Abstract: A method of communicating data in a Bluetoothâ„¢ low energy (BLE) module is provided. The method includes modulating an outbound communication signal into a modulated signal with a particular modulation scheme based on a modulation type, and transmitting the modulated signal to a remote device via a wireless communication connection associated with the modulation type. The method also includes receiving an inbound radio frequency (RF) signal, determining if the inbound RF signal is associated with a modulation type, and demodulating the inbound RF signal with a particular modulation scheme based on the modulation type if the inbound RF signal is determined to be associated with a modulation type. In some aspects, the inbound RF signal and outbound modulated signal have symbol rates of 2 Megasymbols per second. In some implementations, the method includes switching between a legacy BLE system and an enhanced rate BLE system.

  • Publication number: 20140087657
Abstract: A near field communication (NFC) device is disclosed which includes a NFC core communicatively coupled to an antenna module. The NFC core provides low power communication signals that traverse a sizable distance to an antenna module. The low power communication signals emit substantially less electromagnetic radiation when compared to high power communication signals that conventionally traverse this sizable distance. As a result, unwanted electromagnetic emissions and/or distortion impressed upon signals within other nearby electronic circuits are lessened. After the low power communication signals reach the antenna module, the antenna module converts the low power communication signals into high power communication signals for transmission to another NFC capable device. Additionally, the antenna module converts communications from this NFC capable device that are modulated onto the high power communication signals to provide the low power communication signals for the NFC core.

Abstract: An envelope detector (ED) includes a voltage-mode ED core including parallel detection transistors for detecting a voltage envelope of an RF signal input. The detection transistors are configured with a size and for a current such that the transistors are biased in subthreshold regions of operation. The ED core is configured to variably control a bias current through the detection transistors, where the bias current is varied according to a voltage amplitude of the RF signal input to enhance a linear range of the ED while detection transistors continue to operate in subthreshold regions. A linearizer circuit may be configured to control the bias current based on feedback inputs from ED outputs. Several gain-programmable voltage amplifiers, which may include a final specialized class-AB amplifier, precede the ED core, to adapt a transmitter output voltage to an input range of the ED core, which extends the linear range of the ED.
