other than the packet for which the grant region was intended. Further, the multi-source data multiplexing system may fragment an information packet and transmit only a portion of the information packet in the grant region.

  • Patent number: 7734788
Abstract: Methods are disclosed for indirectly monitoring and controlling at least one media peripheral device in a media exchange network by accessing a media management system (MMS) via a first media peripheral (MP) device (e.g., a TV screen) using a user control device (e.g., a remote control). An operation corresponding to a second media peripheral (MP) device (e.g., a digital camera) may be selected via the MMS using the first MP device and the user control device. The operation is then carried out (i.e., performed) by the second MP device. A status of the second MP device may be selected via the MMS using the first MP device and the user control device. The selected status is then displayed on the first MP device.

  • Patent number: 7734041
Abstract: A method and apparatus are disclosed for efficiently de-scrambling and bit-order-reversing one or more bytes of data according to DSL standards on a processor. In a preferred embodiment, this is achieved by providing an instruction for de-scrambling and bit-order-reversing one or more bytes of data according to DSL standards. Accordingly, the invention advantageously provides a processor with the ability to de-scramble and bit-order-reverse data with a single instruction thus allowing for more efficient and faster de-scrambling operations for subsequent processing.

  • Patent number: 7734932
Abstract: A system and method for the secure storage of executable code and the secure movement of such code from memory to a processor. The method includes the storage of an encrypted version of the code. The code is then decrypted and decompressed as necessary, before re-encryption in storage. The re-encrypted executable code is then written to external memory. As a cache line of executable code is required, a fetch is performed but intercepted. In the interception, the cache line is decrypted. The plain text cache line is then stored in an instruction cache associated with a processor.
