  • Patent number: 9439219
Abstract: A multi-user super-frame (MU-SF), as controlled by a MU-SF owner, is used to govern the manner by which various wireless communication devices have access to the communication medium. When various wireless communication devices operate within a wireless communication system, communication medium access can be handled differently for wireless communication devices having different capabilities. Per the MU-SF, those having a first capability may get medium access in accordance with a first operational mode (e.g., carrier sense multiple access/collision avoidance (CSMA/CA)), while those having a second capability may get medium access in accordance with a second operational mode (e.g., scheduled access). The respective durations for each of the first operational mode and the second operational mode within various MU-SFs need not be the same; the respective durations thereof may be adaptively modified based on any number considerations.

  • Patent number: 9438724
Abstract: Aspects of notification and troubleshooting of interruptions, failures, and updates are described. In one embodiment, a customer premises equipment (CPE) device determines a status of the CPE device, which may include a status of connectivity with a service provider. When the status indicates an error, a type of the error may be identified and a message selected for audible playback by the CPE device. The CPE device may further ring a telephonic device, to alert a user and playback the message to the user. The message may indicate that a connectivity error exists and, in some cases, assist the user to troubleshoot the error. In other aspects, the CPE device may receive an update from the service provider and ring the telephonic device, to advise the user of upgraded functions or features, for example, or provide a promotional message.

  • Patent number: 9438951
Abstract: A system and method that provide reduced latency in a video signal processing system. Various aspects of the present invention may comprise receiving a current request from a user for first video information. Such a request may, for example, be received with a user interface module. A first video stream and a second video stream may be received simultaneously, where the first video stream comprises the first video information currently requested by the user, and the second video stream comprises second video information not currently requested by the user. A video receiver module may, for example, perform such receiving. The first video stream may be processed to present the first video information to the user at the current time. Further, the second video stream may be pre-processed in preparation for being presented to the user in the future. A video processing module may, for example, perform such video stream processing.

  • Patent number: 9438430
Abstract: Systems and methods of measuring current in a power over Ethernet (PoE) system are provided. The PoE system includes an integrated circuit component having a controller, an internal transistor, a replica transistor, and an external transistor. Current in the system can be indirectly measured by enabling and disabling the transistors in known ways and then measuring the current through the replica transistor. The actual current in the system can be calculated based on the measured currents, thereby allowing for a PoE system that is capable of measuring current without a resistor in series with the external transistor.

  • Patent number: 9438535
Abstract: Methods and systems for a plurality of physical layers for network connection may include coupling a MAC to one of a plurality of PHYs. The coupling to a specific PHY may be based on auto-detection of network activity, or network devices, via the PHYs. Also, one of the PHYs may be coupled to the MAC as a power-up default. The PHYs may be coupled to a same network, by, for example, cables. A first cable to a first PHY may couple it to a first network switch and a second cable to a second PHY may couple it to a second network switch. The first network switch may be rated to handle, for example, a greater data rate than the second network switch. The first cable may not be able to be used as a cable for the second PHY, and vice versa.

  • Patent number: 9439088
Abstract: A user equipment (UE) is configured with a first configuration for reporting measurement feedback information according to a first reporting cycle using a first set of parameters, and a second configuration for reporting measurement feedback information according to a second reporting cycle using a second set of parameters. The UE switches between the first cycle and the second cycle for reporting for example CQI based on for example comparing a data or a channel measurement against a predefined threshold. In various embodiments the second configuration is fixed, or results in no CQI reporting, or is variable based on a previous cycle or CQI level, or is event-based. In another embodiment, the network commands the UE to switch. The end result is that control signalling overhead can be reduced when appropriate by reducing the number of CQI reports that are sent uplink.

  • Publication number: 20160254820
Abstract: A semiconductor device fabrication operation is commonly used to manufacture one or more integrated circuits onto a semiconductor substrate. The semiconductor device fabrication operation forms one or more transistors onto an arrangement of fabrication layers to form the one or more integrated circuits which introduces unwanted capacitances, often referred to as parasitic capacitances, into the one or more transistors. The one or more integrated circuits include one or more compensation modules that, when combined with the parasitic capacitances of the one or more transistors, ideally linearizes the non-linearity caused by the parasitic capacitances of the one or more transistors. For example, the one or more compensation modules incorporate a non-linear or a piecewise linear transfer function that is inversely related to the parasitic capacitances of the one or more transistors.

  • Patent number: 9432052
Abstract: A communication device or device includes a processor that generates and interprets signals that are transmitted and received via a communication interface. The processor receives an LDPC coded signal, via the communication interface, that is generated by puncturing at least one parity bit from another LDPC coded signal that is generated based on an LDPC code characterized by a first LDPC matrix. The processor operates on the first LDPC matrix to generate a second LDPC matrix by excluding at least one column and at least one row from the first LDPC matrix. The number of columns and rows excluded from the first LDPC matrix is based on the number of bits punctured from the other LDPC coded signal to generate the LDPC coded signal. The processor then decodes the LDPC coded signal using the second LDPC matrix to make estimates of information bits encoded within the LDPC coded signal.

  • Patent number: 9432919
Abstract: Certain aspects of a method and system for a fast cell search using a primary synchronization channel (PSYNC) process in a multimode wideband code division multiple access (WCDMA) terminal are provided. A WCDMA frequency search or a global system for mobile communications (GSM) frequency search is performed based on a current radio access technology (RAT), received signal strength indication (RSSI) scan measurements, and PSYNC detection operations. The RSSI scan measurements may be averaged by making multiple measurements during a measurement period. At least part of the PSYNC detection operations may be performed during a remaining portion of the measurement period. WCDMA carrier frequencies may be marked in accordance with the results of the PSYNC detection operations. For GSM, some of the frequencies may be removed from the search based on the PSYNC marking while the remaining search frequencies may be ranked based on results from the RSSI scan measurements.

  • Patent number: 9432120
Abstract: Embodiments provide systems and methods for a probabilistic reporting mode, where an Optical Network Unit (ONU) sends a REPORT message only when it has data to transmit. The absence of a REPORT message from an ONU is treated by the Optical Line Terminal (OLT) as indicating absence of data to transmit at the ONU. In another aspect, embodiments include systems and methods for an unsolicited burst mode, where an ONU can be configured to transmit data in the upstream in an unsolicited manner. The unsolicited burst mode includes mechanisms to ensure that no data is lost due to potential collisions between ONUs.

  • Patent number: 9432700
Abstract: Adaptive loop filtering in accordance with video coding. An adaptive loop filter (ALF) and/or other in-loop filters (e.g., sample adaptive offset (SAO) filter, etc.) may be implemented within various video coding architectures (e.g., encoding and/or decoding architectures) to perform both offset and scaling processing, only scaling processing, and/or only offset processing. Operation of such an ALF may be selective in accordance with any of multiple respective operational modes at any given time and may be adaptive based upon various consideration(s) (e.g., desired complexity level, processing type, local and/or remote operational conditions, etc.). For example, an ALF may be applied to a decoded picture before it is stored in a picture buffer (or digital teacher buffer (DPB)). An ALF can provide for coding noise reduction of a decoded picture, and the filtering operations performed thereby may be selective (e.g., on a slice by slice basis, block by block basis, etc.).
