  • Publication number: 20120007756
Abstract: A DSP based SERDES performs compensation operations to support high speed de-serialization. A receiver section of the DSP based SERDES includes one or more ADCs and DSPs. The ADC operates to sample (modulated) analog serial data and to produce digitized serial data (digital representation of the modulated analog serial data). The DSP communicatively couples to the ADC and receives the digitized serial data. Based upon the known characteristics of the digitized serial data and the digitized serial data itself, the DSP determines compensation operations to be performed upon the serial data to compensate for inadequacies of the receiver and/or channel response. These compensation operations may be (1) performed on the analog serial data before digitization by the ADC; (2) applied to the ADC to modify the operation of the ADC; and/or (3) performed on the digitized serial data by the DSP or another device.

  • Patent number: 8094025
Abstract: A receiver architecture for canceling blocking signals in the receive path includes a low noise amplifier for receiving and amplifying an inbound RF signal to produce an amplified inbound signal, in which the inbound RF signal includes a modulated RF signal and a blocking signal, and a cancellation module for substantially canceling the blocking signal from the amplified inbound RF signal and substantially passing the modulated RF signal. The cancellation module cancels the blocking signal by generating an injection signal representative of the blocking signal, combining the blocking signal with the injection signal to produce an error signal, updating the injection signal based on the error signal and using the injection signal to cancel the blocking signal from the amplified inbound RF signal.

  • Patent number: 8094033
Abstract: A process monitor measures the absolute value of unit sample resistors and transistors on a common Integrated Circuit (IC) substrate. This information can be used to adjust the gain of an amplifier assembly to a desired value, or to determine the true, corrected gain of such the amplifier assembly. Also, process information about process variations corresponding to the common IC substrate can be collected from the process monitor. Gain correction factors are derived and applied to the amplifier assembly to compensate for the process variations using the gain value and the process information.

  • Patent number: 8094629
Abstract: The present invention provides a Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) terminal, having a wireless interface that exchanges packetized communications with servicing Access Points (APs). A processing unit communicatively coupled to the wireless interface selects an appropriate programmable COder/DECoder (CODEC) with which to convert incoming packetized communications to incoming user communications, and outgoing user communications to outgoing packetized communications. A user interface coupled to the programmable CODEC receives the incoming user communications and produces the outgoing user communications. The processing unit monitors the serviced packetized communications to determine a communication quality level delivered by the wireless interface. Then the processing unit chooses the selected coding scheme based upon the communication quality level.
