  • Patent number: 7420921
Abstract: Aggregated fragment acknowledgement in a LAN. A transmitter sends a data packet to a receiver. The receiver then constructs an AFAF and sends that AFAF back to a transmitter. The transmitter is then able to determine the success and/or failure, in full or in part, of the transmission of the data packet to the receiver. A very precise granularity, or resolution, of the success of the transmission may be achieved on a per fragment basis. Bandwidth savings may also be achieved. When no resolution on a fragment basis is required, then that level of resolution is not employed. The resolution of the fragment basis may be adaptively employed when required to notify the transmitter of the status of one or more fragments within a data packet.

  • Patent number: 7420560
Abstract: A method of presenting a selected portion of graphical images within a wireless terminal that includes receiving an original graphical image, having a source resolution, to be presented on a display screen. The native pixel resolution of the display screen may differ from that of the original graphical image. A complex decimation pattern when applied to the selected portion of the image allows the selected portion of the original graphical image to be resized from the source resolution to a decimated resolution operable to be displayed within the native resolution of the display screen. Decimated pixels need not be further processed to reduce the processing requirements imposed on the system processor. Operations normally associated with the decimated portions of the image may be offloaded from the processing module to improve system efficiency.

  • Patent number: 7421259
Abstract: An RF mixer includes a plurality of submixers coupled to a single input transistor pair and a single tail current source. An input LO signal is divided into multiple individual waveforms, each having a different phase. The phase differences are even in that the phase difference between any two time-adjacent individual waveforms is approximately equal to the phase difference between any other two time-adjacent individual waveforms. The submixers are appropriately scaled so that the individual waveforms, when summed, create a piecewise linear LO signal. The submixers also combine the individual waveforms with an input baseband signal to produce an output signal or to produce a baseband signal from an input mixed signal. In order to reduce noise in the system, only one submixer is active at any time. Further, polarities of some individual waveforms are reversed so that to avoid signal cancellation when by combining waveforms of opposite polarities.

  • Patent number: 7421254
Abstract: A communications transceiver includes a baseband processor, a receiver section, and a transmitter section that includes a power amplifier. The receiver and transmitter sections communicatively couple to the baseband processor. In a calibration operation, the baseband processor produces a test signal to the transmitter section. Further, the baseband processor causes each of a plurality of power amplifier bias settings to be applied to the power amplifier. For each of the plurality of power amplifier bias settings, the power amplifier produces an amplified test signal, the receiver section couples back a portion of the amplified test signal to the baseband processor, and the baseband processor produces a characterization of the amplified test signal respective. Based upon a plurality of characterizations of the amplified test signal and respective power amplifier bias settings, the baseband processor determines power amplifier bias control settings.

  • Patent number: 7420497
Abstract: A quantizer is described for use in a flash analog to digital converter (ADC), which may be implemented as part of an integrated wireless transceiver or other highly integrated electrical circuit. The quantizer may be configured to operate within such a flash ADC in an accurate manner within a desired voltage range, while minimizing factors that may otherwise lead to errors in the analog-to-digital conversion process. For example, a comparator of the quantizer may be used that has properties that are particularly well-suited for such an environment, where such properties may include, for example, a relatively low input referred offset voltage that is associated with a preamplifier of the comparator.

  • Patent number: 7421034
Abstract: A method for parallel concatenated (Turbo) encoding and decoding. Turbo encoders receive a sequence of input data tuples and encode them. The input sequence may correspond to a sequence of an original data source, or to an already coded data sequence such as provided by a Reed-Soloman encoder. A turbo encoder generally comprises two or more encoders separated by one or more interleavers. The input data tuples may be interleaved using a modulo scheme in which the interleaving is according to some method (such as block or random interleaving) with the added stipulation that the input tuples may be interleaved only to interleaved positions having the same modulo-N (where N is an integer) as they have in the input data sequence. If all the input tuples are encoded by all encoders then output tuples can be chosen sequentially from the encoders and no tuples will be missed.

  • Patent number: 7421260
Abstract: In RF transceivers, a method and system for a second order input intercept point (IIP2) correction are provided. A DC offset sensor may detect DC offset voltages produced by blocker signals in ā€œIā€ and ā€œQā€ signal component paths in an RF receiver. The DC offset sensor may generate control signals which may be utilized by a first and second injection circuits to generate DC offset currents that compensate for the DC offset voltages in the signal component paths. An injection circuit may utilize current drivers to generate binary weighted currents which may be added together to produce a DC offset current. The polarity of the DC offset current and the selection of which current drivers to use may be determined by the control signals. A calibration voltage may also be utilized to correct or adjust the gain in the injection circuit.

Abstract: A communications system, having a combination Reed-Solomon encoder and a Turbo-Code encoder Data frame configuration which may be changed to accommodate embedded submarkers of known value are embedded in with the data order to aid synchronization in the receiver system, by providing strings of known symbols. The string of known symbols may be the same as the symbols within a training header that appears at the beginning of a data frame. Frame parameters may be tailored to individual users and may be controlled by information pertaining to receivers, such as bit error rate, of the receiver. Additional headers may be interspersed within the data in order to assist in receiver synchronization. • Patent number: 7420986
Abstract: The present invention is directed toward a method and apparatus for detecting collisions on a shared access network. In accordance with the present invention, two or more RF modulated signals having a plurality of different phase states are transmitted to a central controller, wherein two or more of the transmitted signals collide at the central controller. The collision detection system then determines a characteristic of the collision signal, such as the absolute value of the peak amplitude of the collision signal. The collision detection system then compares the characteristic with a plurality of thresholds and determines the number of RF modulated signals that collided as a function of the comparison. The method for detecting collisions may further include monitoring a plurality of collision events to determine a characteristic, such as the absolute value of the peak amplitude of the collision signal, of each of the collision events.
