  • Publication number: 20120063295
Abstract: Embodiments enable quick PHY re-training when the link is restarted due an event such as EMI, for example. In particular, embodiments recognize that, in the case of such events as EMI, a substantial portion of the training process as prescribed in the standard can be bypassed during the link restart without affecting subsequent link performance. In particular, embodiments recognize that a substantial amount of previously learned link parameters may still be used after link restart, and thus eliminate the need to re-learn them thereby speeding up the link restart process. Further, embodiments recognize that the standard prescribed link start up procedure can be accelerated in the case of link restart by reducing standard prescribed periods for transitioning between states of the link start up process. Additionally, embodiments provide a mechanism that relies on the auxiliary bit (AUX) of LDPC coded user data frames to pre-emptively and dynamically notch out troublesome EMIs before they cause the link to fail.

  • Publication number: 20120063489
Abstract: A system for implementing an orthogonal frequency division multiplexing scheme and providing an improved range extension. The system includes a transmitter for transmitting data to a receiver. The transmitter includes a symbol mapper for generating a symbol for each of a plurality of subcarriers and a spreading module for spreading out the symbol on each of the plurality of subcarriers by using a direct sequence spread spectrum. The symbol on each of the plurality of subcarriers is spread by multiplying the symbol by predefined length sequences. The receiver includes a de-spreader module for de-spreading the symbols on each of the plurality of subcarriers. The de-spreader module includes a simply correlator receiver for obtaining maximum detection. The correlator produces an output sequence of a same length as an input sequence and the de-spreader module uses a point of maximum correlation on the output sequence to obtain a recovered symbol.

  • Publication number: 20120063537
Abstract: Turbo coding having combined turbo de-padding and rate matching de-padding. An approach is presented by which a singular module is operable to perform both zero bit de-padding and dummy bit de-padding in accordance with turbo encoding. Zero padding can be performed on an input information stream before undergoing turbo encoding. One or more of the 3 outputs from the turbo encoding module (e.g., systematic bits, parity 1 bits, and parity 2 bits) may then undergo dummy bit padding as well. Thereafter, these 3 streams (some or all of which may have undergone dummy bit padding) undergo sub-block interleaving. After all of these operations have taken place, a singular combined de-padding module that can be employed to perform de-padding any zero padded bits and any dummy padded bits from each of the three streams that have undergone the sub-block interleaving.

  • Patent number: 8135019
Abstract: A communication system in which multiple protocols and proxy services are executed by an access point. In one embodiment of the invention, GVRP and GMRP registrations are combined in a single packet when a wireless device roams to a different VLAN. In addition, outbound GVRP and GMRP multicast messages are handled by an access point (also referred to as a GVRP and GMRP “gateway”) such that the wireless device is not burdened with the associated computational overhead. In a further embodiment, a wireless device may dynamically switch between a VLAN-aware state and a VLAN-unaware state depending on the nature of a detected access point. For example, if a relevant access point supports GVRP, the wireless device may operate as a VLAN terminal. If a wireless device is not attached to an access point with a matching VLAN ID, the wireless device sends and receives VLAN tagged frames.
