Abstract: A system and method is described that allows a PoE-capable switch to selectively provide power to one or more remote devices in an instance where power being supplied to the switch itself is limited or failing. In one embodiment, the switch receives a notification from an uninterruptable power supply (UPS) and, in response to receiving the notification, selectively provides power to one or more devices powered by the switch. Selectively providing power to one or more of the devices may include providing power to only a subset of the devices, providing a different amount of power to different ones of the devices, or providing power for different durations to different ones of the devices. In an alternate embodiment, in response to receiving the notification, the switch communicates with a remote device and causes the remote device to activate at least one power saving feature.

  • Publication number: 20110121805
Abstract: Embodiments of an active power switch topology for a switching regulator are provided herein. The embodiments of the active power switch topology use two or more active power switches in parallel instead of a single active power switch, as found in conventional implementations. The active power switches are controlled such that they turn-on and -off in a manner that reduces parasitic voltage spikes associated with conventional switching regulators, while not degrading efficiency or other parameters associated with the switching regulator. The active power switch topology can be beneficially used within many switching regulators (e.g., buck, boost, or buck-boost) and, in particular, within hard-switched switching regulators that include active power switches integrated on chip.

  • Patent number: 7949419
Abstract: Methods and systems for processing audio signals are disclosed herein. Aspects of the method may comprise controlling gain during multipath, multi-rate audio processing by generating via a digital gain circuit, a digital signal that is a product of an input digital signal and a gain coefficient derived from a lookup table, and bit-shifted to generate a digital output signal. The gain coefficient may be partitioned into a number of gain blocks. The gain values in each of the gain blocks may be twice a corresponding value in each preceding gain block. The gain blocks may be partitioned into steps that represent particular gain values within a range associated with the gain block. The digital output signal may be ramped utilizing a linear interpolation of the gain coefficients one step apart over a number of samples of the digital input signal, where the number of samples is given as a power of two.

  • Patent number: 7949051
Abstract: A system and method for detecting and reducing mosquito noise are disclosed. Areas within a frame with mosquito noise are detected by calculating the variance of the luminance blocks in a macroblock, determining the minimum variance of the macroblock luminance blocks, and comparing the minimum variance to a mosquito noise threshold. If the minimum variance is greater than the mosquito noise threshold, then the macroblock is considered a high activity macroblock and the corresponding macroblock bit in the frame bitmap is set. If the minimum variance is less than or equal to the mosquito noise threshold, then the macroblock is considered a low activity macroblock, and the corresponding macroblock bit in the frame bit map is cleared. If the current macroblock bit is set in the corresponding frame bitmap or if at least one of its adjacent eight macroblock bits is set in the corresponding frame bitmap, then the current macroblock requires mosquito noise reduction.

  • Patent number: 7948325
Abstract: A gain compensator compensates for the gain variation of a varactor-tuned voltage tuned oscillator (VCO) in a phase lock loop (PLL). The VCO includes a parallel LC circuit having multiple fixed capacitors that can be switched-in or switched-out of the LC circuit according to a capacitor control signal to perform band-select tuning of the VCO. The gain compensator compensates for the variable VCO gain by generating a charge pump reference current that is based on the same capacitor control signal that controls the fixed capacitors in the LC circuit. The gain compensator generates the charge pump reference current by replicating a reference scale current using unit current sources. The number of times the reference scale current is replicated is based on the fixed capacitance that is switched-in to the LC circuit and therefore the frequency band of the PLL.
