  • Publication number: 20080222596
Abstract: Provided is a method to design an integrated circuit. The method reduces a time delay between introduction of a new lithography process and a start of production. A first semiconductor mask is designed at a first process feature size. The first process feature size can be based on an anticipated process feature size of the new lithography process. A second semiconductor mask is created by enlarging the first semiconductor mask to a second process feature size for which production is available. Thus, the second process feature size is larger than the first process feature size. An integrated circuit (IC) is fabricated with the second semiconductor mask. After the new semiconductor process has been developed and is available for production, another IC is fabricated with the first semiconductor mask.

  • Patent number: 7423983
Abstract: A signal processing system which discriminates between voice signals and data signals modulated by a voiceband carrier. The signal processing system includes a voice exchange, a data exchange and a call discriminator. The voice exchange is capable of exchanging voice signals between a switched circuit network and a packet based network. The signal processing system also includes a data exchange capable of exchanging data signals modulated by a voiceband carrier on the switched circuit network with unmodulated data signal packets on the packet based network. The data exchange is performed by demodulating data signals from the switched circuit network for transmission on the packet based network, and modulating data signal packets from the packet based network for transmission on the switched circuit network. The call discriminator is used to selectively enable the voice exchange and data exchange.

  • Patent number: 7423699
Abstract: An integrated receiver with channel selection and image rejection substantially implemented on a single CMOS integrated circuit is described. A receiver front end provides programable attenuation and a programable gain low noise amplifier. Frequency conversion circuitry advantageously uses LC filters integrated onto the substrate in conjunction with image reject mixers to provide sufficient image frequency rejection. Filter tuning and inductor Q compensation over temperature are performed on chip. The filters utilize multi track spiral inductors. The filters are tuned using local oscillators to tune a substitute filter, and frequency scaling during filter component values to those of the filter being tuned. In conjunction with filtering, frequency planning provides additional image rejection. The advantageous choice of local oscillator signal generation methods on chip is by PLL out of band local oscillation and by direct synthesis for in band local oscillator.

  • Patent number: 7424267
Abstract: A method, apparatus, and system for automatically sharing data resources between Bluetooth devices. A Bluetooth device is paired with a “trusted” Bluetooth device. When paired devices are found, the Bluetooth device automatically allows the other device to present a virtual representation of data that is shared. The shared data can be selectively downloaded for use by the other device as long as the devices are in proximity. In an alternate embodiment, the devices may share pairing information with a network, so that the same shared resource can be made available at a large number of access points but specifically only for one paired, trusted device.

  • Patent number: 7424417
Abstract: A method and system are disclosed, in a simulation of a design of a digital integrated circuit chip, to limit a number of scan test clocks and chip ports used for testing the chip. Clock domains are identified within the design of the chip that are independent of each other. The independent clock domains are grouped together, within said chip design, to form clock domain groups. A timing analysis is performed on the design of the chip by clocking the clock domain groups each with an independent scan test clock. The scan test clocks originate externally to the design and by-pass, within the chip design, the corresponding internal clocks. Capture mode violations are recorded from the timing analysis and are used to go back and form new clock domain groups, thereby repeating the method until no capture mode violations are generated.

  • Patent number: 7423975
Abstract: A method, apparatus and computer program product is provided for classifying a target data packet entering a network interface. For each of a plurality of received classification parameters, at least one program module is generated. Each program module tests a pre-defined field(s) of the target data packet for adherence to the classification parameter(s) with which the program module is associated. A pre-classification header is generated wherein an indication is made of where one or more pre-defined fields are located in the data packet if the field is present. Maintaining locations of the pre-defined fields of the target data packet in the pre-classification header prevents having to recalculate the addresses of the pre-defined fields of the target data packet. Eliminating the need for re-calculating the addresses of the pre-defined field(s) can allow the classification process of the present invention to obtain an optimal execution speed.

  • Publication number: 20080215652
Abstract: A device of dynamic communication of information allows, on the average, non-integer bits per symbol transmission, using a compact code set or a partial response decoding receiver. A stream of selectable predetermined integer bits, e.g., k or k+1 data bits, is grouped into a selectable integer number of bit vectors which then are mapped onto corresponding signal constellations forming transmission symbols. Two or more symbols can be grouped and further encoded, so that a symbol is spread across the two or more symbols being communicated. Sequence estimation using, for example, maximum likelihood techniques, as informed by noise estimates relative to the received signal. Each branch metric in computing the path metric of a considered sequence at the receiver is weighted by the inverse of the noise power. It is desirable that the constellation selection, sequence estimation and noise estimation be performed continuously and dynamically.

  • Publication number: 20080215890
Abstract: Systems and methods for secure remote biometric authentication are provided. A network-based biometric authentication platform stores biometric templates for individuals which have been securely enrolled with the authentication platform. A plurality of sensor platforms separately establishes secure communications with the biometric authentication platform. The sensor platform can perform a biometric scan of an individual and generate a biometric authentication template. The sensor platform then requests biometric authentication of the individual by the biometric authentication platform via the established secure communications. The biometric authentication platform compares the generated biometric template to one or more of the enrolled biometric templates stored in memory at the biometric authentication platform. The result of the authentication is then communicated to the requesting sensor platform via the established secure communications.

  • Publication number: 20080212665
Abstract: A system is presented that monitors the quality of a communications channel with mirror receivers. A first receiver and a second receiver, coupled in parallel with the first receiver, receive a data signal transmitted over the communications channel. The second receiver generates an output signal. A signal integrity (SI) processor manipulates the output signal in order to determine the quality of the communications channel. The SI processor samples a phase-shifted version of the output signal, which has a phase shifted relative to a zero reference phase, and analyzes the phase-shifted version of the output signal for bit errors. In an embodiment, the SI processor manipulates the output signal to extract an eye diagram indicative of the quality of the communications channel. The SI processor non-intrusively determines the quality of the communications channel using the second receiver.
